Solo basses sound different than orchestral basses. They're tuned higher and have different strings as far as I know. And this maestro gets the most beautiful sounds of a bass!

Also the bridge is diferent for orchestral music and for solo pieces, because the distance from the strings to the bridge is idealy longer for orchestral and shorter for solo pieces. But tuning is the same as far as I am concerned, I always play in EADG tune (in orchestra basses usually play lower notes because that is their soul purpose). Also, resin makes a big diference, too.

Wow. I am a cellist and working on this piece once again. I have to say when I saw that this was being playing on a bass I was sceptical. Mr. Paradzik you made this piece sound like it belongs to the bass. Bravo! I was on the edge of my seat.

Absolutely outstanding! As a bassist myself, I know how difficult it is to get this kind of control and clean tone. And Mr Paradzik does it standing up, which I find a much more difficult way to play; I use a stool. A perfect 10, and I'm going to research getting some recordings of his work.
This is a melancholy piece no matter what instrument it's played on ... and the bass is probably the best in bringing that out, so I personally love this version!

Esta obra, Franz Schubert la escribio originalmente para Arpeggione, tambien llamada Chitarra d'amore. (Guitarra de amor), que suena muy similar al chelo o al contrabajo, pero tengo entendido que ya no quedan Arpeggiones funcionando, y los luthieres ya no los fabrican. Hermosa obra, para un raro instrumento. La Radio Deustche Welle, tiene una versi{on de esta pieza, tocada en un arpeggione. Es conmovedor escuchar su sonido.
Lieber Bozo, mein Sohn ist 15, spielt seit 7 Jahren Kontrabass und wir habe heute mal wieder DICH geschaut und gehört. ( Dabei habe ich auch gehört, dass du deutsch sprichst- natürlich viel einfacher das schreiben für mich) Er ist sooo begeistert von deinem Spiel, besonders deiner Bogenhand und ist völlig fasziniert von deinem Ton. Er sagte eben noch , Mama, so möchte ich auch spielen können. Und er meinte noch, wie und was man wohl können muss, dass man bei dir studieren kann!?😉 Im Juni macht er beim Bundeswettbewerb JugendMusiziert in Halle mit, spielt dort, 1.Satz Romberg e-moll, Bozza( Prelude et Allegro) und Vocalise von Rachmaninoff. Dein Spiel ist so voller Wärme und voller Liebe für den Kontrabass - einfach wunderbar. Das finden wir beide!😊😍 Nachtrag: Er hat - trotz Magen - Darm - Infekt einen 2.Preis erspielt und will sich nun beim BuJu Orchester bewerben , in der DSP ist er schon.

Have you heard Mr. Paradzik play the theme from _Schindler's List_ on double bass? I was in tears, and very few pieces of music cause me to do that. I didn't even see the movie. I have a new respect for double bass due to Mr. Paradzik, though I have just (at age 49) started learning cello. The beautiful deep tones of both cello and bass can almost be overwhelming in my opinion. And I actually love hearing Paradzik play bass over Yo-Yo Ma playing cello, if that at all matters. Probably not.
I started studying double bass a few years ago.. Being a student at 50 years is interesting.. i wish i started earlier, but i figure if i can find the fountain of youth, when i'm 200 years old i might be half as good as Mr. P. :)
This is the real Bass sound! This sound never seeks to imitate the sound of a Cello!

I've played bass since 1965 starting at 13. This is a masterpiece performance. Wonderful tone and flawless playing!
