The orthopedic surgeon said that it is highly unlikely that a flap tear can heal on its own with the help of physical therapy (I can almost extend my leg fully, but not completely, as it feels like there is something "caught" in the knee, but there has never been much, if any, swelling). If I had only the horizontal tear, his suggestion would be to begin physical therapy and just keep an eye on it, but the flap tear makes surgery necessary. He wants to perform surgery and take out "approximately 30%" of my meniscus. I'm worried about getting osteoarthritis as a result (I'm 61). Also, there's been quite a bit of literature lately that meniscus tear surgery is wildly overdone and, in most cases, not even necessary. When I brought this up to my doctor, he said that people misunderstood such literature, that it entirely depended on the type of tear one had. Needless to say, I'm completely confused. I was on a trampoline with my friends & I fell straight down on my feet, heard a massive pop & collapsed. My knee couldn't move at all, it had a burning sensation all around it. Once I got off the trampoline I collapsed again but before I did I put weight on the injured leg & heard multiple cracks. The pain was out of this world. So I couldn't put any weight on it without it cracking again and collapsing. Anyways, I went to the ER and they only did a X-ray on me and said it was sprained. I feel like it's worse than a sprain. It's been almost 3 weeks and still can't walk on it. 😩😭

OMG!!!! I was at a trampoline park with a friend and her nephews dec 28th. I was jumping and came down and felt like my left broke in half and I hear a pop like rubber band snapped. I couldn't get up. I crawled to the bench and pulled myself up and fell back down. My son had to come up there to take me home. He just had surgery April 11th repairing ACL and a buckethand tear from Rugby. He knew right off from symptoms I was describing it was my meniscus. I went to the doctor. Xray showed no broken bones. I was put in a full leg brace and crutches. MRI was last Friday but I freaked out and stopped it midway through it. I was rescheduled for this Friday and told I need to be sleep so have a driver. I'm still in pain that is on the inner knee and feels as if my knee is bowing inward. I won't know until Friday when I follow-up with my doctor with results from MRI!
Hi! This helps a lot. I’ve been out of work for a week, I fell down the stairs because there wasn’t any lighting at my apartment. 3rd to the last step down, or at least that’s how I remember… It’s hard for me to bend my knee when it’s under a lot of stress so I’m just looking up on the internet for right now before I go to a professional doctor. I’ve been going to a chiropractor and they said my spine is more shifted to the left, and hip was rotated but all of that has been fixed and I’m still in a lot of pain on the leg
I have a cramp in both calves hurt ankles and and this too and still doing football just ran 1,200 yards today without stopping push through the pain 💪
I think this is what I have, I did my usual 10k run 11 weeks ago and the next day had pain in the inside of my leg to the side of my knee cap, it's got a little better than it was but not much, fed up because I haven't been able to run for 11 weeks and I have been doing 10k runs twice a week for 13 years with no trouble until now, I am 46 years old
@@WinningInters i can't run on it anymore, had to stop running, it was quite depressing , I'm 48 and I can still walk loads tho and that doesn't play my knee up
Hi, thanks for the video. I tried the first two tests for my knee situation, and found that I can extend my knee all the way no problem. It's only very slightly tender when I rub beneath the patella towards the inside of knee. It's a little more tender rubbing on the big ligament on the outside of the knee. When I do the Thessaly, however, there is some soreness below the patella before starting to twist, just loading the knee with a slight bend. There is no change in pain while rotating externally with the Thessaly, but internally if I rotate all the way, the soreness on lower inside of patella increases suddenly at the very end of ROM. Do you think this could be a meniscus problem or something else? Oh, also the knee does not like to flex all the way when I squat down, but it's not a problem when I pull the knee up to my chest without any weight on it.
Thank you both for your wealth of info! I am nursing a damaged meniscus and I feel so forlorn at times. You two make me smile and give me hope. I was told today by the doc that I will be needing two knee replacements in the coming years so I'm really looking for ways to prolong the need.
It dosent hurt at all I was at a football camp and sprinting, cutting and no pain at all. I got home and the bellow my kneecap to the left is swollen a little. Hopefully I didn’t tear it again
This made my stomach turn just watching these. No way do I even wanna attempt it on myself because I know it will hurt like hell. My kneecap touched the back of my leg, and it shifted out of place momentarily to the right 3 days ago. Waiting for an mri tomorrow morning...
Hello, first of all I want to say I appreciate all of your videos and the great advice you guys give. Last week I believe I partially tore my meniscus playing basketball. I have compared symptoms and this is what seems the most likely. I have been using the RICE technique for the past week and the pain had definitely subdued but my knee still feels unstable and can be painful. I have had surgeries in the past (most recently the Mumford procedure) and am trying to avoid it at all costs. How long do you believe I should wait before I can continue playing sports again? P.S I'm a quite active 23 year old that's just trying to get back to playing basketball
I've had some uncomfortable posterior knee pain for a couple weeks. It's been uncomfortable but bearable. Today in a fitness class - just warming up - I felt a pop and can't bear any weight on my knee when it's bent. Sharp pain. I can stand on it straight. I don't have any swelling, either. But, I can feel a pop when I baby my weight onto my good leg and do a small squat. I've narrowed to meniscus but I don't have all of the symptoms posted here. Any thoughts? Really appreciate it.
***** Thanks so much for your response & for responding so quickly. I work in the fitness field & this is my livelihood, so I'm very nervous. I've been very fortunate to have avoided any serious injuries throughout my very active life, until now. I'll keep RICEing & take your advise if I don't improve. Again, very appreciative. Take care.
Dont do these tests people, if you just have a small tear it's only gonna make it worse. Wait it out a few days and if its still bad go see a doctor. Especially the first test they described it horrible, imagine your meniscus having a small tear then putting your full weigh on it......
You guys are awesome for sharing the info you do. I've used you guys to self diagnose several times now. But I sure wish you'd have some details on how I can operate as well....🤫
Do you have any ideas of treatment I would be given for a meniscus tear? I went to the orthopedic and they need an MRI to see what's wrong with it but suspect it may be a meniscus tear.
hi, do you know what is the reason i get pain on the right side bone/joint of my knee after playing football for a few minutes ? The pain is in a way which i cant bend my knee and after 48 hours it goes away and my knee goes back to 100% but again the same pain returns when i reach the 15th minute of playing football. I hope its not something serious. thanks
Hey doctors, love your videos! Also, one more question, it's Been almost 3 months after my act and meniscus repair, now my knees keeps making a weird popping voice whenever I bend my knee to a 90 degree to a straight leg. Any advice on that? If there is, I appreciate it.
Informative video thank you. Trying to find out what the problem with my knee is. Fine if I do little walking as soon as soon as I work it hard walking up hills it gradually seizes and tightens up and eventually I can barely bend it or twist without extreme pain. The lateral side of my knee and the Tibia head seems to swell and becomes very tender. If I rest for a while the inflammation subsides and I can walk again for a short distance until it all starts to flare again. I have seen a Dr who refereed me to a Physio and he gave me muscle strengthening exercises, which I have been doing regularly for the last month. I am feeling no benefit though and the pain and frequency of and intensity of pain after walking is just the same. I am 60 year old male. Thanks for any advise.
Omg! Just the thought of the first test makes me want to cry! My Dr sent me to pt, but I feel it's something worse! The only rest I can do is fully extend it.. But only in certain positions. Gotta love military insurance! Lol
I just had my second knee surgery and I can say, if your knee hurts when twisting with weight. Go in to a doc. It’s not worth waiting all you’re going to do is make it worse
How long after the injury should you do this test? Like lets say I injured myself Monday, if I tested myself Friday, would I feel pain from the trauma still or is it pain from a torn meniscus?
Hey I have a question! My meniscus failed I think and my knee was stuck bent, and I was in the hospital for over 7 hours , then they pulled my leg then there was a pop what does that means please help me I'm very scared to move my knee now!
You are the best no doubt but I wish I was watching you two cooking something instead of something always so painful. GRRRRR... Thanks for all you do you are both very helpful... Thanks...
My knee clicks and if I work too many doubles as a nurse aide, the upper-medial part of my left knee hurts badly. This went on once last year as I worked a bunch of doubles one month. Happened a second time this month as I'm pulling a bunch of doubles this month.
I had a baseball game today and I hyperextended my knee really bad. I felt a pop in the back region of my knee. Now my knee is stiff and I have limited mobility and it hurts to put weight on it. Do you think I could have torn my ACL?
After seeing and reading a lot of things about meniscus tears i’m starting to think i have one because all of these tests caused a lot of pain on my knee
My wife had done test #2 earlier after reading it on the Internet and she can't straighten her knee all the way. When she tried test #1 on your video it hurt so bad she laid back down and said she was too afraid of pain to try test 3. She has an appointment day after tomorrow at orthopedics so we will see but this video makes us think she tore her meniscus.
I injured my knee yesterday playing catch with my buddy in his backyard (baseball). I went to throw a pitch and when rotated on my planter foot, I heard a loud audible pop and so did he. I buckled and hit the ground immediately, I was able to extend/bend and put weight on the affected knee in the immediate aftermath of it happening. Since it happened yesterday I’ve been doing the RICE method until I can make an appointment with my local orthopedic doctor to determine the extent of the injury. I had a similar injury in college ten years ago when I was playing basketball at a fraternity rush event. I pivoted on my planter foot and the same thing happened, loud pop, buckle and hit the ground almost immediately. Thankfully then after getting an MRI, I just had a Grade II MCL Tear/Strain and a heavily bruised Patella, hopefully this current injury I just suffered is not worse. I have no idea what I’m going to do if I have to have any type of surgery to repair this injury, I am a working person but my employer does not provide heath insurance nor can I afford it through the ACA or the private market.
Can't see a ortho till next week. Felt a pop on the side of my knee last week. No swelling. But having some catching when I do hamstring curls at the gym and been staying around from squats right now. Any help? I can't fully extent and flex my knee. Some pain on the lateral side of the knee more towards the lower aspect and some on the medial knee. Recommend wrapping it a certain way, heat, ice, compression? Still going to the gym just being careful. Have to see what the specialist says next week. Any help in the meantime would be awesome! I think it's meniscus.. But I hope not. Lol
I did weighted hula hoop and that’s where my knee started to hurt. I believe its torn meniscus cos x-ray doesn’t show. Having a hospital appointment next week for MRI. Just praying for the best as I have been limping eversince and the pain gets worse when i walk or stand too long
Hi:) I’m a 13 year old girl, and i love playing soccer. I play with the U15 girls team in my hometown. I already have chondromalacia patella in my right knee. And i’ve been at the doctor’s office 9 times with my knee this year, because the pain keeps getting worse. And nothing is helping. But 2 months ago, april 29, at soccer practice, my patella dislocated to the right side of my right knee because i fell. So i went to the doctor on tuesday, april 30. He couldn’t see any damage to my knee. So i went back to school with extreme pain, and with a leg i couldn’t bend. But i knew there were something wrong. So i went back to my doctor on june 7. He looked pretty worried when he examined my knee. So he sent me back to an orthopedic surgeon for the 2nd time. I’ve torn my outer ligament LCL and 1 meniscus. But he refuses to do surgery. And he even told me “you’ll just have to live with the pain” and i got so fkn pissed when he said that to me. He could’ve given me crutches or something. But, no! I’ll just have to live with it. Live with pain killers. Live with pillows under my knee every night. Live with a leg i can’t use for a sh*t. And i’m only 13?! And i know i shouldn’t do it, but i googled my symptoms. And the only thing that came was “osteosacoma in teenagers”. I was about to cry, because cancer has taken so many people in my family. My great grandma died of osteosarcoma, my grandma’s sister has breast cancer, 2 of my family members who are 1 and 4 got diagnosed with leukemia, one of them is still fighting and the other one is cancer free. But luckily, it wasn’t cancer. And i know i’ll have to get surgery when i get older. It all began with a little pain in my knee. So i went to my doctor and i didn’t know the journey ahead of me.
I'm a 39 year old construction and former standout athlete. I had two doctors tell me the same thing so I decided to see a holistic doctor and use natural methods of treatment. Best of luck to you.
567Katii i don’t have it:) There’s something wrong, but no doctor can figure out what. I’ve had X-rays, bloodwork and an MRI done, but they didn’t show anything. I’m not really sure, but i think they’re gonna do an biopsy next time i go to the doctor, to confirm if i have cancer or not
If you don't notice that you got a meniscus tear, lucky you. Mine tore last year and it got stuck between knee cap and bone. I couldn't walk for shit. I couldn't even straighten my leg anymore. Doctors thought I'm lying. It was a tremendously painful experience. Then they did a scan and they finally got why I was in so much pain. Nurse didn't believe me and yelled at me, doctor said I'm making it up and/or it's only a stuck nerve, etc. The fact that it got stuck made everything so much worse. During the scan they had to straighten my left quite a bit. I was in pain for however long that MRI went on for. I was sweat drenched, screamed the entire time, and trembling by the time I got out. They believed me so little they didn't even give m e painkillers. If it were up to me, or I had the money, I'd sue them for all they are. So, the meniscus was old and degeneratively deformed, so they had to remove it. Ever since then I can't do shit. No stair climbing without massive pain, no anything. Went through physio and all. Then I discovered swimming. Helped tremendously. Without it I wouldn't be able to do anything at all. And now they are shutting down my nearby swimming pool. So gg. F my life. As if facet syndrome, fucked up groins, screwed shoulders, screwed knees in general, heavy asthma, a malfunctioning heart valve, and chronic headaches weren't bad enough at the age of 31.
I jumped over a fence and landed on my two feet. I started running and it felt like something was out of place every time I put pressure on my knee it would fall inward and I would have to sit down
Best wishes for all the injured people✌️

im i dumb ass and did the first one dont do it
scott ri what happened after that?
I got chills down my spine when I imagined doing that on a freshly injured knee. DO NOT DO IT!!!
My knee pops out of socket when I do that.
Oblivion xo That's so sucky ;-; Iu hope you feel better. 😊
Oblivion xo I think you need a mri an xray only shows bones MRI will show tears and injuries of soft tissue...they did this to me gave me a xray showed nothing but mri shower the problem!
Yeah I think I tore mine yesterday skiing🤦🏽♂️
What to follow if i have meniscus injury??
Is surgery the best opinion??
Could a symptom be that it is difficult standing/walking when sitting for a short time? And buckling? Could it put a strain on the achilles?
That intro song needs to be a meme.
I can’t even do that right now 😭it hurts so bad
I have a cramp in both calves hurt ankles and and this too and still doing football just ran 1,200 yards today without stopping push through the pain 💪
Bro if I twist my knee like that just to make sure i have a meniscus tear I'm gonna pass out cuz of pain
I tore mine last year and I always come back to this video that saved me😸
Hey do you know whats the treatment?
I think this is what I have, I did my usual 10k run 11 weeks ago and the next day had pain in the inside of my leg to the side of my knee cap, it's got a little better than it was but not much, fed up because I haven't been able to run for 11 weeks and I have been doing 10k runs twice a week for 13 years with no trouble until now, I am 46 years old
How did you get on, did you find out what it was and get back to running?
@@WinningInters i can't run on it anymore, had to stop running, it was quite depressing , I'm 48 and I can still walk loads tho and that doesn't play my knee up
HAPPY NEW YEARS THANKS FOR HELPING PEOPLE ALL YEAR
Hi, thanks for the video.
Thank you!
What ended up being your injury I think I have similar ?
What did u end up having ?
What was it?
I had an MRI and there is also mild knee joint effusion extending into suprapatellar recess and intact crutiate and collateral ligments
Hopefully I didn’t tear it again
what should I do since I can't run anymore because I would get pain in my left knee
same problem. need to go so a doc or therapist about left knee.
This made my stomach turn just watching these. No way do I even wanna attempt it on myself because I know it will hurt like hell. My kneecap touched the back of my leg, and it shifted out of place momentarily to the right 3 days ago. Waiting for an mri tomorrow morning...
My ins won't pay for an mri until I go through 30 pt appts. Ugh. Meanwhile, knee is popping out of place each time its even slightly rotated.
Like these dudes I’m a Rehab RN and they are awesome
How are you now?
What injury did U have ?
Thank you for informing about this video. I have problems doing all these test but straightening my knee I can do.
I also just found out a test to see if your knee wobbles back and forth it could be a tear and my knee easily goes back and forth.
+physicaltherapyvideo yes thank you I go in about three weeks to the doctors.
and now I've got small swelling too
Love your videos. Taking my NPTE next month guys! Wish me luck
Take care.
I just recently injured my knee, this was very helpful and will try these tests to see, but for now my knee throb just watching these
Dont do these tests people, if you just have a small tear it's only gonna make it worse. Wait it out a few days and if its still bad go see a doctor. Especially the first test they described it horrible, imagine your meniscus having a small tear then putting your full weigh on it......
If I do that last one my knee is popping out
I think I tore my meniscus Friday and watching this I knew I couldn’t do any of them without being in excruciating pain
You guys are awesome for sharing the info you do. I've used you guys to self diagnose several times now. But I sure wish you'd have some details on how I can operate as well....🤫
What if just bending or putting weight on your knee hurts?
Ok, thank you
What kind of doctor would you suggest I see or get an X-ray or MRI?
Do you have any ideas of treatment I would be given for a meniscus tear? I went to the orthopedic and they need an MRI to see what's wrong with it but suspect it may be a meniscus tear.
hi, do you know what is the reason i get pain on the right side bone/joint of my knee after playing football for a few minutes ? The pain is in a way which i cant bend my knee and after 48 hours it goes away and my knee goes back to 100% but again the same pain returns when i reach the 15th minute of playing football.
I hope its not something serious. thanks
mohamad omid I have the same problem mohamed omid ...exactly after playing football
U guys rock. This is wholesome and helpful. Thanks.
Hey doctors, love your videos! Also, one more question, it's Been almost 3 months after my act and meniscus repair, now my knees keeps making a weird popping voice whenever I bend my knee to a 90 degree to a straight leg. Any advice on that? If there is, I appreciate it.
Acl*
How are you doing now?
Lol
The third test could possibly keep me from ever going to the doctor. I can’t imagine how bad that will hurt.
Omg I love yOu two! Dream team ×D
I just had my second knee surgery and I can say, if your knee hurts when twisting with weight. Go in to a doc. It’s not worth waiting all you’re going to do is make it worse
Probably add a disclaimer that the pain may make you pass out. Do this with a friend! Don’t be me. Now I have a torn meniscus and a concussion.
I mean, if it’s so bad of pain that you passed out then you went way too far. I’m sure it hurt a bit before it got to that point.
Why didn’t you ask them?
You are the best no doubt but I wish I was watching you two cooking something instead of something always so painful. GRRRRR... Thanks for all you do you are both very helpful... Thanks...
I was running away from friends and my knee felt like it was pushed backwards and then forward and having pain but no swelling plz help
Best intro ever!!!
If i did these tests i'll find that i need new knee and new legs+complete harness and components😂
Sounds like a torn PCL if the pop was associated with posterior pain..
Thank you so much for the information!
I’m scared that I’m never going to play running back again
Elijah Carter don't be. Focus on having a solid recovery.
I’m really sorry you went through this, I hope you are back on the field now or at the very least you’re knee/leg is better
After seeing and reading a lot of things about meniscus tears i’m starting to think i have one because all of these tests caused a lot of pain on my knee
I'm subscribing just so I have an excuse to listen to the intro song more. That's fire.
Thanks guys
this helped sooooo much. i’m a gymnast and i my mom refuses to take me to an orthopedic
Yeah this test will tear the miniscus
at school I was playing soccer and then someone tripped me and I fell and my knee hit the metal post and I could barely walk for 5 minutes
King Tut 5 mins damn lmaooooo
I would like to thank you for this video
I subscribed just because of the tune :') LMAO
God I love your into! Trying to figure out what the hells wrong with my knee and found this gem.
My knee cracks when i move in some ways and ive tested that my good knee doesnt do this
So you have tear or not??
@@mohiman5242 i did this was commented a year ago and it was pretty sucky
I have no idea what I’m going to do if I have to have any type of surgery to repair this injury, I am a working person but my employer does not provide heath insurance nor can I afford it through the ACA or the private market.
the meniscus operation is scientifically proven to not work only 4 out of 100 are successful dont want to make things worst
well then start reading... do research you should know about this better then me creating all theses videos
Thank god i was so scared but i must see the doctor again first
Can't see a ortho till next week. Lol
Hey Sam, I have the exact same problem. Everything you described is literally happening to me. Did you go to the doctor? How did you heal?
Thanks
Check out PRI dude. Has alot of good info for hips/breathing/positioning
+Sam Adams thanks! I will check that out. By the way, are you fully recovered from the injury?
Y’all some Good doctors
What if when you do the first test you feel pain and a popping or shifting feeling that feels really uncomfortable
Did it happen to you?
I did weighted hula hoop and that’s where my knee started to hurt. I believe its torn meniscus cos x-ray doesn’t show. Having a hospital appointment next week for MRI. Just praying for the best as I have been limping eversince and the pain gets worse when i walk or stand too long
Fuck I'm dying
Baby MMA i feel you
thank you for the information I definitely have an torn meniscus
Thanks doc I have a torn meniscus:(
Hi:) I’m a 13 year old girl, and i love playing soccer.
Troy Mosley thank you❤️
That ortho i have now is too old to continue work, so i’ll get another ortho next year:)
you could have hypermobility syndrome - that would cause the patella to dislocate. Look it up, and ask your doctor to test you for it.
567Katii i don’t have it:) There’s something wrong, but no doctor can figure out what. I’ve had X-rays, bloodwork and an MRI done, but they didn’t show anything. I’m not really sure, but i think they’re gonna do an biopsy next time i go to the doctor, to confirm if i have cancer or not
567Katii and my patella was dislocsted by force
Found out my hiking season is over 😂
If you don't notice that you got a meniscus tear, lucky you.
I started running and it felt like something was out of place every time I put pressure on my knee it would fall inward and I would have to sit down
Thank you, you guys are the best!
This dude looks like wwe Shawn Michaels (blue shirt 👕 ) guy
I did a small fracture of my tibial plateau yes no physical therapy so happy
