      In GPUZ, what's your perfcap reason? With the OE cooler, it's thermal throttled by the ram on the back of the card. This cooler doesn't seem to address that.

      He also put the block on the die with a hair on it, guaranteeing an uneven spread of thermal paste.

    • @AlphacoolGmbH
      @AlphacoolGmbH  3 года назад +55

      You are both correct! It is why I mention being careful as on that particular connector, nothing is holding it to the PCB. usually there are clips, or pcb mounts holding it in, but this is just push fit with the terminals. It is just the nature of the beast.
      The whole card and block was dismantled and reassembled off camera to get rid of the hairs and correct the 3 mistakes that were made (although I don't think anyone has spotted the third yet!)
      The problem with doing things on camera close up like this in 4k is that I have 2 light stands, and a camera in the area I need to stand. I can only see things through the camera display with the Sony A7III as well as whilst shooting in 4k, it doesn't output to a secondary monitor so it is tricky.
      i.imgur.com/uoWS9dp.png
      To put your mind at ease though (and everyone else) there is the block installed still, with the connector attached as good as new :)

    • @AlphacoolGmbH
      @AlphacoolGmbH  3 года назад

      Heat is energy and this is absorbed and transported away by the water and released into the air via the radiator. This means that water does not cool in the true sense. Copper absorbs heat and stores it until another medium, in this case water, absorbs and dissipates the heat. The thicker the copper, the longer the distance the heat has to travel, which is why we try to keep the cooler base as thin as possible. The thicker the copper, the worse the heat transfer. Even if copper is a super material, but thinner and less is always better for coolers. The faster the heat can get to the water, the better the cooling performance. In the case of an air cooler or a radiator, copper or aluminium is placed on as much surface area as possible so that copper or aluminium emit heat to the air via the surface. But the copper part of a radiator does not really have a surface in contact with the air and can therefore only release the heat via the water. Therefore, again, the thinner the copper above the components, the better the heat transfer to the water.

    I bought one of these for my Asus Strix 3090, correct model 11940. The block looks nice and keeps the GPU cool. The problem is the thermal pads they sent with it is only 1mm not thick enough to make contact with memory. My memory temps are through the roof. From reading online eveyrone has the same problem. The thermal pads that its replacing is 2mm with the general view that 1.5mm is the correct size. Anyone else had this problem. To buy replacement pads are a small fortune which is annoying to say the least

      The 1mm pads included are Wrong, and Alphacool has yet to address this flaw. These waterblocks work well otherwise with 1.5mm pads.

    I the 3090 Fe version of this block. While the core temp is great the mem temp is still hitting over 100c. Thermal pads from this kit were installed properly. Is there any thermal pads upgrades you would recommend?

      You can try to order 15w, or even 17w thermal pads from amazon.
