Your bassist is insane. This whole band is insane. I love this music, don't ever stop!
kinda look like andrew tate though
@@lucastamenov9615 don't offend this great bass player like that
@@antonchigurh2514
Seriously. Those are fighting words. NEVER insult someone else like that. 🤦♂️
He's really giving that bass an intense workout!
The first time I heard Giant Steps I was astonished, so I played it to my very young children on long car journeys so they would grow up to be hip, and possibly also hep, but certainly cats of some kind. After learning to read, the smallest child was equally astonished to learn that this song was performed by John Coltrane, and not Jungle Train as he had previously believed. Anyway, nice work
This is a great story I want this experience for my children
lol that's adorable 😄
i'd still prefer Jungle Train. Reality is often disappointing
thanks for your comment ! are you a musician by chance?
jungle train made me giggle
When the world is running down and things look kinda bleak, the New Jazz Underground picks it all back up and gives the world much hope. I love you all and thank you for carrying on the tradition. Jazz is in good hands, y'all. It sure is.
In September 1982, Coltrane was officially canonized as a saint by the AOC. [NPR] 3:33
It better be in good hands, we're gonna lose Wayne Shorter soon :(
PS love the drum sound
"When the world is running down... You make the best of what's still around!"
Sting
These guys are brilliant!
(Me)
Sounds like a Vice article
Love the part where TJ is all ‘babidibabidibabidi’, and Abdi is killing it with those lines. Seabass holding it down, and you know it’s for real when he gets loosey goosey. Eric is great spreading butter on hot biscuits and claw-hammering out core chords and melodies
Did ChatGPT write that comment? 😅
bros speaking in jazz
@rubbr I dunno, claw hammer is a style of playing the banjo
@@rubbr8577 music is a language after all
"Nice!"
This is impressive beyond belief which really puts in to context how far ahead Coltrane was and how his speed and phrasing would still put him on the mt Rushmore of jazz if he was coming up in todays scene
I thought i would never see Elew play traditional jazz again, when he decided to do his own things. Breaking out of typical jazz pianist style. You guys have great chemistry together. 🎉
What a *glorious* version! I thought there'd be no topping the piano lead-in, but it only heated up from there! BTW, my son sent me this link. Giant Steps on my Dad's record player is a signal childhood memory of mine. This stuff runs through our very veins, and folks like you keep it warm and fresh.
love the drummer's expression. like dude's the most chillest guy in the world.
This should warm the hearts of every jazz head out there. Amazing musicianship from these young artists. Much respect to all of you for your talent and for keeping real music alive.
Hallelujah this will be good!!! Can't wait such a solid group.
Best version I’ve heard. Seriously. Also, the title of the video conveys that you understand this piece completely.
Funny that with all that great playing, I was thinking the whole time: "MAN, that stick definition on the ride is TASTY!" 👍
I was thinking how he got that snare drum sound 🤔🤔
I think part of it is that it's a really dry ride. It's got ring to it, but very little shimmer.

Love hearing how you tackle a song like giant steps. incredible work.
Great piano solo! I wish I could listen to Coltrane´s solo and yours in the same take
this is actually so good. i’m currently trying to learn the changes on alto and also piano so i can have the ability to solo but also comp a wind player. your rendition of this piece is so good! best cover version of giant steps i’ve heard since flannagan’s :D
You guys just raised the bar, making it look easy
Fire! Your pianist gets it -well, you all got it- that's just the BEST play of Steps I heard in a looooong time. Bravo.
You guys are so influential, and this mix is just astonishingly crisp.. keep on killing it!! This is what 100% jazz needs right now.
Room swings so hard the camera shakes
Seb and TJ are so freakin locked in. Lucky as hell to get to play together
This totally fucking rocks! And y'all make it look sooooo easy!
This is amazing. I honestly hate giant steps lol but this is a great version worth listening to. Love your guys’ stuff great playing.
That piano introduction was really incredible!! Great job to all these cats.
The Jazz age was 100 years ago and it still sounds fresh and vital.
Once you learn the structure to this song, it makes more sense when trying to comprehend the changes.
After a long 12 hours shift, this take and a pizza just put me back on the track... Thanks for the great work and years of practice. much love
Mucha fuerza y swing!Disfruto mucho su musica!La intro de piano es tremenda!Saludos desde Argentina!
bach with coltrane changes intro. tenor player not just trying to get to the end. well done guys.
studying barebones rhythm changes makes this look like type 5 civilization level stuff.
Not the random youtube video of a guy doing Giant Steps in 13/8
Broooo I was like who is that pianist they killed it!! Then I read the description and was like, oh it’s Elew, duh that’s why it sounds like a god, he is a god 😂
You dudes ALWAYS bring a smile to my face. Gratitude.
that piano intro was great...bach's invention enjoyer right here
Awesome intro by Eric "ELEW" Lewis !!
Sounding good guys. Coltrane always number one jazz artist for me. Sounds great!
Great playing you guys! The piano solo really tells a story
This is so exquisite. It took me away. I really needed this today.
The first 40 seconds of counterpoint and theory is BONKERS
Chilled reimagining
Piano 🎹 solo was immense.
❤
its high level math for mathematicians
so tight, the performance straight to youtube is cool bc i'm showin my nephew these and he acc wants to pick up an instrument, he didn't know you could wear a hoodie and "do jazz"
the bassist is a machine, but so is everyone else
These cats were killing it! A new fan you've made me today!
You guys are amazing, absolutely beautiful!
damn… the sax player is like a cat batting around a mouse he’s already got trapped with this melody. swingin
that RIDE !
I fuck with eric lewis so much. Dude's got so much music in him.
God bless whoever recorded this. Most Jazz recordings/shows suck because you can’t hear the dang bassline!!
those stops near the end were absolutely filthy, ugh you guys are insane
Are we js gonna ignore the bassist going wild? Mans is cookin up back there😭
Good lord! I thought the title was click bait. So glad I clicked anyway! The entire band is a 11/10!
Magnaflorious…amazing guys..!
That drummer is like he is riding the crest of a wave.
Jazz lives!
That guy on pie-anna is smokin’!
2:04 hey! stop that!😂😂😂
I'm so proud to see this movement.
Extraordinary.
These guys can play with anyone!
Yazza ! Jazz is-A way in here, Away out !
Man, this is some magical playing. Subbed. Please keep going, y'all.
giant steps is not music . . . performed at this level by musicians like these, it becomes art
I could tell u wanted to play the intro to the solo - I thought it too. It feels like part of the head tbh.
another day, another slay
Gigantyczne kroki, drodzy państwo
Amazing. Hear the greats in his work. Trane. Rollins, and more in his own way. Giant Steps is a bxxxx to play. I never managed it.
This is one of the nicest versions I've heard. Beautiful! 💚
i heard giants steps for the first time many years ago and man this feels like hearing it for the first time again. i absolutely adore your version as much as the original.
Solid man, solid.

ELEW, damn! All burning
I was subconsciously waiting for this. From the very deep dirty depths of my brain, thank you.
Good lord. You kids are *KILLING IT*. I've said it before - but you give me hope for the future. Not every kid is glued to their cell phone. KEEP IT UP!
that was uncommonly good
Sounds wonderful. Yes, please!
These cats really sound good ! Oh yeah ! ✌️

The algorithm wants me to hear this again! Challenge accepted!
Yes. This is the jazz I was looking for.
Wow!
