    Thanks, I have both and love them just the same. ❤️ The 146 is easier to handle though - when writing for longer periods of time. Both hold more or less the same amount of ink. Great review! 😉

    By far the BEST comparison between these two pens. Having the other models for perspective was brilliant! Convinced me to get the 149 :)

    I really like there fact that you compared these two pens. One of the graduates of the college where I taught send me a 149 (1992), but I have never held the 146. Interesting. I always appreciate your reviews.

    Where are you from? I‘am a german native and I can verify your pronouncing of the pen names are absolut flawless.
    I own both pens too. For longer writing sessions I prefer the 146 over the 149. But I like the nip of the 149 more, especially the newer two-tone nips looks more luxury to me.

      @@Scrivelynotes Ohh I totally love it!!! I was concerned with the width of the grip but now I am already used to it and I can't be happier with my 149, the M however is more of a broad so I am thinking of maybe changing the nib for an F or EF. Do you consider your EF very wet??

    • @Scrivelynotes
      @Scrivelynotes  3 года назад

      @@rodrigodiaz1558 nice to hear! Yeah, I think most MB write rather wet, and so does my EF. I always pair it with drier inks, otherwise it is too wet for my liking.

    & a Happy New Year to you, too, Michael - I trust you had a pleasant family Christmas, my friend !!
    I do own earlier versions of both of these fountain pens - both in black (& yellow gold accents, tho' the 149 has a two tone nib; the 146, monotone yellow gold) - early '90's editions. I also managed to pick up a burgundy 146, with yellow gold accents, & again, two tone nib ~ 1998. All are previously owned, but fantastic writers, obviously well looked after. They are my favourites to use from MB, because they fit my large hands, very well. Not surprised at the modern price tags for these fine writing implements - but then the quality in their build - at least with the vintage models, is superlative. Nice to see a comparative overview of two delightful examples - & I cannot wait for your comparison between MB's & Pelikan's flagships - enjoy 2020 !! :D

    The 146 is a much more practical size and weight for most people. The 149 also has a cap that takes ages to twist off.

    • @Scrivelynotes
      @Scrivelynotes  4 года назад

      In my video, the difference in getting the cap off in between 149 and 146 is neglectable. But I am sure you have seen this.

    In other words .... add 40% to the thickness of the 146, double the size of the dome and the nib and you have a 149

    • @Scrivelynotes
      @Scrivelynotes  2 года назад

      well. yeah. sort of. Guess you can argue the same for the whole Pelikan range then. Even cars. ;) . So not sure how meaningful this is, as the purpose is exactly to have different sizes for different preferences, as the different sizes come with a wildly different experience.

    • @crissignori7482
      @crissignori7482 2 года назад

      @@Scrivelynotes The idea is simply to get a handle on the physical dimensions, then how that translates into the writing experience is what is most important obviously.

    Actually gift-giving to professors is not an American student tradition. Thank you notes: yes. But Asian and students from parts of the Middle East tend to give gifts. Our ethics preclude us from accepting expensive anything other than a nominal gift from a student. At least at our institution, accepting a gift from an alumnus is not considered to be unethical. Since my title now is Professor Emeritus of Business Ethics and Law, I hope you know I tried to follow that guidance. Early in my career, I witnessed a department leader get caught in an ethical dilemma, and he had vetted it with several of us. In Asia then, the tradition carried with it an expectation of a return favor if needed. We saw a little risk because the graduate providing a trip to our department head was one of our best graduates. He as exceptional. However, about a year later, his younger brother had failed most (if not all) his classes and had been expelled. The family expected our department leader to let him back in school. Of course, that was not even within our power. Nevertheless, they really did not communicate with us again. (The Montblanc 149 was actually a gift from an alumnus for whom I had done some consulting.) K

      Thanks for the elaborate background. Just to be clear: I was not suggesting anything unethical to be going on here.

  • @ssnoc

    Buying a Montblanc pen is like playing a game of 3 card Monty - they continually change the names of the same pens and how they engrave them - It’s no wonder so many knock offs exist, there seems to be no continuity in anything they do at Montblanc - They are actually encouraging knock-offs and reducing their own brands credibility = poor management.
