ABOUT THE VIDEO:
Struggling with learning how to draw people/faces as cartoons? Well you can do that simply by learning to break down the process into 5 simple steps.
That's what this video is about.
I've found it to be a "Fundamental Exercise" that has helped me improve my art.
It made me
Draw better
See better
Understand the world around me better.
One key practice will help you open your eyes to the world of art.
So watch the full video :)

Is that a iPad you use and is that the procreate program?
Summary for my own sake
Step 0: References - Choose references that attract you and have defining/prominent features.
Step 1: Note the things that attract you the most. Note the vibe of the model; whether they give off a solid or soft vibe etc. Pick out shape language.
Step 2: Break down model into base shapes; preferably 3. Capture the essence in the most simplest form. Keep shapes simple. Exaggerate them.
Step 3: Look for secondary features and shapes, eg eyes, nose, mouth.
Step 4: Draw many variations. Try to modify lines, angles and shapes. Use rule of T. Get core shape of face right.
Step 5: Ink and colour; flats, shadows and refine. Simplify lighting on model down to 2 things - shadow areas and light areas.
Takeaways: Simplicity.
Why didyou not tell to USE YOUR BRAIN🧮😶
@@MarquessJewellers Often better to not use it while drawing, but that's master level-nirvana-jedi kinda sjiet. Maybe some day
search for "unique face portrait"
About 01:01 , “How Do You See?”
Perceive the Edges;
Perceive the Negative Spaces;
Perceive the Relationships and Proportions;
Perceive the Light And Dark [I like to think of this as both the illuminated and obscured; the rendered and omitted; attracted and repellent in the Jung Shadow work sense; all inclusive I think of this as Perceive Chiaroscuro;
And Perceive the Gestalt. I pulled this [The 5 Questions for Saturation] from Betty Edwards’ Drawing on the Artist Within. The reincorporated these into her most recent revision of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. She also implores here followers to investigate the intertextual connections everywhere. Like you are outlining here.
Tf bro I thought to see we need to 👀
@@synchronizedLOL folks can go their whole life as a swimmer but don’t get the opportunity to learn to scull. The hidden foundational skills then become the thing holding back downstream development.
I did the rule of thirds (on ONE drawing/sketch!) just as it said in the video- And I ALREADY saw a massive improvement so quick! Thank you very much for this video!
'And you end up drawing their long lost cousin, whose face was chewed by a koala' had me cackling😆😆 Great art bro. Its bcaz of u I improved my art from DISLOCATED THIN people to nice normal humanoid people. Really appreciate it♥️♥️♥️Loads of love from Kerala♥️♥️

hands down best video i have seen till now. Cheers mate
Unbelievable! I found a treasure that helps me with this type of drawing! I loved the explanation process and the way to make a very fun and interesting video and I actually subscribed.
Really loved your drawing style
1:20 how do I choose the specific features though? Id say I have a unique face but I don’t know what makes it so defining thanks!
I would go for top 3. I would list all distinguishing features, ask which one give the most bang for buck, go with that.
Incase of smaller features, I would
- just look at the shape of those features, boil it down to ONE simple shape. And play with that shape.
This is a watered down way of putting it.
@@KeshArt thanks man!
making things simple is hard
lol I definitely agree
You’ve improved my drawing more in the last 12 days than I ever have in the last ten years of my on and off drawing ( I’m 23 💖 ). Even my artist friend ( I like to call them a professional because their art is more than just doodles it’s passionate and fun and amazing ) my friend told me I have a pretty good eye for proportions 💖💖thank you Keshart
Thats great to hear!! Very happy for you, do keep going! :)

Are you sure about that 🤔
I was wondering why you said this when I started watching then it later made sense 😂💀💀
Nobody gets it right the first time…. All caricature artists doing live drawings.
At the beginning of the video I was like : wtf is he talking about !? And then, 1:45 😂😂
Is it paid course?
I'm not a digital artist
De lo mejor que he visto en tutoriales en mucho tiempo, te acabo de descubrir gracias a las sujerencias de youtube. Una pregunta, ¿tus cursos esan subtitulados a varios idiomas?, o solo esta todo en ingles?
Thank you so much! Appreciate it. Right now the courses are only in English. We are working on adding subtitles in Spanish and some other languages but its not gonna happen anytime soon unfortunately
@@KeshArt ok estaré atento muchas gracias, felicidades por tu canal se ve estupendo.
Thank you very, very, very much for such clear information! This makes it less daunting en more fun. However I do feel I will also need to invest more time into drawing realistic portraits in order to know shading and lines in the face. I love cartooning, but realistic drawing not so much. I would like to know how did you go about that?
Glad you liked it.
Here's what I would do
- start learning basic head anatomy.
- do 50-100 Breakdowns of realistic head images with the anatomy structure you've learned.
- start drawing heads with the lessons you've gathered so far. Improve and itereat.
@@KeshArt Thanks for the solid advice! 🙏 It creates a different mindset. I will set a goal for 50-100 heads.
Please how did you got the light, shadow and midtone areas so defined?
