i find it poetic that Martinet's last VA role was as Mario and Luigi's father in the Mario movie. Even more so were the last lines that he said, "These are my boys!" as their dad, and the classic "Wahoo!" as Jump Man. Truly the end of an era.
Him stepping down as Mario is a big indication of retirement, but it’s yet to be said he’s retiring from voice acting entirely. Cameos may still be on the table
I'm told that he's still got upcoming credits in things? So he might not be retiring from voiceover completely. Probably just things that require falsetto. Like I bet he could easily keep doing Wario and Waluigi (god, it's a tragedy we never got a Waluigi game with Charles) but it's better to make a clean break.

I didn't realize it, but growing up in an abusive home, the escapism of playing Mario games and hearing that dumb, funny little plumber man's voice inject just a little bit of silliness and whimsy into my life when I otherwise had none, Charles Martinet very much helped me get through life and survive as a kid. And he's always been there for as long as I can remember. I'm gonna miss him.
@@plumberchoochooman They definitely did, and thanks! But there's a certain sense of nostalgia for Mario and by extension Martinet's voice that I was unaware even existed until this announcement. Mainly wrote this to kind of work through that. But I sincerely hope Charles knows just how many lives he's touched and how many people he's affected in positive ways over the past three decades.

I agree with everything you said. Best of luck to future actors of mario and co for years to come and happy retirement to the beloved Charles Martinet!
I met Charles at a Con, he was so kind, goofy, and genuine. I'm so glad that a man like that was the one who voiced one of the most iconic characters in all of gaming.
I don't get emotional easily. People retire, they pass away, thats life. But man, this one is hard for me. He's the voice of my childhood. He helped shape me into who I am today. I love him to death and wish him well on his adventures as the Mario Ambassador. Will miss him deeply but I am happy for him and he deserves a rest.
@@fasddfadfgasdgs Yes, I'm thankful for that. Also just generally happy that he gets to explore the world and basically have the best semi-retirement ever. He deserves it after years of being a beacon of joy and happiness for generations.
I didn't formally meet Charles, but at a con event I went to his panel and as he was walking through past the audience up to the table he was waving at everybody that he could and he even waved at me. It was such an incredible moment and an absolute joy. I hope you get the chance to meet him Arlo.
Charles' energy for performing as his characters always felt as though it came from the same mysterious wellspring as Robin Williams. It transcends "man doing a character's voice" and is better described as "character's voice escapes from man's mouth". He's a treasure and I"m so glad the news was not that we've lost him.
The end of an era. Charles is an absolute legend. I'll never forget his 30+ years of defining the Super Mario franchise and my childhood. I hope he enjoys his retirement, he's earned it. I'll miss him.
@@watershipup7101 Well, it could have been said more accurately. It's only been 29 years, since Charles Martinet's voice as Mario in the CD-ROM version of Mario Teaches Typing (1994), which predates Super Mario 64 (1996). 29 years is not "30+". :P EDIT: I'm not trying to be a jerk with that comment, don't take it more harshly than intended. :)
What an icon, the most well known voice in Nintendo and among the top voices of the past 50 years. There are very few who wouldn't recognize it. Thanks for everything.
I met Charles at a convention back in 2018. I fully expected the line to be super long and wait ages to meet him; but to my surprise, there was no line at all. As I nervously walked right up to a man I never thought I'd get to meet, I noticed the line wasn't completely empty after all. A little boy in a wheelchair was at the front, and Charles was beaming down at him as they discussed their favorite Mario games and moments with so much enthusiasm. What always stuck with me is how Charles didn't sound rushed at all. He seemed overjoyed to speak to this kid for as long as he wanted because he could see how happy it made him. I felt bad for walking up so that I could meet Charles too 😅 He's the real deal, and I can't wait to see him again next month!
Charles Martinet pretty much formed Mario's entire character. Mario's jolly and happy-go lucky personality was entirely from Martinet's belief that Mario should always be uplifting and encouraging. Charles knew exactly how he wanted Mario to be before he properly did the role full-time. Whoever's voicing Mario now has unfathomably large shoes to fill. I wish Charles and his successor the best of luck in the future.
The man deserves a long, relaxing retirement (or at least a vacation). He's put in so much work over the years and has brought so much joy. Best wishes to Charles!
I got to meet Charles at a con a while back, he had a great panel where he discussed his voice acting journey and how he became Mario, the entire time he had so much energy and heart and kept jumping between all his mario voices like it was natural. I don't think I stopped smiling during that entire panel. At that same con he had a meet and greet and signing all for FREE, I was shocked you don't see that often at cons, it felt like he genuinely wanted to meet and talk with every single one of us. I'm going to miss his Mario
The past couple of years really had me thinking about the future of Mario and crew's voice acting based on the last few Mario games. Sooner or later, it was bound to happen. But I humbly thank Charles for making our childhoods awesome. Thanks for the last 25+ years of games!
The sadness of the reality of life continuing to pass me by becomes only more evident. Thank you, Charles. Your role for our childhood truly was like no other.
Got to see him at a con a few years back. My wife got to meet him and took some pictures with him. Absolute gentleman. Wish him all the best and thank him for being a part of all our childhoods.
My Childhood with hearing his voice was So Cheerful and Happy and I Played Mario Kart wii and I heard Charles Martinet voice as Mario for the first time and after the Wii got Selled I was Sad 😔 because I didn't get to Play Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 on there and I also didn't get to play Sonic Unleashed on the Wii
Also reminds me of Kevin Conroy’s Batman. He was never the ONLY Batman, but he defined a generation of Batman and, for many, was and always will be the BEST Batman. It’ll take getting used to, but at the end of the day, these are characters who are meant to live across generations and change as the audience does
Ha ha ha ha ha he is NOTHING compared to Conroy. Conroy at least gave something to the character. Martinet was just a quick cheap italian stereotype. No loss here, move on.,
@@laladoopsyAh yes, because we all know the best way to honor Conroy's memory: Shaming people for liking other voice actors too. Truly what he would've wanted.
I saw him at comic con last year. I stood in line for an autograph for like an hour and he was so happy and energetic the entire time. As he was signing, he did the voices of the characters he was signing as. Like when he signed a wario poster he the wario voice and wrote “wahoo” at the same time as saying it. He’s really cool, I hope he has a great retirement
I saw him at a local con a couple months back, and he was exactly the same. He'd be signing for hours, days in a row, and yet incredibly he never lost that joy and energy for every single person there was. It was amazing meeting him, and getting to hear him speak in his panel about who he thought Mario was gave me a lot of respect for the character.
My wife proposed to me with a beautiful piece of wall art that she made. It was an 8-bit depiction of the classic Super Mario Bros. game where Mario hits the question block and she made it so that a wedding ring was popping out instead of a coin. Then in the font it was asking me to marry her. I obviously said yes because who wouldn’t?! Fast forward to last December at GalaxyCon in Columbus and we met Charles. We brought the now-framed proposal wall art and showed it to him. He was absolutely overjoyed! He was gushing all over it and asking us so many questions and congratulations galore! He then took it out of the frame and autographed ALLL over it! “You numba one!” “Yippee!” “Woo-hoo!!! Super Chris!” He then wanted to make a video with us in it showing how video games bring people together and wanted to post it on his Instagram story. He spent SO much time with us (despite a very long line of fans waiting) and made us feel like the only people in the room. It was like saying hi to an old friend. Genuinely one of the kindest individuals I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting! One of my all-time favorite memories I shall cherish for the rest of my life!
Complete aside: I’d love to see you talk more about the muppets. I could feel the passion you feel towards the Muppets and would love to hear more of your thoughts on them!
I met Charles at Rhode Island Comic Con all the way back in 2015. It was an incredible experience; he signed my copy of Mario Galaxy 2 and was so excited to do so! I hope to meet him again someday. 😊
I feel you on the muppet part Arlo. I was a kid around when Jim Henson was still doing Kermit so this for me has happened twice now. That being said I think growing up in the late 80s and early 90s as a kid Ive gone through 2 versions of voices for Mario from the cartoon show. I remember being shocked but liking it when I first heard Charles on SM64. While Its not as much of a transition for me there, he has been the voice of Mario the longest so I have nothing but respect for him and wish him well.
I had the pleasure of meeting Charles when he came to a comic con in the UK, he was fantastic, did every voice and was so much fun to speak to. Change is inevitable but Charles will always be in my heart the voice of Mario.
It's sad but normal. Everyone retires or semi retires as he is doing. He is at the retiring age. He did a great mario voice for decades. He is just getting older that is all. Thanks for the memories Charles
me too, he was my child hood I was happy and sad that he was retiring as Mario but I hope God could give him a wonderful future. at the end of Mario movie Charles Martinet (Mario's Father) said "These are my boys" I had a feeling he was going to go soon..
Having met the man, he is such a wonderful person and a lot of the role will be lost for a while... His philosophy for playing these sets of characters was just so profound, and he brought so much to that table. Thank you Charles!
Although i am still devestated with the news, at least he gave us the Mario we all know and love. I met him for the first time at Too Many Games 2021 and I met him again this year back in June at Too Many Games. Both times, we took pictures and he signed a poster and the second time, I gave him my fan drawing of Mario. He loved it
The first video game I remember ever playing was Mario 64, when I was 3 years old. I didn't know much about the world back then, but it's because of Charles Martinet that I knew what joy (or at least happiness) sounded like: "Wahoo!" "Okeydokey!" "It's-a-me, Mario!" These words (among many others, of course) were what I had the privilege of listening to whenever I turned on my N64, and I think that this Mario is a big part in helping me become who I am today. He's kind, bright, helpful, energetic, persistent, all of these things and a bag of chips. Thank you, Charles, for helping me be the person I am today. ❤
It makes sense that Arlo has such a love for the muppets, considering they really paved a way for a little blue guy like him to become his own sort of figurehead in entertainment
Charles retiring feels like something we all knew was going to happen but never wanted to admit. I’m glad I got to grow up with him as my Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi. I’m optimistic about the future and wish him the best. Not mad about the new Kermit voice, it’s more so why the previous voice actor was fired that rubbed me the wrong way.
While I knew it was going to be inevitable, I just didn't think it would happen so soon. I mean, as far as we know, Charles wasn't sick or anything, he still seems to have a lot of energy for his age... so unless there's something behind the scenes we don't know about, like Charles being more exhausted by the voice work than we would expect, then I don't know why he would stop.
I met Charles years ago at DC Awesome Con. Really cool dude, I remember standing in line and he didn't break character once. It was cool listening to him switch characters, he did a Mario voicemail for the guy in front of me and then did immediately switched to Luigi when I wanted an autographed picture of him!
I met Charles Martinet at E3 several years ago. I was working in Nintendo's booth because a game I had worked on was being featured there. Thanks to this fact I was exploring Nintendo's booth before the floor opened up for attendees, and I was standing in a short line with other workers to get a picture of myself in front of one of Nintendo's big character dioramas. Right before it was my turn, Charles approached me and kindly asked if he could cut in front, since he was short on time and had something to attend shortly. I was happy to let him, since it only cost me about 15 seconds of time but allowed me to do a little favor for the guy who had voiced Mario for most of my life. He was quite grateful and friendly. Over the course of the day there at Nintendo's booth he was in and out, meeting with workers and attendees, but always surrounded by people who were happy to meet him... and as much as I could see, friendly and kind to each one of them. That day I also ran across him while I was headed to the bathrooms and he was leaving them. I only gave a smile and a nod, since I didn't want to interrupt his day. The bathrooms at E3 are pretty awful.
I've never had the pleasure of meeting this man in person, but the interview reposted by "The Great Voices Channel" 9 Years ago is my go-to comfort video. I've been enamored by him and the type of energy and love that he brings to the world ever since I've watched it. I think said interview may have also been the one you were thinking of when you mentioned that other people did gravelly plumber voices.
I’ve met him twice now and I must say, he is just a joy to be around. He always carries that Mario energy with him anywhere he goes. As for him having difficulty doing the voice nowadays? Nah, he does it constantly at cons and it sounds 100% on point still. Athena cynical part of me worries that this was not his choice; he’s made it clear in the past that he wants to voice Mario until he “drops dead”. Seriously, there’s an IGN article about it if you look it up! I don’t even think it was that long ago. But who knows, maybe he has a health issue that worried Nintendo enough that they made a decision together to have him retire or something. I just hope he’s happy with these decisions!
I had the incredible opportunity of meeting Mr. Charles Martinet at Fan Expo Boston 2017! I got his autograph and he was doing the impressions of all the characters he voices that were on the print he was signing for me! I remember telling him how much I love Mario and that made his day! He is such a nice guy and I got a photo with him free of charge which was normally extra! Mr. Martinet’s Mario will always be by Mario and I’m super grateful I got to meet him! 💙❤️
As requested, my Charles Martinet story: I went to NYC when they re-opened Nintendo NYC as Nintendo World in Feb 2019 with my wife and brother-in-law. Martinet was there to autograph and meet fans, etc. but he also went through the line (which was wrapped all over Rockefeller Center) at one point and was high fiving his way through the line to encourage us to continue to brave the cold for the new store opening. So cool!!! ... Except I had gone to the bathroom. He high-fived my brother-in-law, but I missed him. Which was a bummer. Fast forward 6-8 hours when we FINALLY made it into the store. Martinet was still there signing, but they had long cut the line off for that - I wasn't getting my childhood copy of Luigi's Mansion signed, so that broke my heart a bit too. But during my shopping, I was in the right place at the right time - Martinet was finally being escorted to the back of the store by Nintendo World staff (which I'm not certain he really wanted, but he had already stayed way past the times they'd advertised) and there was the strangest lull in commotion. I was maybe 10 ft from Martinet and his makeshift body guards. They looked terrified that I was about to tackle him for an autograph or something, his face was pretty neutral. I just smiled and waved, unsure of what else to do. After all, I didn't wanna be *that guy* and it had to have been a long day for him. To my delight, he gave a big smile and "Wahoo!" and waved back without breaking stride and I like to think that he appreciated my lack of aggression in that moment. I'll never really know, but as everyone always says, he seemed like a really nice guy.
It has been nice seeing all the love and support shown for Martinet online since the announcement. I know in all the interviews I've seen he's always been so nice and cool.
Charles did such an incredible job, although I'm sad to see him go as the voice of Mario, I'm happy he stays as his voice ambassador! The new Mario is Mario Bros. Wonder sounds amazing!
I met Charles Martinet at a convention right before Covid hit in 2020 and he’s one of the friendliest happiest people I’ve ever met. You'd think he was more excited to meet fans than the fans were to meet him, the man yippees and wahoos in regular conversation. He is delightful.
Yup and he will be Mario in our hearts and our Childhoods Forever and he will always be remembered as one of the Nicest Person that Voiced a iconic Plumper
I've met Charles twice at conventions, once in 2018 and again in 2019. The first time I met him was absolutely delightful. He was such a beam of energy and positivity. He signed a picture for me and he did all of the voices along side the autograph, doing a small sketch of said character as he did the voice. It's my favorite autograph I own. When I met him the second time he shockingly recognized me and was excited to see me, I was genuinely so surprised. He listened to me do my best waluigi impression and we took a few photos. I've met many celebs at cons but without a doubt I will always treasure my experiences meeting Charles.
I met Charles at Too Many Games PA. Me and my SO went to his panel and he spoke with such passion, kindness, and sincerity. He is full of joy and enthusiasm. He even spoke about how, it’s true he wanted to voice Mario as a friend to kids, instead of a mean character. It wasn’t easy either, his career had a tough start. But he stayed true to himself and did it! I honestly hope that no matter what those parts of him don’t change.
When I read the news yesterday I received it quite easily and with great sadness. Yet, while I was watching your video, I started crying. I can't define Mario as something from my childhood, but as something that now is part my life. I wish Charles the best!
I met Charles at a con back in 2016. I arrived at his booth very shortly before he did and was granted the opportunity to talk with him for a bit as he set up. Charles has such a genuine presence and exudes warmth. I could absolutely tell how much love he has for this, and he was incredibly humble as well. As he signed a poster for me, he did voices for each of the characters and signed for each of them. I completely treasure the experience.
I met Charles at Salt Lake City Fan X last year. He wrote a ton of Messages and Waluigi Quotes on my brothers Waluigi Poster and did the Waluigi voice the whole time. He was funny. I will miss his voice🫡
I just met Charles about a month ago at Collect-a-Con. Everytime he met someone he did his multiple voices and said "Thank you for playing my game" in Mario's voice 🥺
It's not just Mario, he voiced all of the overall-wearing boyos and their baby counterparts... Sad to see him go, but those lines will never go away in the games we love :)
I’m fully confident that Mario’s new VA will be perfectly fine. It’s the rest of the characters he voiced that I’m worried about. Wario didn’t sound great in the new WarioWare trailer.
i think that was the narrator of the direct. i mean in the japanese direct its really obvious its just the narrator. he isn't even trying to do it in a wario voice.
I had the honor of meeting Charles back in March at a convention, and it was truly special. He had been there since around 10 in the morning and the line to meet him was so long that I decided to come back later. It had to have been about 3 or 4 pm when I came back and got his autograph, but he was just as friendly and entertaining. He really cared about his fans, and loved being Mario. I'll never forget that.
I met him at Nintendo’s NYC store. He was playing a virtual live animated Mario through the screen so it was like talking to Mario face to face (Just like the Mario Sports Mix advertisements for context). I asked him if he was murdering all those goombas and his response was perfect. He told me they just poof and respawn. Now I know Mario isn’t capable of murder. He is way too happy and silly to have ever done a murder in his life. Meeting him was so cool! Such an innocent response to asking someone if they are a murderer ever! Hopefully he will continue to attend events for Nintendo through his new role!
I'm glad he's still apart of the brand. He very much loved Mario, so it's nice to see he can retire, but still remain apart of Mario's legacy. This kind of makes me think Charles simply wanted to retire due to how taxing voice acting can be. If it was a Nintendo call, he probably would have been out of the company entirely, but he received a new position within the Mario brand, which to me sounds like something they created because they WANTED Charles around as they know how beloved he is. Regardless, Thank you, Charles Martinet for bringing love and life to very special characters. You told us we were numba one, when no one else would.❤
Oh I dunno - I think Nintendo would probably be keen to keep a positive outcome even if it were their choice to move on in term of the voice work. Most likely it’s been something they’ve jointly agreed on.
This is a big change because we're not just getting a different Mario VA, but also different voices for Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi. I'm honestly a little worried because I think only Charles could pull off voicing all four characters, so they'll all get different voice actors now and that might wind up being a big change
I feel you Arlo. I’ve been wanting to meet him too. For a moment the news showed up I thought that dream would would have to be buried but it’s not too late it seems like. I still hope I get a chance to tell him a huge thanks for being the role model in my life that I needed as a child & to this day as my favorite Video game character ⭐️
I had the opportunity to meet Charles earlier this year at a convention . I got a NES a GameCube and several other things signed by him . He was very friendly and funny guy . As a lifelong Nintendo fan I’m sad he’s retiring but happy he’s still gonna work with Nintendo and appear at future convention . Enjoy retirement Charles!always the REAL Mario in our hearts !!
I met Charles at DCC 2022 with my friend, and I told him a dream of mine "I want to be a voice actor who spreads joy like you." He smiled over and said "Just keep having fun!" I had just gotten him to give his signature with "Keep on Jumping!" on it. So I guess I'll just keep going. I'm so lucky, thank you Charles Martinet, for everything❤!
I totally get where you're coming from with that Muppets thing! As a long time Sonic Fan, Ryan Drummond was always my sonic voice, and the shift to Jason Griffith definitely took some getting used to. I never got to actually meet with Charles, but I did go to one of his panels at a convention. Easily the highlight of the whole thing! He was an absolute DELIGHT!
I had the chance to meet Charles a few weeks ago at Galaxycon with my sister. It was my first convention and it was a nightmare getting around, let alone finding my friends. But maaaan meeting Charles was awesome. Mario is my favorite character ever, I use him in every game he's in and I grew up alongside him I guess, so I let him know how much Mario meant to me and how he made him as loveable as he is. He was so humble and nice too, and hilariously wholesome, just a charming dude, really glad I met him before he retired.
When I saw Martinet at TooManyGames 2021, the interaction itself is about what you would expect: he asked how I was enjoying my time there, did a couple voices, signed something and took some photos together. But what stands out to me the most is just how MUCH he wrote on what he autographed. It was so much more than just a signature, he practically made speech bubbles for each character on the box! He truly loves what he’s been doing and loved seeing his fans
Got the honor of meeting him at Momocon last year. He was such a delight, even if I was too starstruck to really talk with him. Signed a mario figure I bought at the con, got to take pictures with him, the whole works. Something I'll always treasure😊

The end of an era. Charles is an absolute legend. I'll never forget his 30+ years of defining the Super Mario franchise and my childhood. I hope he enjoys his retirement, he's earned it. I'll miss him.
I couldn't have said it better.
I miss him already.
Agreed
@@watershipup7101 Well, it could have been said more accurately. It's only been 29 years, since Charles Martinet's voice as Mario in the CD-ROM version of Mario Teaches Typing (1994), which predates Super Mario 64 (1996). 29 years is not "30+". :P
EDIT: I'm not trying to be a jerk with that comment, don't take it more harshly than intended. :)
I really miss him....already.
What an icon, the most well known voice in Nintendo and among the top voices of the past 50 years. There are very few who wouldn't recognize it. Thanks for everything.
Charles was the voice of our childhood. When my wife and I heard the news, we had a little teary moment, saying goodbye to an icon.

I was afraid he died as soon as the news caught my attention. I'm still sad that he'll no longer be Mario. It just won't be the same without him 😔
Ikr?? I got the video notif for this and I was like OH MY GOD. At least he'll still be around :]
I know, the way they kept wording it. It sounded like a memorial.
Me too!
I find the idea that it would be Nintendo instead of like, his family, announcing his death to he really funny
He will be immortal in so many games and the hearts of so many people.
What a legendary dude. Icons like Charles only come around once every blue moon.
Are you serious? He was just a cheap stereotype
@@laladoopsy what?
I could genuinely listen to Arlo talk about the Muppets for hours lol
Also reminds me of Kevin Conroy’s Batman. He was never the ONLY Batman, but he defined a generation of Batman and, for many, was and always will be the BEST Batman. It’ll take getting used to, but at the end of the day, these are characters who are meant to live across generations and change as the audience does
Ha ha ha ha ha he is NOTHING compared to Conroy. Conroy at least gave something to the character. Martinet was just a quick cheap italian stereotype. No loss here, move on.,
@@laladoopsyIs it really a competition, though?
@@laladoopsyGo touch some grass
@@laladoopsyAh yes, because we all know the best way to honor Conroy's memory: Shaming people for liking other voice actors too. Truly what he would've wanted.
Goodbye Charles. We’ll all miss you dearly and we all wish you a happy retirement and a happy life
I saw him at comic con last year.
Same here, The Muppets are goated
Don't cry because it ended, smile because it happened
Thank you for everything, Charles!
honestly the biggest loss here is wario. mario's voice is iconic but c'mon, you can't replace WARIO.
I GOTTA WIN!!!
WAHHHHHHHHH :(
WAH
You pick...
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! :(
His voice will be missed, but I don’t think anyone could ever do Wario as good as him.
Its so sad to see him retire but I'll forever be greatful for the memories! Thank you Charles!!
Consider, too, that any Mario voice that's in the theme parks is Charles' work. That's always going to be something we can go back and visit ❤
Oh that’s awesome!
I had the pleasure of meeting Charles when he came to a comic con in the UK, he was fantastic, did every voice and was so much fun to speak to. Change is inevitable but Charles will always be in my heart the voice of Mario.
I'm glad we get to say goodbye. Life doesn't always give that chance so it feels special when you can
It's sad but normal. Everyone retires or semi retires as he is doing. He is at the retiring age. He did a great mario voice for decades. He is just getting older that is all.
Thanks for the memories Charles
I hope someday I can bring this much joy to people somehow. This man is a gift
me too, he was my child hood I was happy and sad that he was retiring as Mario but I hope God could give him a wonderful future. at the end of Mario movie Charles Martinet (Mario's Father) said "These are my boys" I had a feeling he was going to go soon..
Having met the man, he is such a wonderful person and a lot of the role will be lost for a while... His philosophy for playing these sets of characters was just so profound, and he brought so much to that table. Thank you Charles!
I’m meeting him this Saturday! I’m excited tbh, do you recall how much it was to take a picture with him/autograph?
I will forever celebrate this man. He just put in so many wonderful years and fully deserves all of the love he receives. THANK YOU, CHARLES!!!
He loved it
I met him at comic con 2015 he was so wholesome such a sweetheart
I have the upmost respect for Charles for the effort he put into making Mario so iconic
Utmost!
upmost lmfao
Love ya Charles! Thanks for making my childhood 100 times more fun!
It makes sense that Arlo has such a love for the muppets, considering they really paved a way for a little blue guy like him to become his own sort of figurehead in entertainment
The end of a LEGEND. Thank you Charles Martinet for voicing our childhoods.
Thank you Charles
Charles was one of those few people who were a part of EVERYONES childhood so it’s just really hard having to let go of an icon to your childhood
*Thank you so much for Playing my game*

You know, him being a muppet fan totally checks
He's not the man of a thousand voices but he is the man that is worth remembering.
Honestly so happy we got Luigi's Mansions 3 that showcased a lot of different Mario and Luigi voice lines.
Honestly it's going to be hard and uncomfortable without Charles.
I'm gonna miss him. No one could voice Mario better than him
Hope he does the right thing and doesn't bad mouth them now. It was time for change
Anyone could do a italian sterotype voice. Be wasnt anything
@@laladoopsyI really wanna start a week long argument with you, but I'm not gonna.
Except for Chris Pratt!
Not really. I didn’t notice a big difference with the Wonder voice so I think Mario will be fine going forward
As requested, my Charles Martinet story:
I went to NYC when they re-opened Nintendo NYC as Nintendo World in Feb 2019 with my wife and brother-in-law.
His voice will be a legacy for all Mario fans, just like me.❤
“Bye Bye, see you in my games. Wahoo!”🍄
Even though he is retiring, Charles will always be Mario to us in our hearts.
It's bittersweet, but time beckons us all, happy trails Charles!
It’s sad, but the new person seems to be doing a damn solid job to be causing so much debate.
For real i didn't even notice the voice sounded different untill i saw a video pointing it out.
I met Charles at Salt Lake City Fan X last year. He wrote a ton of Messages and Waluigi Quotes on my brothers Waluigi Poster and did the Waluigi voice the whole time. He was funny. I will miss his voice🫡
Ty Charles for being the voices of our childhoods. You’ll always be remembered as Mario. Wishing him the best. 💫
First of all, I’m glad you’re feeling a little better Arlo. Second I’m sad but I’m glad he’s still traveling.
I almost forgot he did all the voices (M,L,War,Wal). That's a lot of work!
Looking forward to hearing the new voices
Oh jesus christ I thought he was dead from the title. Im sad to see him gone but honestly im happy to see him alive
4:00 doing like a million takes to deliver highest quality Mario lines is insane dedication, Charles will be remembered as OG Mario voice
I wonder if the new voice actor has the range of Charles and be able to do Luigi and Wario as well? Only time will tell.
From the snippets we've heard from the new guy in SMB Wonder, I think Mario is in good hands. Luigi is the voice I'm most worried for
I totally get where you're coming from with that Muppets thing!
Charles is a legend and he will stay in our hearts forever 💓😢
I had the chance to meet Charles a few weeks ago at Galaxycon with my sister. It was my first convention and it was a nightmare getting around, let alone finding my friends. But maaaan meeting Charles was awesome. Mario is my favorite character ever, I use him in every game he's in and I grew up alongside him I guess, so I let him know how much Mario meant to me and how he made him as loveable as he is. He was so humble and nice too, and hilariously wholesome, just a charming dude, really glad I met him before he retired.
I met him at Too Many Games a few years ago. An absolutely great guy. And so much energy.
For me, it’ll be really hard to go without his Luigi, Waluigi, and Wario voices.
Got the honor of meeting him at Momocon last year. He was such a delight, even if I was too starstruck to really talk with him. Signed a mario figure I bought at the con, got to take pictures with him, the whole works. Something I'll always treasure😊
