@@ChickenPopGames its like with eyes... some people see differently well, need glasses or have problem seeying colors correctly. Same goes for the ears. After setting up my EQ on the Maxwells i was able to hear enemy's positions twice as clear, from further away with complete spatial awareness, compared to my beyerdynamic mmx 300 2. gen with soundblasterx 6g. The Max's took my K/D to a completely new level in Escape from Tarkov Arena. I doubt any Headset with drivers smaller than 90mm can compete with the Max's. i have the astro a50 gen 4 they are being a pain lately maybe cuz they are a couple years old. i want to upgrade. the thing about the x i like is that its pc ps5 and xbox and even bluetooth.
Great video as always mate, good to see the pros and cons of both headsets. Really interesting to hear the differences on the mics. Keep up the good work ❤
I had both along with the Nova Pro Wireless and only kept the A50X. After tuning they were the best overall for comfort, sound and microphone quality to me. I did put the Wicked Cushions Freeze on mine though so that may have helped. Sad though that the Astro name has mostly been removed from the headset now that Logitech acquired them. I only see the Astro name in one place on the box and absolutely nowhere on the headset or base station.
Nice video! I just ordered a astro a50x, because i got both a xbox and playstation and this hdmi switch could be perfect for my situation. If i like the astro, then i will sell my maxwell's, because i can't get that headset to fit my head properly unfortunately. I tried several headbands and earpads for this headset, but none of those could make me want to wear to headset for a long time. I got a big head and I always felt the pressure from the standard headband and the wicked cushions one even on max settings. With the standard cushions i also always touched the drivers of the headset the whole time. So if the astro a50x is going to be more comfortable and won't sound alot worse i'm probably gonna keep it, because i noticed comfort is pretty much as important as the sound especially if you play for long sessions. And that simultaneously Bluetooth is also really nice
Such a great shout, thanks for watching. I also believe comfort is just as important too, I think I’m lucky as the Maxwells fit my head well. Let us know how you get on as it will be really interesting to know which headset you keep. 👍🙏
@@ChickenPopGames i tried the astro a50x and they were good, but these ones actually also didn't really fit my head properly. Even on max extension i felt pressure on top of my head. Soundwise they were also worse than the Maxwell and i always had to go to the station to switch the source or switch on the headset the itself, it didn't work with the remote anymore. And since i'm not always playing with the headset that was another contra point. Overall it's a good headset, but i decided to keep the maxwell's for now and i kind of good used to the fit by now. I also tried the steelseries nova pro wireless again after some time, but the problem was when i played with them on xbox the mic was very quiet every time for some reason even tho it was the xbox version actually. I will wait for black friday to see if there is gonna be some good sale on some headsets, but I'm actually probably just gonna stick to the maxwell's.
Nice review. I'm leaning more towards the Astro A50X, mainly because of the exceptional mic sound quality, and the fact that it's better for competitive gaming. The main things I don't like about it are the docking station (as I only do competitive gaming on my Xbox) and the price. If they made it platform specific like Turtle Beach and others do, got rid of the docking station and charged £100 less, then I'd be all in. A few other reviewers have mentioned this as well including The Techne.
I agree that they should make an alternative without the Dock, it would definitely sweeten the deal. Really appreciate the comment, let me know if you get it and what your thoughts are. 👍🙏
@@ChickenPopGames I would love to, but the only way I'd buy one is if it's on sale. I can't justify paying for a headset that costs as much as a console! Lets hope they do a simplified model at an affordable price.
Hey man, honestly enjoyed the video more than a lot of the other reviews I've seen. I am torn, I have had the 2017 A40s with the mix amp since 2019 and they are still kicking. I have really enjoyed the sound of this headset and I am on the fence of jumping ship to the Maxwell's. The A50x seems like the perfect upgrade if I enjoy how the A40s have treated me, especially that new microphone. I have seen so many reviews explaining how good the Maxwell's sound music wise, and I am super interested in them because of it. Made the decision easier but harder watching this and you picking the Maxwell lol, don't know how to explain it
Really appreciate the comment, It really depends on your needs, I would have kept the Astros if it wasn’t for the price, I also listen to a lot of music so the maxwells suited me better. If you are an FPS gamer with multiple consoles I’d recommend the Astros, but it you play all sorts then go for Maxwells. They are both great headsets. 🙏👍
@@ChickenPopGames Yeah I think I am about to place an order on the Maxwell. I play quite a few genres of games and listen to a lot of music. All of it really on my PC. Appreciate the help for sure man
idk about the sound on both of them but i have owned a pair of astro a50 older gen i think and they are light and have good sound BUT the flimsy plastic on top broke very easily and they still havent changed the design.
Great review. I would add that the Maxwell has a present in the software that could help with footsteps. For me you can't beat the sound quality/ versatility of the Maxwell's.
I don't hsve the logi. But I do hsve the maxwell. And I play escape from tarkov. I'm 100% hearing footsteps before my friends and even able to pinpoint their location. Maxwell also comes with Dolby atmos license which gives the dobly 7.1 surround. Generally a paid service. I will admit, I've had software issues but they are fixed with with a quick reset. Odd quirk. As for the mic itself, it's not crystal clear like say a blue yeti. But it's very good. The ba kground noise canceling works well also. I can watch RUclips on my phone and the mic not pick it up. The headset is heavy. No joke. But your head adjusts very very quickly. And it doesn't squeeze your head. So assuming my issues are a one off, I would buy this headset again.
I have the a50x right here, right now. And the sound is super mediocre. I have not tried the Maxwell, but I have a pair of beyerdynamic dt770 pro as my daily driver and the a50x doesn't even come close to these. SO I can't possibly imagine a basic gaming headset like the a50x getting close to maxwell either. The mic on the a50x is AMAZING though, but the sound... super mediocre and typical bad gaming headset sound.
Once you updated your Maxwell and set up your personal EQ Preset... the A50X will be nomore fun to listen to anymore. Spatial sound is brutal on the Maxwell, after you set up the EQ for your personal needs. It sent my MMX 300 2. Gen & SBX 6G into retirement, easily. I am competitiv shooter player since mids 90's, and can not recommend the Maxwell enough. EDIT: I would go for max possible soundquality, instead of a few more features. The Max's internal DSP is crazy, no station needed, and boy does this Headset get loud in wireless mode... even louder than MMX 300 2. Gen wired & SBX 6G set to high gain. Beware of running the Maxwell via USB connection, then it gets another crazy three times louder... lol.
@Nebujin383 omg you are making me more excited to try the maxwell lol. Also, I have been using the mmx 300 2nd Gen for 4 years now. It would be very interesting to compare them with the maxwell when it's arrive next month
Liked the review mate I’ve just ordered the maxwells get them tomorrow. I play a game called dead by daylight going to see if they’re a massive upgrade from my articus 7p if not I’ll send them back. I’ve hear great things about the music quality if it’s as good as they say I’ll probably just keep them as they can do everything. I’ve ordered Hifiman Sundaras as well not for Gamming just for music got them for £150 off Amazon brand new . Also one thing to note if you buy the Xbox version that can be used on ps5 just put the usb into PC mode . So I would pay the extra £30 .
The Maxwell is incredible, I love mine and have kept it, in fact I don’t use my wired setup anymore which cost a little more 😅 That’s really cool’s about using the XBOX version for all, thanks for the info. 🙏
Hi, thank you for this video. I have ordered maxwell audeze yesterday, thank you for this video. I returned my steelseries arctis pro, for some reason when it gets too loud you can hear static noise. I am so excited to try maxwell, I also had astro before and I had issues with it unfortunately, even the software update was a pain . :(
Correction: The Xbox Version of Maxwell works on PS5/PS5 Pro in PC mode. The only downgrade is youll have to increase the volume a bit more vs Maxwell in PS mode that has volume boosted [was told by employee on reddit] Otherwise they both identical, and Sony version of maxwell doesn't have any console integration [like say when you change volume to see it on screen] So xbox model on PS5 and PlayStation model on PS5 will behave identical Its same story like with SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro, the xbox version is the universal version, while the PlayStation version is just PS+PC
Then the Maxwell wins, easily. 90mm Planar Drivers are something else, a completely different world compared to the 40mm drivers of the A50X. The surface on the Maxwell membranes is more than 4x bigger, compared to the A50X. The Max's have a frequency range from 10hz to 50000hz, and you can hear that in the bass... where the A50X is limited to 20hz to 20000hz. You wont get this level of audio quality, resolution or hear such a deep bass on the A50X, ever. Plus the Maxwell supports 24 bit/96 kHz in wireless mode, where the A50X is limited to 24 bit/48 kHz. The Maxwell also features Sony's Bluetooth LDAC Codec!
How does the maxwells do with netflix had the old a50s and liked them so i am on the fence, also if i get the xbox version will it work on my ps5 aswell thanks.
Thanks for watching, I just checked, it did used to have timestamps but for some reason they have gone. Ile sort it out, really appreciate the feedback. 🙏
Nice vid! Once again, maxwell win outside of competitive games. It's sooo annoying that every so told "Gaming" headset are actually "competitives games" headphone. I wish brand one day will be more clear about their product and remember their is people playing competitive game only once in a week or month.
The Astro A50x are king for me. Not only do they have great audio they are comparable with all three systems and support both Dolby Atmos and 3D audio.
Hey man are you sure that you can run the A50X with the PS3? Did you tried it by yourself? If yes, PLEASE do some tutorial for that. That would be awesome!
You would only be able to pass through the sound via the HDMI so you won’t be able to use chat. I’m gutted as I don’t have the headset anymore. I had to give it back to my brother and he has sent it back to Logitech. 😢
I heard maxwell not goon in games, like in music is good but some ppl blame it for games and also is wired maxwell better than wireless? And what about asmr?
I’m a top 250 in cod. I really need a good headset for footstep audio because I’m currently on the black shark v2 wired. For footstep audio are either of these better than my current and if so which one?
id say for your purpose the a50x would be better, if you want wireless. If you consider wired at this price point, try consider the mmx 300 pro from beyerdynamic if it fits your head or the new hyper x cloud headset if it has to be cheaper.
On the set up it doesn't show the a50x being plugged into a monitor. Can I have it plugged into the base station and a ps5 and pc on different monitors then just change audio depending on what one I'm using? Or is the articas Pro the only head set that does that?
The base station is plugged directly into the PC, you then can plug HDMI from PS5 to Base Station and then monitor, you can then switch between the PC and PS5, you can also use bluetooth at the same time. I hope this answers it for you?
So it does have to plug into a monitor. Makes it useless to me as I have my pc and Ps5 on different monitors. Cba to change plug from monitor to monitor each time. Arctis Pro it is despite how much I hate Steelseries products 😞Thanks for the reply @@ChickenPopGames
I’ve had the headset for 3 days. And only get a headache. No matter what you turn off and put down. It’s RUSHing all the damn time. It stays the same loud all the time. Unless you also adjust to hear your voice. Then the noise is 4 times as loud. Does anyone have a solution. How can this be fixed? Even if the dock has no power. The headset is noisy.
Hi, I will try to contact Logitech support for you and see what they say and report back, I’m thinking it’s a faulty unit. So is it always the same volume regardless of adjusting volume?
Hi, I just wanted to ask you do you know you can connect them directly to your TV like the odd ones and getting sound when you watching movies from your TV? Could you let me know please? Thank you.
This is a great question but sadly I don’t have the Astros as I’ve had to give them back to my brother. I will definitely include this next time. People have mentioned online that you have to use the movie apps on the PS or Xbox as the base station doesn’t support eARC. I’d say this seems correct. 👍
I own Maxwell and A50X, I prefer A50X for non-competitive. Maxwell sound quality is better than A50X sound quality, but the gap isn’t as big as, say, A50 gen3 -> A50X. What really swings me to A50X is the comfort, they are 60% of the Maxwell weight and they also have more comfortable earpads (unless you have big ears). Maxwell hurts my head after a couple hours and the earpads are stiff. Sounds great though.

I just got the a50x last night. Coming from the steel series arctis nova pros. I will say the Astro sounds better than them. I would definitely say the a50x seems low. It’s about 60 percent of the nova pros full volume. I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong but they are not loud to me. I want to give them a chance because they are clean and matches my all white pc setup. But I may take a look into the Maxwell’s. I have the stealth pros coming in Monday. I may just cancel now before they get here. But is there something I have to do to get these things louder?

So I went into PS5 and the option for PS5 3D Audio is available and works on Maxwells although you cannot use the PS5 equaliser like the PULSE 3D can we just need to rely on the phone app for equalisation. I may do a short soon which will compare on/off. Hope this helps. 🙏

I really can't decide between the maxwells or A50x. I like everything more about the a50x but I keep hearing the audio is far superior on the maxwells. Is the jump really that big or is it just a 10/20% increase, what about when EQ adjusted? I don't know if it's worth giving up simulatenous audio, better mic, better comfort. Thoughts? I'll be using them for FPS and more casual games and probably just youtube videos, no music.

I agree i have both and the sound and voice on Maxwell is way better. I can hear footsteps better with maxwell

Great video as always mate, good to see the pros and cons of both headsets. Really interesting to hear the differences on the mics.
Keep up the good work ❤
Thanks JonnyB, really appreciate the support 🙏
I had both along with the Nova Pro Wireless and only kept the A50X. After tuning they were the best overall for comfort, sound and microphone quality to me. I did put the Wicked Cushions Freeze on mine though so that may have helped. Sad though that the Astro name has mostly been removed from the headset now that Logitech acquired them. I only see the Astro name in one place on the box and absolutely nowhere on the headset or base station.
Great point about the Astro branding, never really thought of that. Glad you like them, I thought they were great. 👍
maxwell has a better sound quality than the astros ...
I found the maxwells the best for directional audio, guess everyone hears differently, but I found them amazing
Bro has XXXL ears
Great overview, still got mine and happy! 🙏
@@ChickenPopGames agreed. I was even considering buying their 900$ gaming headset.
Great review! I have just ordered both headsets and I can't wait to try them out!
Honestly, I wish I could have kept both, real jealous. 🙏👍
If the review was good you would have bought one clown
ordered both a50s and maxwells same time and the a50s went back and it wasnt even close for me. I play a lot of tarkov.
Why so??? Just ordered my maxwells Was thinking about ordering the a50x at the same time to just compare.
The Maxwell is incredible, I love mine and have kept it, in fact I don’t use my wired setup anymore which cost a little more 😅
That’s really cool’s about using the XBOX version for all, thanks for the info.

did you have the white one or the black one?
@@Hito-Hito-no-Mi-Model-Nika black one! :)
Correction: The Xbox Version of Maxwell works on PS5/PS5 Pro in PC mode.
The only downgrade is youll have to increase the volume a bit more vs Maxwell in PS mode that has volume boosted [was told by employee on reddit]
Otherwise they both identical, and Sony version of maxwell doesn't have any console integration [like say when you change volume to see it on screen]
So xbox model on PS5 and PlayStation model on PS5 will behave identical
Its same story like with SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro, the xbox version is the universal version, while the PlayStation version is just PS+PC
I wish the a50 had a input switch button on the base
All I care about is the sound.
@@Nebujin383 i’m going to have to look them up thank you.
Humans can only generally hear from 20-20000hz just sayin
Question. If I am not mistaken the HDMI port supports 4K 120hz... So if I get a 4K 240hz monitor than this headset for PC is obsolete?
The PC display doesn’t run through the base station, you just plug it in via USB. You will be fine running your 240hz monitor and PC with the A50x 😊
@@ChickenPopGames Thanks man. You are golden...
If you can, use DisplayPort out of your PC instead of HDMI.
I’ve had to replace my Astros four times because they have weird audio glitches or crackling noise not good at all. Maxwell no issues.

Thank you so much for the support, sadly I don’t sorry as I don’t play that game, you have given me ideas for future videos though. 😃
Nice vid! Once again, maxwell win outside of competitive games. It's sooo annoying that every so told "Gaming" headset are actually "competitives games" headphone. I wish brand one day will be more clear about their product and remember their is people playing competitive game only once in a week or month.
Thanks for watching, really appreciate your feedback.
The Astro A50x are king for me.
Not only do they have great audio they are comparable with all three systems and support both Dolby Atmos and 3D audio.
I want a50s without a mic will be awesome af!
This would be a brilliant idea, even if we could just remove it that would be a plus.
Did you try the (default) EQ setting for footsteps?
Thanks for watching, yes tried default on both. Have you purchased one of these headsets?
Hey man are you sure that you can run the A50X with the PS3? Did you tried it by yourself? If yes, PLEASE do some tutorial for that. That would be awesome!
You would only be able to pass through the sound via the HDMI so you won’t be able to use chat. I’m gutted as I don’t have the headset anymore. I had to give it back to my brother and he has sent it back to Logitech. 😢
I heard maxwell not goon in games, like in music is good but some ppl blame it for games and also is wired maxwell better than wireless? And what about asmr?
Hi, I think it’s great for games and music, I’ve not really used them wired to be honest.
@@Jodor-- ahh, I get you now, you can plug usb for audio to PS5 from the hub. So you would have hub-usb to PS5-usb. That should work 👍

Unless you also adjust to hear your voice. Then the noise is 4 times as loud.
Does anyone have a solution. How can this be fixed? Even if the dock has no power. The headset is noisy.

This is a great question but sadly I don’t have the Astros as I’ve had to give them back to my brother. I will definitely include this next time.
People have mentioned online that you have to use the movie apps on the PS or Xbox as the base station doesn’t support eARC. I’d say this seems correct. 👍

Is the jump really that big or is it just a 10/20% increase, what about when EQ adjusted? I don't know if it's worth giving up simulatenous audio, better mic, better comfort. Thoughts?
