Cartoon Network spoon fed us episodes and then would start back over from the beginning mid Saga. U kids of today have no idea how brutal it was watching DBZ back then. New subscriber! Please try to look for the genesis version and super nes version of dbz, and you will get how it was a phenomenon in our country, like so many other animes.
37 here. I had to trick my parents because we had dinner when this show was aired. So to watch this show as a kid, I had to make some plans... every day. So telling my parents I was in love with the news reporter was easier to explain.

After so many years passing by, I forgot how much of a beast vegeta was when he was on Namek. He totally carried the show. And the nostalgia is real. In my opinion, this season was the best of the series yet. And reminded me so much of my childhood days of cartoon network in the afternoons.Thanks for putting in all together!
I remember waiting for DBZ to start back up again in 1996-1997 and it was the Radditz saga all over again. It took them along time to come out with new episodes because they were still working on dubbing them and reediting them. But I would still watch every episode. When a new saga was finally out, it was an incredible surprise. I would run home when I got off the bus and turn the tv on as fast as I could. Damn I miss being a kid.

Dude I remember how would be looking forward to getting home from school just in time to catch the newest episode on toonami... But I have to agree this shortened version is so much better in tons of ways... Back in the day this frieza saga took literally like 3 months at the least to complete... Every single episode was only 22 minutes long..It would always start with the 2 minute series intro .then another 2 min recap saying "last time on dragon ball z" then you would get like maybe 10minutes of actual story ...a good 5 minutes of that was just people powering up..then it would always end with a 2 minute teaser for the next episode saying "next time on dragon Ball z"..then another 2 minute series outro..looking back on it it was kind of a rip-off. Hack I remember whenever all the episodes of the freezer saga hadn't even been dubbed in English yet and it would play up until the Ginyu Force arrived.. then the entire series of start back over.. it happened like four or five times before they started actually playing new episodes.. even with all the bull crap I was totally addicted and still absolutely love dragon ball except for GT I haven't really seen that many episodes of it

Then they’d get all the way back to the Buu saga just to get halfway through it this time and then restart at Raditz again 😭 it took about 3 or 4 total restarts of the entire series just to finally finish the Android/Cell and Buu sagas.
@@SilentTheorist_017 from what I’ve heard Funimation (the English dubbing company) wasn’t finished working on the later episodes yet, they still had the voice actors working while airing the episodes they already completed, so they had no choice but to restart the whole series once it got to the point that they had no more English episodes left to air. And I feel like a bonus reason for them to do that other than the fact that they hadn’t finished yet, was so that anyone who just so happened to start watching DBZ in the middle of the series, let’s say the Frieza or Cell saga for example, would be able to see the show from the beginning so that they’d understand what was going on up to the point they initially started the show. Take me for example, I started watching DBZ when I was 5 and by that time they were already at the Frieza saga, so I basically saw Goku vs Frieza before I saw Goku vs Vegeta…then when they restarted it I got to see the Saiyan saga from the beginning and understood the story in full. Besides them finishing the work, it was also a way of them building the American fan base, because not everyone in America started watching DBZ during the very first American run.

Goku rolling up on the Ginyu force has to one of the coldest showings of power level increases in the entire series. It’s so cool and mysterious and low key. Like ultra instinct before ultra instinct.
Vegeta post the Recoome fight had a HUGE increase that topped Gokus increase....until Goku got his body swapped, beaten up and swapped back...then after the healing chamber Goku got a HUGE INCREASE...the biggest right before the legendary Ssj transformation.

yeah Goku dismantled them fools brilliantly. It was so clean, Goku rarely fights like this. he went in on the Nappa and the ginyu Force because he was lowkey furious with them for hurting his friends and he wasn't playing no games. I can't recall Goku ever fighting like this again. This is future Trunks level dismantling
Rewatching this I got a new respect for Krillin in doing his best to keep Gohan and himself alive. He even got in some clutch shots against opponents why stronger than himself.

Just off the top of my head His scattering ki blast in the Saiyan saga killed multiple Saibamen, surprising Vegeta + Nappa The destructo-disc in the same battle being dangerous enough to probably kill Nappa if Vegeta didn't warn him The destructo-disc cutting Frieza's tail and so on
I love dbza but because of it a lot of people diss Krillin. Dudes is a human on a planet full of aliens and he’s doing his best to keep his best friends son alive in an awful situation. Despite his own terror and small stature in both size and power he stands in the way of evil’s objectives. I’ve always loved him. And when he got 18 I saw that as a major win. And he got a great pay off in super.

Namek Saga is the best saga of DBZ if you are the older generation who watched this back in the day. Newer generation likes Android/Cell saga more. The thing is, Namek and Frieza saga was a saga that had no shananighans, it was dark, it was when Vegeta finally showed some unity with the others, and its the saga it introduced the Super Sayian. And it all happened in a different planet. At least in my opinion, its the saga that brings me most memories of my childhood when watching dbz. Then Cell saga is 2nd.

Same here Namek Saga was not only my introduction to DBZ but to anime as a whole. I was 5 years old watching this on old school Toonami back in ‘00. Couldn’t wait to go home after school and sit down and watch it and talk about it with friends at school the next day.
It's been 27 years and I'm still a big ass kid watching Toonami after school. This dub will forever be the best of all time. I think I was the only girl in my school who loved to watch it. I was only 7.
I watched this for the first time since I was a child. At 33 years old, it is still just as amazing if not even better, now that I can relate to it even more through the personal struggles I have went through in my life. So well put together and seamless editing, what a gift for all the fans who grew up on DBZ. Well done. Can't wait for the other sagas! Going from "Next time on Dragon Ball Z" at every cliffhanger, to this phenomenal edit is without words.
Dude I remember how would be looking forward to getting home from school just in time to catch the newest episode on toonami... But I have to agree this shortened version is so much better in tons of ways... Back in the day this frieza saga took literally like 3 months at the least to complete... Every single episode was only 22 minutes long..It would always start with the 2 minute series intro .then another 2 min recap saying "last time on dragon ball z" then you would get like maybe 10minutes of actual story ...a good 5 minutes of that was just people powering up..then it would always end with a 2 minute teaser for the next episode saying "next time on dragon Ball z"..then another 2 minute series outro..looking back on it it was kind of a rip-off. Hack I remember whenever all the episodes of the freezer saga hadn't even been dubbed in English yet and it would play up until the Ginyu Force arrived.. then the entire series of start back over.. it happened like four or five times before they started actually playing new episodes.. even with all the bull crap I was totally addicted and still absolutely love dragon ball except for GT I haven't really seen that many episodes of it

Then they’d get all the way back to the Buu saga just to get halfway through it this time and then restart at Raditz again 😭 it took about 3 or 4 total restarts of the entire series just to finally finish the Android/Cell and Buu sagas.

@@SilentTheorist_017 from what I’ve heard Funimation (the English dubbing company) wasn’t finished working on the later episodes yet, they still had the voice actors working while airing the episodes they already completed, so they had no choice but to restart the whole series once it got to the point that they had no more English episodes left to air. And I feel like a bonus reason for them to do that other than the fact that they hadn’t finished yet, was so that anyone who just so happened to start watching DBZ in the middle of the series, let’s say the Frieza or Cell saga for example, would be able to see the show from the beginning so that they’d understand what was going on up to the point they initially started the show. Take me for example, I started watching DBZ when I was 5 and by that time they were already at the Frieza saga, so I basically saw Goku vs Frieza before I saw Goku vs Vegeta…then when they restarted it I got to see the Saiyan saga from the beginning and understood the story in full. Besides them finishing the work, it was also a way of them building the American fan base, because not everyone in America started watching DBZ during the very first American run.

Goku rolling up on the Ginyu force has to one of the coldest showings of power level increases in the entire series. It’s so cool and mysterious and low key. Like ultra instinct before ultra instinct.
After the gravity training, I don't think that Goku knew how strong he really was. It was a test of his new powers.
Vegeta post the Recoome fight had a HUGE increase that topped Gokus increase....until Goku got his body swapped, beaten up and swapped back...then after the healing chamber Goku got a HUGE INCREASE...the biggest right before the legendary Ssj transformation.

yeah Goku dismantled them fools brilliantly. It was so clean, Goku rarely fights like this. he went in on the Nappa and the ginyu Force because he was lowkey furious with them for hurting his friends and he wasn't playing no games. I can't recall Goku ever fighting like this again. This is future Trunks level dismantling
Rewatching this I got a new respect for Krillin in doing his best to keep Gohan and himself alive. He even got in some clutch shots against opponents why stronger than himself.
For real. He's basically the main protagonist of the saga until Goku comes back.

Namek Saga is the best saga of DBZ if you are the older generation who watched this back in the day.
Newer generation likes Android/Cell saga more.
The thing is, Namek and Frieza saga was a saga that had no shananighans, it was dark, it was when Vegeta finally showed some unity with the others, and its the saga it introduced the Super Sayian. And it all happened in a different planet.
At least in my opinion, its the saga that brings me most memories of my childhood when watching dbz.
Then Cell saga is 2nd.

Same here Namek Saga was not only my introduction to DBZ but to anime as a whole. I was 5 years old watching this on old school Toonami back in ‘00. Couldn’t wait to go home after school and sit down and watch it and talk about it with friends at school the next day.

It's been 27 years and I'm still a big ass kid watching Toonami after school. This dub will forever be the best of all time. I think I was the only girl in my school who loved to watch it. I was only 7.
Throwing Linking Park on during Zarbon Rounr 1 gave me all the feelings. That was so awesome.
I watched this for the first time since I was a child. At 33 years old, it is still just as amazing if not even better, now that I can relate to it even more through the personal struggles I have went through in my life.
