When you finish the first season of the remake, you can watch the first season of the old anime (18 episodes) as it ends the same way. Episode 18 is just a recap of what happened during the first season of the old anime. It turns out that, in the old anime, the ice skating battle was only included in the second season. Which was problematic because in episode 15 of the first season Akane remembers scenes from the ice skating battle that had not yet been shown. This happened because they had low ratings as they competed with another very popular anime, so they decided to introduce the episodes with Shampoo earlier (girl with purple hair from the opening, who was very popular in the manga). That's why the ice skating episodes are only in the second season. But Viz changed the sequence of some episodes from the second season compared to what was shown in Japan, so I can't be sure if where you're going to watch the old anime will have the Japanese or Viz sequence. That's why I think it's safer for you to only watch the first season of the old anime (18 episodes). But do it only after you finish the first season of the remake. The remake is following the correct order of events in the manga.
I believe there was also a high profile kidnapping in Japan and since the title of this episode was "P-chan is kidnapped" they decided to skip the airing of the arc until the 2nd season
@TheGenreVerse Wait! In the current streaming versions and Blu-ray this was changed by.....*placing the season 2 episodes (intro and all) into the proper order in season 1* so that Akane's flashback is no longer out of sync!! I think this is the order on RUclips as well.
At least on the Italian dub of the old series, when Mikado is puzzled by femRanma crying, Akane thinks "You would be crying too, if a guy had kissed you!"
@@TheGenreVersebtw, a few weeks ago I've seen a video about the new series (mainly English version) adaptation seemingly having some changes to reflect adaptors' own agenda... They checked English and Japanese words when Ryoga fought Ranma (ep 4?) and the dub changed the meaning of Ranma being upset when Ryoga said worrying about clothes was a girlie thing (in one case he was just upset to be called a girl, in the other he seems to defend the right of men to care about clothing).
I'm not super interested in woke/non woke debates, however just in case someone might be interested in that video, search for "ranma i was right to be worried". The channel is "knight watch".

I used to love ice skating until one time, I fell down and some other guy almost amputated my thumb with his skates by accident. Thum is still there but it was one hell of a bloody mess 🤕
IIRC from the manga, some of the stuff doodled on Mikado read "Womanizer!", "give me back my girl", "idiot", "ass", etc. Tells what the people who he trains with actually think of him.
Oops! ArmiGirl90 reminded me there was another spoiler-free filler episode in season 1 of Ranma 1/2 (1989), "Pelvic Fortune-Telling? Ranma Is the No. One Bride in Japan" An interesting one-off character is introduced and gives a backstory to one of the established characters
One of the big problems this series has is that THERE IS SO MUCH OF IT, though the permanent cast stabilizes within the first 2 to 3 seasons (with someone VERY popular coming sometime after this start) the original anime run covered almost exactly half of the manga. There is a LOT of manga only content that Im wondering if they're shooting for even at breakneck speed.

Hey guys. Nice job on the reaction! Fyi, the og anime is pretty bad if you want an experience as close as possible to the manga. Let's just say it really messes up the characters...but enjoy it nonetheless!
Yes, but Ranma did really spend little time actually trying to learn, most of the time was spent in various shenanigans! For some reason you reminded me about the Super Mario Bros movie (spoiler alert for who has not seen it yet): at the beginning of the movie, Mario seems quite capable in parkour (while passing through the construction site), so when later he has to learn Peach's training course, it feels strange to me that he struggles *so much*... (And in the end, thanks to the super star I guess, Luigi pulls off similar cool moves without even training!)
I kinda have beef over the "plain jane" translation. Ranma kinda says something more harsh -- "iroke ga nai"/"iroke ga nee" (colloq). Which used to be translated as un-sexy/no sex appeal..."plain jane" doesn't have quite the same, mmm, oomph. And this insult sorta throws back to Ranma and Akane's first meeting where he proudly declares he's sexier in girl form than her😅 As for where this season ends...umm...the OG series actually originally aired it in a different order---because as I remember, they wanted to increase their ratings, so aired episodes involving a popular character (who is yet to be introduced for this season) ahead of the Skating Pair episodes. Also, personally, Azusa was more endearing in the OG. She's supposed to be an over-the-top cute-item-loving klepto. So seeing her as immature is kind of an understatement😂. In 2024, Asuza seems to be played more like an ojou-sama (ending most of her sentences with "desu wa") who is used to getting her way (spoiled). Also, enjoying your reactions! Amazing that you have spot on comments---the part where learning new stuff seems to be less embarassing (maybe even considered adorkable nowadays) as a girl compared to looking lame (un-cool) if you were a guy (although nowadays, adorkable guys also have their fans); and the part about Ranma and Akane's banter as "pulling on pigtails equals i like you" (paraphrased). You totally get it! As an old-time Ranma fan, watching new people get into it,enjoying it, having the same thoughts/comments I used to when I first watched it years ago is really awesome!
Yeah the dub does a lot better in my opinion of hitting the jokes and tone. All reactions I have seen have been the sub but I wish people gave dub more of a chance. Especially as they are getting better with time.
Thanks for the info on the translation. I wonder if this is one of those that got an AI pass, which probably (I'm guessing) did/will miss nuance? Not that a human never touched it... Just a possibility is all. Than you so much for the kind words. We're happy to entertain and occasionally inform!
The Finnish translation has him call her "mitätön" which directly translates to "insignificant", but in reference to her looks would mean that he calls her looking like nothing at all. I guess that's a suitable translation for not cute/unsexy.
@@TheGenreVerse No, not only is there a translator credited, but the rewrites found all over the subtitles are often so far removed from what's actually said there's no way an AI would come up with such lines. These are some of the worst subtitles I've seen. People have actually tried running the Japanese captions through AI translators and the result is way superior, that's not how things should be.
I have a vague remembering of one guy asking "Is this a candid camera show? Where's the camera?" after seeing femRanma becoming maleRanma in the correspondig episode in the old show.
@@TheGenreVerse He was slipping on the ice, all she needed to do was support him a bit. He enters fights for her but she does nothing. This is why I didnt like the original either. This episode feels like one way street.
Okay, so, this is a bit awkward. They moved this arc around from its original manga position, and had it in the second season rather than the first. Thus, telling you the episode count for this particular episode won't work that well because it's well out of order. By the time you get to the end of this season though, you should be safe to watch the first 18 episodes of the original.
Looking at the list of Ranma 1/2 (1989) episodes, there are only two filler episodes that you should be able to watch without spoilers after you’ve seen the (2024)season: "I Am a Man! Ranma's Going Back to China!?" The final episode is a recap of the season The first episode of the new season is, "Clash of the Delivery Girls! The Martial Arts Takeout Race". It’s important as it makes clear how accepting a challenge is to the Anything-Goes schools And what kind of a father Genma really is
From the looks of it, I don’t think they’ll b doing any fillers. They’re sticking directly to the manga, which is cool, but the filler eps were nice too as some had Ranma/Akane moments
@@ArmiGirl90 Ms Takahashi started publishing "Ranma 1/2" in 1987 so there were two-years worth of manga stories going into the anime, plus the ones that were written while the first stories were animated. The strictly-filler episodes didn't begin until the 3rd season. The problem with the 2nd season of the first anime version was the major changes they made to the manga stories. Like the "Delivery Girls" and "Phoenix Pill" ones But the filler details not in the manga added many fan favorite explanations. The most major change of all needs to be kept: The manga be damned, I want Sasuki brought in and as a regular!
@ Actually, there WAS a filler ep in the first season, (the one where Akane, Nabiki and Girl Ranma had to pretend to be Dr.Tofus fiancée to impress his mother). Yes, it’s true, some were mildly changed for the anime like the Phoenix pill, but I like that they’re sticking to the roots of it (mostly). I do have my share of filler eps I liked, where it was mostly Ranma/Akane moments, (such as the mushroom temple and the lucky panda ep with the mirror version of everyone!). What I’m REALLY hoping for, if this goes on for longer than two seasons, is the manga only cast show up! (Ex. Herb, Konatsu, Akari, Asuka, etc)
@@ArmiGirl90 Thanks for reminding me of the Dr. Tofu fiancee episode I agree about wanting to see the episodes involving Herb, et al. But it will have to be a long wait. Herb is introduced in manga chapter 246 and the others even later
They might go beyond the OG series ending, this is ep.8 but in the OG this would be ep.15 (ep.1 from season 2) They already removed a lot of filler episodes and also skipped a MAJOR character entrance which will definitely appear later. Good thing imo or else us who seen the OG would have to wait at least another 8 years/seasons for something truly new.
@@Phaeton635 I got all DVDs and in the series that character is introduce in season 1, the golden pair comes only in season 2. I never read the manga so if its different I don't know.
@@MrNo1fan Well I am telling you now in manga that character (assuming we are talking about the chinese one) debuts immediately after this golden pair arc, like their debut is the cliffhanger for the end of the arc in the original manga. In the 80s/90s anime these 2 arcs were swapped around for some reason. So if they are going manga accurate she will probably debut as a cliffhanger next week. Other things to throw out there, in manga the climax of the full body cats tongue arc is on a beach instead of in the snowy mountains. The zombie looking guy who debuts in 80s anime season 6 is introduced way earlier during the cat fist story and Kuno's loyal footstool ninja was made up for the 80s anime to replace him in that story, he does not exist in the manga and likely will not exist in this remake either. So if you liked him, sorry. The takeout race in season 2's reason and participants are also different in the manga. Also for some reason the anime dropped the Yoiko Hibiki arc, aside from that one arc there is a point in the manga where you can just pick up and everything after that point is unadapted and you've missed nothing. The sad fact is the 80s anime was a very, very bad adaptation. The less sad fact is, I like a lot of its scenes better.
the ost of the original is so much better though. Maybe wait a few episodes more and after the intro of the next big female protagonist you can watch safely... or you can skip after episode 13 straight to 25.
Mikado and Azusa are among the worst personalities of Ranma's early "rogues gallery" with his rapey womanizing and her kawaii kleptomania. I can't wait for the fight, if the quality of Martial Arts Rythmic Gymnastics was an indication, it's going to be amazingly animated.
Akane seems to be really a bad observer... not getting any clue about Ryoga-Pchan identity reached a new level here, considering Ryoga is so stupid to not even put a bandana around his neck. I've read a comment about a fan theory of Akane having understood the truth, but japanese pride doesn't allow her to admit having been tricked and at this point she just fakes. I don't know what to think about that theory.
The English dub for this reboot is horrendously inaccurate and destroyed ranmas character, all cuz they wanted to sneak in their garbage wokeness agenda any chance they could. Western localizers are trash and this reboot is more evidence of it. If you actually are very familiar with the manga and the original anime , you'd know what the hell I'm talking about.
Sorry that it's not hitting well for you. This is our first experience (other than clips of the original and hearing about it from others) with the franchise.

Thanks for the tip!
@TheGenreVerse Wait! In the current streaming versions and Blu-ray this was changed by.....*placing the season 2 episodes (intro and all) into the proper order in season 1* so that Akane's flashback is no longer out of sync!! I think this is the order on RUclips as well.
@@fenris91 Really? That's great! 😁
At least on the Italian dub of the old series, when Mikado is puzzled by femRanma crying, Akane thinks "You would be crying too, if a guy had kissed you!"
Interesting difference...
@@TheGenreVerse Just for the record, in the comments of another reactor, an user confirmed that the line in the manga was the same used in the old show, then it's the new one which has changed it.
@@LegnaiaUnderground Yes, there's a lot of censored dialogue in the remake. This episode also cuts a line from Nabiki where she tells Ranma not to worry about Sanzenin's kiss because "you're both boys, so it doesn't count". They're trying SO hard to edit out anything that can be interpreted as homophobic it's ridiculous.
I used to love ice skating until one time, I fell down and some other guy almost amputated my thumb with his skates by accident.
Thum is still there but it was one hell of a bloody mess 🤕
👀👀👀👀👀
A thumb would be a tough loss! Glad you kept it!
IIRC from the manga, some of the stuff doodled on Mikado read "Womanizer!", "give me back my girl", "idiot", "ass", etc. Tells what the people who he trains with actually think of him.
🤣
I didn't remember it, but I've read in a comment that the pigtail's girl was the 999th girl Mikado kissed.
@@LegnaiaUndergroundThat was from the original anime. That wasn't mentioned in the original manga.
21:26 Her face is the face that all of us who see Ranma, despair 😆
This episode was too good
he practices as a girl, because his girl form weighs less and is shorter, so it literally hurts less when he falls on his ass.
🧠
Wished Ranma and Akane would’ve actually kissed 😂❤
Thanks!
Azusa is cute and looks like she came out of an old shoujo manga, but her head's empty 🤣
Will be great if you get the Ranma 89 reactions after this season ends.
Once this season ends, I think you can watch the first 20 episodes of the old one
Thanks for that information! Maybe a reaction to a couple of episodes could happen...
@@TheGenreVerse even better.
With today episode, you'll get to see 14 episodes without spoilers
so did you guys drop Fate?
No... I'm hoping that will be the first of our back catalogue shows back up, and it'll be real soon. I just need to edit 2 more before starting to publish them again. We're all caught up on seasonal now! Thanks for your patience!
Also, if you're not on our discord, you should join... I'll be putting Fate 20 up there for early access sooner than later.
Poor Ranma.
Yes...
Hey guys. Nice job on the reaction!
Fyi, the og anime is pretty bad if you want an experience as close as possible to the manga. Let's just say it really messes up the characters...but enjoy it nonetheless!
Thanks for watching, for the complement, and for your thoughts on the original series.
I have PTSD from Heavenly Delusion (anime Christine can skip)[one of the highest rewatch value shows].
🤔
You'd think a guy whose entire martial arts form requires mastery of balance would be a little quicker in applying that to skating.
💯
And this insult sorta throws back to Ranma and Akane's first meeting where he proudly declares he's sexier in girl form than her😅
As for where this season ends...umm...the OG series actually originally aired it in a different order---because as I remember, they wanted to increase their ratings, so aired episodes involving a popular character (who is yet to be introduced for this season) ahead of the Skating Pair episodes.
The dub has 0 issues calling her in sexy that's weird. Usually in sub he'd just say she's not cute
That's right, it was an anime-original line. Pretty funny though.
18:16 Uhm... I guess Nabiki would just have taken the chance to get money from the guy, like menacing of calling the cops or something more evil!
She's a trip... 😆
Mikado stole Ranma 'S first kiss poor Ranma he should have kissed Akane that moment
Akane should have tried to rescue him.
Maybe she coulda...
Thanks for the tips!
Looking at the list of Ranma 1/2 (1989) episodes, there are only two filler episodes that you should be able to watch without spoilers after you’ve seen the (2024)season:
"I Am a Man! Ranma's Going Back to China!?" The final episode is a recap of the season
The first episode of the new season is, "Clash of the Delivery Girls!
Like the "Delivery Girls" and "Phoenix Pill" ones
But the filler details not in the manga added many fan favorite explanations.
Thanks!
@@ArmiGirl90 Thanks for reminding me of the Dr. Tofu fiancee episode
I agree about wanting to see the episodes involving Herb, et al. But it will have to be a long wait. Herb is introduced in manga chapter 246 and the others even later
They might go beyond the OG series ending, this is ep.8 but in the OG this would be ep.15 (ep.1 from season 2)
They already removed a lot of filler episodes and also skipped a MAJOR character entrance which will definitely appear later.
Good thing imo or else us who seen the OG would have to wait at least another 8 years/seasons for something truly new.
That major character entrance in manga happens right after the golden pair arc, so no they have not skipped it.
Thanks for the info!
11:21 in old version ranma dont eat things sweet or candies because that stuff and desserts are just for girls. :/
Dude needs a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.
the ost of the original is so much better though.
Maybe wait a few episodes more and after the intro of the next big female protagonist you can watch safely... or you can skip after episode 13 straight to 25.
Thanks!
Interesting theory for sure. I'm sure it's just for comedy though.
Ranma is so hilariously full of toxic masculinity and machismo, but you know, I don't hate him. He's a product of his environment.
😆
Yeah..I hate Mikado..he acts out of boundary...
Waaaaaayyyyy out of bounds!
@TheGenreVerse Totally fine, not criticizing your channel of course. When I got the news the dub was butchered cuz of "wokeness " I rolled my eyes and thought it was someone fishing for views but then I discovered it was seriously that messed up of a dub and I was shocked.
You both owe it to yourselves to watch the original anime, the first season at least. Much better I think on every front. Hand drawn animation to boot!
