Excellent video. I have an EOS M6 (original) and am debating whether to step up to the EOS R or the M6 MK II ( I know this is an odd comparison since by nearly every metric the R6 is superior) so your video was EXTREMELY helpful. I have all the Canon EF-M lenses already so when I look at the investment it would take to go to the R (I am NOT a Pro, I just love photography) the M6 MK II looks better and better. Your observation on the "out of the camera" colors from the M6 Mk II, was particularly surprising and helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time!
It certainly is a great camera when paired with the Sigma prime lenses. I also like the Nikon Z50 because it can use any of the professional Z series lenses.
Thank you so much for your kind comments! I’m actually a subscriber to your channel based on your M6 MKII series and a big fan. You do great work as well!
Waffle Square, oh that’s funny, thanks. You saved me from buying an eos r. I have been super happy with the M6, but I do have gear acquisition syndrome, which I’m constantly battling. I’m often buying, and researching gear, when I should just be out creating and enjoying the gear I have.
I bought the M6 because I thought it a better bet for my work and at a lower cost. I use it with all my EF lenses and the 18-55 kit lens which is far better than the other. I also use a power bank with the dummy battery kit plugging the USB into the power bank instead of the mains adaptor. Use a UURig cage and attach the power bank using a phone clamp. I think that it is a better camera than the R. We will have to see what the R5 can do.
@@PVMMAC Yes mk11. I just use a cheap #powerbank bought at a discount shop with a dummy battery set which has USB plug connection for it's mains power supply connection so that you can plug into the power bank instead. I can also plug it into the USB power port on my desktop when taking pics from my office window.
Great comparison, I'd love to see the a comparison with the EOS RP as both that and the M6 ii cameras are in the same price bracket. I like the RP and the EF to RF - ND filter adapter behind the lens for wide angle time laps, It is a nice to have for time laps video with a longer exposure to get that blurry people moving affect. Then the M6 ii has the speed booster but no behind the lens ND filter.
The m6mk 2 is the winner for video. the rp has the same cripple 4k crop and loss of autofocas as the m50. If you want to shoot 4k, pick the m6mk 2 over the rp
BTW - I actually took notes as to which images I prefered and I thought you must have be switching the R and M6 for the different shots to avoid confirmation bias. Out of the 9 scenarios I prefered B four and a half times (I thought one of them was a tie - I could not say which was better). I was really surprised that you had NOT switched things up - I thought I was picking the R each time! Great Job!
@@wafflesquare really the only upgrade for video I see would be the r6. If staying canon. But thats nearly 3 times the price of the m6. I have the m6mk2 paired with sigma 16 1.4 and also have the r... There's a SLIGHT difference on my phone..... Not enough to upgrade and bypass the r6.
I have the Sigma 16 and 30 and they are awesome. I have no intention of upgrading either my M6MK2 or Z50. Family videos, kids sports, and RUclips don’t need anything more for me.
If you don't bring down the sharpening on that, it will be just over sharpened and be less organic. I think it is on 4 points and it actually looks smartphone sharpening. The maximum sharpness i find to be good is just on 2 points.
Not on RUclips. The point of this video was to see if you can tell the difference in 4K video between the two cameras once RUclips has compressed the file.
Great video and info. But.... R had much more DR and also you used the neutral LUT. You lost a lot of info in the M6 videos especially in the highlights and shadows. It was clear as day the first second you see the first video that cam A is the R... Then again, if you just use RUclips.. then it's not different enough to spend that extra $$
I can totally see the difference between the two mainly because the eos r has high-quality glass witch is $1200 and then the M6 mark 2 has a $300 glass on it. just look at the mountains, for example, look at the outlines of both of them and you can see that A is way more detailed because of the high-end glass vs B everything is kind of faded away when it comes to the outlines and does not have that much detail when you look at them side to side.
I have both cameras. The EFM 15-45 is not a good lens. I gave mine away to a friend of mind. Use the Sigma 16mm or 30mm or the Canon 32mm for a more fair comparison. Also video is not as demanding as photography on image quality. Photographs would have provided a better tool for comparison.
I don’t recall him mentioning anything about superior clarity on the m6ii. He merely said he liked it better. Image quality should be significantly better on the more expensive cam, that goes without saying.
Could you compare ISO performance? That’s my main gripe with the m50 for low light photography. I don’t like pushing past 1600 with people. The grain in the skin is just too much even from ISO 500 sometimes. Can you upload sample raw files in a side by side like this?
Shoot in log and add a canned LUT and never finish color-grading and this is what you get. Apples to apples (standard profile to standard profile) would have been a truer test. This is just smoke and mirrors. I own and shoot both cameras and while I don't own the Sigma 70-200, I do own the Canon EF 70-200 2.8L II and have used it on both cameras. Run another test. This one is totally bogus. If done correctly, they are virtually indistinguishable from one another.
Yeah, the blur becomes very obvious from 00:03:55 . But it looks worse than it should do - maybe IS/Enhanced IS were turned on? That will add a crop to the video, making the image even softer.

The main advantage the m6mk2 has over the eos r is no crop in 4k
Kevin I totally agree. Both the M6MK2 and the Nikon Z50 have that advantage as well as 4K video files that are a pleasure to work with when editing.

Try FINE DETAIL picture profile on the EOS R. The color of the footage will blown your mind.

Photos were not the point of the video. 4K video quality after RUclips compression was clearly stated in the beginning.
Honestly I don't understand how you couldn't see the difference in clarity. When did you last go to the optician? :D
The EOS R clearly had a greater dynamic range. The EOS R retained both highlights and shadows far better than the M6ii.

I don’t recall him mentioning anything about superior clarity on the m6ii. He merely said he liked it better. Image quality should be significantly better on the more expensive cam, that goes without saying.
Standard is too oversaturated on the M6 mark ii I like neutral or faithful on the canon cameras

Nice video! With a new daughter, I've also been looking into both these cameras and may be leaning towards the full frame R, have you sold your EOS R?
Hi Richard. Yes, I sold it on Gear Focus. I now have two M6 MKII cameras.
