Billy will never leave my world....he is embedded in my consciousness. I first saw him with The HUMBLEBUMS in concert with Peter Sarstedt. I worked across the U.K. and Europe as Billy Connolly's tribute act. I have met him twice and he has actually been supportive of what I do. There are many parallels in my life and Billy's. We both love the same ridiculous comedy heroes among many other things. Just shut yer eyes and listen....he's inside yer heed! X
My mom was terminally ill and not really responding to much at the end. One afternoon I turned on the tv and Billy was on a comedy show doing his routine. By the end of his act, I was laughing so hard I couldn't catch my breath and my mom was grinning ear to ear with tears in her eyes. Every time I see this man's face I remember that moment and smile. His gift is priceless! ❤❤❤Love him!
I truly adore this man. He is totally himself, doesn't bullshit and is so gifted with natural wit about the most mundane things that everyone can relate to. His Parkinson's diagnosis is so unfair and devastating. Long may he remain in our lives.
Sir Billy Connolly, the man that carries the laughter of a nation in his heart. And a nation that carries Sir Billy Connolly in theirs! He’s a national treasure more valuable than any other. A loveable living legend!
My Scottish wife was born, raised, and educated in Glasgow. She introduced me to Billy Conolly’s comedy a long time ago. Many of his early performances were only understandable to those who speak whatever language it is that the Scots speak; but even without understanding most of what he said, I could tell I was missing some really funny stuff. Now I watch and listen to everything available on RUclips, and read about his life, and his adventures. He is truly a man to be admired in so many ways.
I met Sir Billy once. I was a security guard and he was doing a corporate party. I was to go get him from his hotel room and walk with him to the backstage area. I found his room and we started back, we got on the elevator and there was a woman in there who was obviously really rich and snooty. We were standing behind her and Sir Billy started making faces at her. I was choking trying not to laugh and she was giving me dirty looks. The elevator stopped and she started to walk off and Sir Billy faked a huge sneeze. "ka-CHOOO!" with the "chooo" practically screamed out loud. The lady left the ground in fright and screamed very loudly. She turned to glare at us and Sir Billy, with perfect timing as the doors slid shut, looked at me and said quietly "Bless you, Laddie". We were both paralytic with laughter for the next few minutes, the elevator stopped and people were staring at us as we were unable to walk out of the thing and were holding on to each other crying laughing.
One of my brother's former high school teachers was - and perhaps still is - quite friendly with certain prominent figures inside a large football club somewhere in Scotland. My brother's former teacher said that he happened to be present within the confines of the club's stadium one day, when Billy came to pay a visit. As one might expect, he arrived wearing what Bily Connolly would typically wear, with full beard, and long hair to boot. Horrified at this spectacle, one of the senior figures at the club rushed over to Billy and whispered in his ear that "there are very strict rules on dress within the club", and that Mr. ______ (the club's owner), "would not tolerate" such ignominious behaviour at his club. In response to this advice, Billy reassured the gentleman, telling him not to worry about the matter. Moments later, Mr. ______ walked through the door. On hearing the club owner's arrival, Billy simply turned around and said: "A'right ______! Great wee club ye've got here, but some bastard's knocked (stolen) ma tie!" - whereupon Mr. ______ did an about turn, and walked straight back through the door!
I was attacked and for years I suffered depression and suicide attempts. But I now have a coping strategy. I have a Billy Connolly DVD in my player all the time, and anytime those thoughts start to creep into my head. with the press of a button Billy's on and within 5 minutes I'm cracking up. I told my GP and he cracked up too. I said he should be on prescription "ah so you're depressed eh?" and prescribe a Billy DVD.
Any recommendation on which DVD? I'm a newer fan, known about Billy for years and always enjoyed him, but never really looked further into his work. I feel like I could use a good Billy Connolly DVD in my player at all times.
I have been lucky enough to have met Billy twice! After years of being a professional musician, I was booked as a Billy Connolly Lookalike. As an OCD sufferer I had to do the whole nine yards! Learn the banjo (which Billy autographed!), do the standup - either copying Billy's stuff or doing stories in his style from my life in rock music. Billy knows what I do and the second time I met him he not only asked how I was doing, he gave me advice on how he takes his stories onto the stage and how he does his act. I absolutely LOVE this man.
No adequate words to express what this wonderful man has meant to me and people all over the world who love to laugh. Thanks Sir Billy .........bluddy brillyint.........
I met Billy before he was famous and did 2 weeks at the Kings theatre in Edinburgh in 1975. I have never encountered a funnier, more likeable and genuine human being since then.
Billy had a story about Chick Murray. Chick fell over in the street one day ... a concerned pedestrian came over to him to see if he was all right. "Och, have ye fallen over?". Chick replied "No! I'm tryin' to break a bar o' chocolate in mah back pocket!" I listened to Billy's cassettes under my blanket as a kid. A guilty pleasure! Magical. God Bless Billy Connolly! I love ye Big Yin!
It's striking, how unfailingly gracious he is. You get the sense that he becomes pals with everyone he meets. My grandfather had Parkinson's and my father in law does now. It was just crushing to learn he had it as well.
You said it well, it is quite striking how gracious he is. Gracious is an extremely apt word to describe his whole demeanor. Thanks, I knew there was a good word for it out there somewhere and you nailed it.
If I could trade places with Billy and take his Parkinson’s away I would. He’s a gift and more of a gift to society than I ever will be. This world needs Billy Connolly. #billyconnolly #iloveyouso
Dreama40 😌 And you as well. Bless you a million times over. I wish there more people who had good intentions and a heart like yours, our world would be better off 🌎♥️🙏🏽
I met Billy in a bar in Glasgow - a lonnng time ago. He was a gentleman. Very kind, patient, and he signed an autograph for my mother, who at that time in her life was very sad. I'll always be grateful to him for making my mam laugh, when all she was doing was crying. God rest her. And God bless him
Billy's voice and humor helped me through so many rough times.. and been with me through many happy times too. He is true national treasure of Scotland.
I would cry buckets of tears if I met Billy. Blessings to you Billy. I think of your kindness every day across a the miles in south Africa. Thank you. Blessings.
Beautiful Susan, perfect interview, cheers from an expat in Melbourne. Billy is one of the very few immortals of comedy and the big screen, hopefully he'll still be going for another few decades yet.
Felt like I was brought up on billy Connolly with my dad and when he passed in 2016 it broke part of me that cant be fixed but listening to billy and enjoying him and just how he talks , it takes me back to a happy place and for those moments makes my mental health and depression so much better. I thank you kindly billy for the service you have done the world and me.
One of the best. I was once driving and listening to a tape of his (long time ago) and had to pull up as I couldn't see for tears of laughter! It's sad to see anyone with this condition, but one thing that's not been affected is his humour. Great man and I must say I like his art too. God bless you Billy. 😊
Brilliant. I spoke to billy in Sydney many years ago, I was walking to his gig at the Sydney opera house, and he was walking there too. I said to my mate, ‘there’s billy Connolly,’ and he turned to us and said ‘hello’ .....
He has always expressed fascination to all aspects of life. In all his travel adventures he found true joy in discovery of everything as 'that's brilliant!' Loud, often. Human, but even with reason he doesn't express or dwell on bitterness. Connolly's gift is making us laugh at him and ourselves. A comedian by nature and therapist for all that ails us. Even having Parkinson's has been integrated as consistent with his child like view and approach to life as an adventure. A wonderful role model.
Susan and Billy are both wonderful people. The charm and warmth that come from them, I only wish that we could have seen the banter and Glasgow love between them before (and after) they recorded for the programme. Susan was in total awe of him.
Saw Billy Connolly live in Calgary in the mid 80's. Grew up in Glasgow listening to his records until we moved to Canada in 74. I'm definitely going to be sad when he leaves this world.
The joy on that elderly man's face when he realizes that he holding Billy Connolly by the hand. The joy this man has brought into so many lives , just by being who he is. He's an immortal already.

My dad grew up in Nitshill which isn't far from where sir Billy Connolly grew up. Billy Connolly is a bit older than my dad, but my dad grew up watching and loving him, his parents too, my grandparents who I have no memory of as my gran died 2 years before my birth and my Grampa died 2 years after, they died 4 years and 1 day apart and my Grampa died on their wedding anniversary. But I also grew up watching sir Billy Connolly, any Scottish comedians (except Frankie Boyle just ain't a fan) I pretty much love. But Billy is different. Because when watching him I know how many of my family members he has brought joy to, brought comedy too. He is a Scottish legend and honestly I hold him in the highest esteem that I think he is the equivalent of Robert burns, today. He needs statues and buildings in his name. We need to eat haggis neeps and tatties on like his birthday or something, because this man is a legend and a Scottish legend. The whole nation holds him in high esteem.
Met this legend in Gozo... He took us up the street to a house with no walls. But clothes still hangingin the closet. A Perfect gentleman fascinated by this bizarre house. Picture proudly on my wall... May we keep him a good many years yet.
Sir Connelly has always reminded me of my grandfather. Especially these days. Sweet, wise and smelling a bit like peat and whiskey. God bless ye Billy.
whenever I go on a youtube binge on Billy I get scared - has my subconscious told me he has passed away??? Thank God so far I have been wrong. Billy - my fave comedian EVER :)
susan calman on channel 5 today - Cruising with Susan Calman - just ate a meal with an egg on it and as she atooke her first bite she says 'that's extraordinary' ...... in the same way Billy would say it and it bought tears to my eyes. love this woman.... she's extraordinary
I love Billy so much, I started a Facebook Group called," Billy Connolly for Scottish Parliament! I know Billy would crack up laughing if he ever finds it!😂😂😂
"I've got Parkinson's Disease... I wish he'd kept it to himself. " So typical of Sir Billy. He makes me feel a strange mixture of emotion.. joy, joy, and a pinch of sadness and tenderness seeing him. However he was looky mighty well in this meeting. Oh hell, just got to the last bit and I'm welling up..."and you're proud to stand there, wet".... I love you, Sir Billy, ever since I first saw you in the 70's. 🙏💗🤗
As someone who is hard of hearing I had the subtitles on but they are having a hard time translating the Glasgow patter hilar! 😂😆 love Billy and Susan tho! Genius!
I hate to think about it, but when the big guy in the sky says he wants Billy back with him I hope the powers at be commemorate his life with a massive statue of him wearing his bannana slippers , he is a true scottish hero and I hope his name will remain legendary and always pull a string in scottish hearts.
I am going to be broken when this incredible man leaves this world.
You and me both. He's been a hero of mine as long as I've been able to comprehend the words 'bum,' 'jobby' and 'f***'
Go mbeannai Dia Duit Billy. Ye gan' hame.
I’m sure a lot of us will be.😥

Is it me or does he look better than a few years ago, whatever there giving him keep doing it !
He's on proper medications now. For years he was unmedicated as the effects of the medication were worse than that of the disease itself.
Just thinking the same... He looks great.
A beautiful little film. More please

Love the wee fella at 8:50. That would be my reaction too. What an icon to meet.
He was a proper musician. Often overlooked.
Even as he is today his one liners are still premier league to the rest of ours vauxhall conference "I feel terribly stroked" haha
Beautiful! 😢✌🏻❤️
