There are two new iPad animation apps that are worth checking out. The first is Callipeg. It started life as a kickstarter project and is geared towards professional animators and is packed with features. The Second is called Looom. Looom is different, it's more like a music app without music. It's kind of hard to describe.

"It doesn't feel like an animation app but a video game" -- me as a 5-year-old with access to MS Paint, and using the freeform marquee tool to select and color in abstract art.
Isn't it nice!
While I'm using it I love to realize: Wow! A bunch of guys including kids did this!
Feel so grateful to be tought by kids :)
MsPaint was our imagination playground
Thank you for this review, Brad! Video import is indeed in beta testing and will be released soon.
Can't wait!
Any idea on how soon audio is coming? That would really make you guys a better option than procreate!!
Just want u guys to know ur app doesn’t run well on the iPad 7th gen i would totally use it but as of now it just doesn’t work well on my iPad
Still seems like a great app can’t wait for it to hopefully work better on my iPad
I'm so glad your app is blowing up!!
Audio features, like importing, playback and scrubbing would be great
You’re the best drawing tech review channel
No doubt
Facts**
Oh wow, that's really cool! The fact that the apps for mobile drawing and animation are getting better and better is amazing!
I just finished watching the video and went directly to the appstore for Looom.
It is a joy to animate, specially as I've seen the frame by frame struggle method.
"...until you use it". Yes, we have to use our brain right side to quit thinking the linnear way.
Thanks!
You deserve to get your first 1M subscribers soon.
I rly want to use looom but I already asked ny mom for procreate and got it so i don't have the audacity to ask for more
Me: doesn't have an ipad
Also me: watches this anyway
Edit: I have one now! :D
Me😂
thats me in every iPad video
I'm pumped. I've watched brad for years now and I'm finally getting an iPad later this month 😂😂 let's hope I will love it and be at least decent at it.
@@shimeih2287 same
It's for future use😂
I just bought procreate yesterday cuz I want to animate and you come out with this vid today.
Bruh
if u own an apple u should get used to giving out money
ProCreate is still worth the purchase, though!
Still worth purchase! The art tools are bae
If you want to animate I recommend to start with procreate. If you're really digging into animation, go get a computer and download a full size animation program
Honestly Brad, just how do you do so much?? Courses, constant reviews with unique arts or animations in each!
Please do a "productivity review" one day! Hahahah I think I may learn something with you on that!
Great video Brad!! Love these apps, Looom is really fun. Loved your animation course btw, super helpful and inspiring!
Dear Brad... just felt like letting you know, you’ve inspired me to learn how to draw digitally. Born in 1969, I’m always the oldest in any online/whatsapp program... and I get embarrassed sometimes. But I don’t want to ever look back and think “I wonder or what if...”. So thanks. Your video’s are awesome and done is such a way that it’s not intimidating for me. GBU
Love you Brad thanks for reviewing these 2 new apps
Loom just made something I am doing for another project go from grueling to trivial and incredibly fun. I owe you a squarespace sub for this dude
I'm a beginner in animation and knowing there is a lot of choices of animation software feels really great so thanks for the review Brad
Thank you so much for this video, i recently ordered my ipad pro and I'm happy to see that there is a more professional animation app for it. Great review
Lowkey regret getting my XP Pen 12 pro 😞 .. should’ve got an iPad instead. Procreate and other iPad apps look fun to draw on especially with the Paperlike screen
I’ve got the XP Pen 12 Pro and the iPad Pro and honestly the iPad pro is just so much versatile. My workflow has never been better
iPad rules for art, so responsive, great apps etc
there are pros and cons to everything. when u see someone having fun, it's easy to feel like ur missing out
I personally hate drawing on the iPad. But everyone has their own preferences
Don't worry you ain't missing out anything. In fact you probably might hate the iPad like I did and just stick with PC
Welp will be watching this with my 8 year old later tonight. He’s an iPad animation junkie. Will def check these out
I am also an 8 plus 46 YO, and sure, he will also love Looom
@@imacverde3260 I’m 8 plus 8 years old
@@dh4444 16?
I bet ur 8 year old is better than me at animating than me lol btw I am 14
@@scxr2821 same bruh i am 13 and same
Thank you Brad for this review! I’ll definitely check these apps out :)
I used RoughAnimator for over a year on my iPad, but it’s awesome to see more new options coming out!
I love your style brad! your awesome!
Thank you for covering these 2 apps! I have watched Callipeg tutorial before by the French developer and first impression is - it is like more advanced Procreate! I haven't bought it yet but seems pretty powerful indeed. I also tried Looom recently and - wow it is something unique ineed! The thing you can draw "live" and you get the generated animated drawings "floating" so easily is amazing! But - it somehow makes my iPad pro (2018) super hot right away, like Procreate did it before (for me) but they fixed it, so this is what's stoping me from using it as I'm not sure if the heat is good for my iPad... I wonder if anyone else is having this issue with Looom.
I really see towards calipeg, it seems really powerful... and happily you can buy it as a one time purchase
It’s outta my price range unfortunately :(
Oh I see so many applications for Looom. You could export your loom animations into another animation app and do all the fancy linework and stuff there lickety-split!! It's so quick and easy it seems like a perfect way to work on little pieces of your rough pass for a larger animation. It doesn't have to be perfect because you're just laying out the idea anyway. This is DOPE
Thanks, you have been my iPad guru!
I feel that i wanto to install both of them after watching ur video! Looom looks incredible
Wow!!!! Eager to try them!!! Thanks
Keep doing what you do! :D
Thank you :) I don't have any education in animation, I've only played around in drawing frame by frame or tweening in Flash, but when I looked up "audio" syncing in old style traditional animation is... you don't have any audio either... duh you just had cell sheets... but you have a sort of guide/chart/track read (dope sheet???) that indicates what happens during which frame (what action, sound, or mouth movement etc). If anyone knows how to do this the old fashioned way, marking the sound / time maybe you can explain this better than I can.
Love this guy honesty
Not into animating, but it's still interesting to see what's being released on the Ipad. Great video.
Looom is fun
AD Classic is the traditional animation app I use on the iPad. It is full featured as well.
Hi! Does anyone know of an app which fills frames automatically? So for example you draw a circle on A and F and the app fills B,C,D and E by itself?
If you did an animation pro course i would worship you. The program looks so powerful but learning it is soooo hard
Hey brad, I love your videos. Id like to know what apps would you recommend for digital art on android?
Thanks! I checked out callipeg! Its a lot of fun! :-D
I know, why I keep subscribed and watch your stuff. Always a joy.
I wonder, how hard it is to draw some stuff on callipeg and use the animation in other programs like Blender later.
I noticed that the Callipeg app's brush strokes were wobbly before you mentioned it. Kind of surprising for an iPad app.
yesss finally a callipeg review from brad!
even tho i already have it, haha it's a great app!
Thanks a lot!
At this stage I kinda still prefer rough animator, cause I need those audio files for my projects. But I might try Callipeg if they add the audio and video feature
Thanks a lot, Brad for the review! It would be great if you do some review videos on two other iPad animation apps called FlipaClip and RoughAnimator.
Callipeg seems pretty nice, reminds me of roughanimator but with more brushes which is priceless. roughanimator is so far the best non-professional program for frame-by-frame animating in terms of functions: it's simple, it has multiple tracks, it lets you do lipsync. the brushes however are disastrous so there s no chance to make an esthetic film on it. i do hope Callipeg will make it to the leading position on the market, it seems very clever..
I think I’ll wait a few months before testing/buying Calipeg. It looks extremely promising and professional.
Those look great for hand-drawn animation. I'd also like to see a great iPad app for cut-out style animation.
ToonSquid finally came 😁
@@meaningoflife7199 I saw that just a few days ago. I downloaded it.
Nice finds; which one do you recommend Brad
For palm rejection problems I usually just wear a hoodie and grab the end of the sleeve with the Apple Pencil. It’s simple and cozy 😆 also works with long sleeve shirts. But that’s what a just naturally wear
You mentioned that one of the problems with animating in Procreate is animating multiple things at once and that's something I've been struggling with but you did mention groups and folders to get around this. Do you have a tutorial where you go over this?
Is there any app that will render to a video without the background - ie have an alpha channel to be used in another app?
Hi Brad, do you have a link to your animation course on Procreate? I cannot find it under Playlist. Thank you!
Im about to get the s6 lite. Ive been waiting to use rough animator for a long time. I wish i could get an ipad though
Nice thnks!
Me: can't draw a circle.
still, me: enjoys every single video Brad Colbow releases.
How the hell am I not subscribed to you? You are awesome man.
Looom looks awesome. Animation apps should gravitate towards that idea.
Can you import file layers from affinity or procreate to loom? Or callipeg?
Are there any animation apps where i can upload a png picture of say an animal and then animate it's limbs and such. Doesn't have to be on ios
How much ram is in the iPad that you are using?
I’m a lefty and I just got looom. Is there any way to swap reel placement?
Can you import an image to either of these apps?
do you have videos for the best animation app?
Hi Brad! Can we dowload Loom only appstore
great video man! i dont know why i watched it because i dont have an i pad bt still i love ur drawings man! jst keep it up!
Hi! I'm from Brazil, and i've discovered your channel today! That's amazing! I'm looking for courses to learn animation using ipad pro, do you know about any course?
I’d be curious your thoughts on roughanimator. I ‘ve used it a few times for work and though it was great! Seen some others do amazing animations with it and it’s cheap. Doesn’t look very polished at all (in regards to UI) but functional I got along with it great.
CoffeeCupRobot I agree! All animations I've posted are done with RoughAnimator, it’s great but I'm sure Callipeg is going to be better, I'd really want it but 50 € is too much for an ipad app, also I can’t stand subscriptions
Hey Brad, Do you happen to know if Callipeg can export an animation that will play automatically? Thanks Brad..!
I've been looking for a vector animation app like Moho or Toon Boom in iPadOS. I have graphics made in Illustrator but would love to import it into animation. Any ideas?
which size ipad u using? to animate? 11inch or 12.9?
@3:02
*Him:* One of my favorite hand gestures here is two fingers up.
*Me:* Me too!
😂 😂 😂
Amazing, but my country not support this app.
How I can use this apps?
Hey Brad, I'm getting a 12.9 iPad pro for art, do you recommend any keyboard cases? Should I get a Bluetooth keyboard case or just get the smart folio keyboard?
Go if you have the $. If don't, do as me: a nice case even to carry the pencil. Also I'm using an old iMac's wireless keyboard.
I guess this is way better -beside it is cheapper, as you get total mobility: lay on bed or watever.
I'm trying to get rid of the laptop style.
How does Callipeg compare to Rough Animator? Aside from Rough Animator being able to import videos.
I know this is not involved with this video at all but will you be reviewing the kamvas pro 24? Im interested in it but I really only trust your reviews.
Dear Brad, can you decrease the shutter speed on your camera? The high shutter speed is causing pretty heavy jitter in your movements.
What ipad are you using in this video?
Looom Looks good!
can you tell me if i can do pixel art there?
does the iPad have palm rejection while you're drawing?
How does it work on ipad 7? Good?
Can u make a course about Callipeg? I liked the one you made for ProCreate about how to animate? @Brad Colbow
Can you try out the galxy fold
Can you maybe also review RoughAnimator on iPad it is a really good app for animation and seems really professional to me
Very cool
Mr. Brad
Do you think 32GB of storage Ipad will work; if I works on animation movies?
Your response will be very helpful ❤️
I'm from Germany and you are my favorite RUclipsr
Ruff animator is cool and has layers and keyframes and all that. This new one looks rad too.
Rough Animator I don't believe has keyframes.
When i bought a callipeg as permanent, then i uninstall and install again or more iPad, its ok?
Should i buy again?
Brad: animates by straight ahead action
my oldies animation instructor: *breaks iPad in two* This is heresy, you son of a devil. We don't that around here.
Can you review matepad pro and m pencil
Brad, thar high shutter speed on your camera is stopping your hands from blurring when they move fast, so it's looking like they blink in and out of existence.
Are you planning on doing any courses on Callipeg or any app thats better for 2D animation on ipad?
Do a Microsoft Apps for animation too
If anyone knows or use clip studio paint, what version of clip studio paint that has that really rrally dark grey interface like photoshop? Thankyou🙏🏼
Every version can.
Don't take me for sure cause I quit from CSP $uscription.
I love Procreate and Affinity Draw ...and Looom now.
Can you plz make a video on how you draw stuff plzzz
Pls review the wacom cintiq 13 hd
I made an animation using flipaclip. I like it, but i feel like it could be better. Maybe ill try one of these.
please review surface book 3's animation app
Can you do a video about android animation apps
Can we do Adobe animate use in ipad pro?
It’s not available to iPad
I like this type of video 👏👏👏👏👏
I need this channel and video cuz I don't know anything about animation apps
yeah ❤️
Please review:
1) Motion Graphix Animator

Please check out the Lenovo ideapad flex 5! Apparently it comes with a stylus
