Donald Sutherland was that rare breed of successful film actor totally committed and generous to the craft. I can't say I was shocked on hearing his passing - he was 88, after all - but that doesn't make this great loss to the dramatic arts any easier for us fans who take such joy from his innumerable great performances. Sutherland's peerless talent will be sorely and forever missed!
An interesting story about Donald as follows. He was in London in January 1984 and decided to go to the Wembley Conference Centre to see fellow Canadian Kirk Stevens play Jimmy White in the semi final of the Masters Snooker tournament. He got there very late and the first live frame of snooker he ever saw was Kirk’s 147 maximum break. It was a rare occurrence back then and only the 3rd ever to be done on t.v. He must’ve thought it was always like that. RIP.
First saw him in Invasions of the Body Snatchers. Excellent movie. I also appreciate him as the father in Sense and Sensibility (Kiera Knightly). He had wonderful acting career doing what he loved apparently ❤ May he RIP
Thx God for that. He was as phoney as u get ad tv presenters go. Irish born and raised with a fake English accent and a toupe, also well known he had that
Such a great actor. He played a lot of fantastic roles. He was real in every role he played. From Atilla in Novecento to Oddball in Kelly's heroes. So sad he's gone. R.I.P Donald!
Why has this wonderful interview been edited by the BBC? This happens more times than not. Don't get me wrong, I am happy you shared it, but just wondering why not release the whole interview in its entirety?
I'm in the US, and whenever I wake up in the morning and scroll through my morning YT feed and see some random celebrity video on this channel, I know that random celebrity is no longer with us.
1990: DONALD SUTHERLAND on EARS, EYES and not being the GUY NEXT DOOR | Wogan | BBC Archive 1602pm 21.6.24 1900 is my fav film he starred in.... mash is ok.... erm....................................... i think you should all go and watch 1900 if you can (without wanting to go walking round the kitchen in your mum's high heels.... every 5 mins)....................................
One of the true greats. He will be missed
Surely one of the nicest guys around, you cannot fake such sincerity.
Kelly's Heroes will always be my favourite film. Thinking positive vibes for your family.
Have a little faith.
I only want to hear positive waves, Woof, Woof!

How on earth did this guy not win an Oscar?
It happens just look at Peter Otoole
Donald Sutherland won a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Well, simple: the academy is a joke
What a legend. RIP.

Don't Look Now, Kellys' Heroes and Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, amazing movies and amazing performances.
A kind of genuine guy and it fed into his performances. You just went along with it.
RIP legend.

Also RIP Wogan! They don't make presenters and chat show hosts like him anymore.
Thx God for that. He was as phoney as u get ad tv presenters go. Irish born and raised with a fake English accent and a toupe, also well known he had that
I think Norton has taken the reigns pretty well but youre right its not quite the same. Wogan had this great charisma
Yes brilliant in every role and a true gentleman R.I.P❤🇬🇧
I miss Terry too!
Well said, he was a natural interviewer - very sadly missed.
Was so good in Klute with Jane fonda.
He was also in a very weird, time capsule movie called Joanna I recall. (1968)
Loved him in Animal House too. And Invasion of the body snatchers.
He seemed extremely intelligent. Such extensive knowledge. Travelled all over the world. Seems like a classically trained actor. R.I.P. 🙏
Donald has a very contagious smile, and he could make any topic sound interesting.
Such a legend! A truly versatile actor who did it all - war movies, drama, horror, comedy, the lot. RIP!

I will miss you terribly❤
You are luckier than you know. Enjoy it, like a Donald Sutherland-Wogan...performance .... there are very rarely second chances❤

Amazing actor who was a unique character.
The Eagle Has Landed was my favorite movie with DS.. Also great to see him in Kate Bush's music video CloudBusting.. He will be sadly missed
6 degrees of separation is a hidden gem of a movie. Donald was brilliant in it.
I haven't seen that movie yet. Thanks for the mention.
The best offer 2013 his character was great too
"Where are you from son ....... ..... never heard of it"
I used that at a live event. The guy was from New York.
Sutherland was always brilliant but gotta say Wogan is such a legend too
God , remember the days when chat show guests were real talent.
Ordinary People struck me as very true .❤
*too 'And every time it rains, he's here in my heart...' Cloudbusting, Kate Bush.

Anyone saw Day Of The Locust? He was powerful.
There's no one on screen who has looked as menacing, scary or creepy as DS!
I remember him, in an early British film as a baddie
Another great gone 😔
What film is he talking about ? Three in the morning ?
He’s 55 here.
Cute Casanova!
