@@jackryanmiller you did, very interesting and funny that rollercoaster came from iow. I wouldn't have remembered that. Definitely be good to see more UK theme parks and fairs with some history.
Used to go there as a kid in the late 70s and 80s as a kid, day trips from London, it was a magical place, Mary Rose, looping star etc, it’s iconic, so glad it’s come back from the dead.
The front of Dreamland along the sea front, it used to be a cinema back in the 1935. They made a film in Margate called Empire of Light if you haven't seen it. It very handy on having events in Dreamland then save you for going up to London. We had Jess Glynne not that long ago.
Very enjoyable video, lots of interesting facts and history. I may go myself and check out that big wheel. Is there anywhere nearby to eat that maybe does a nice lasagne? Enjoying your adventures, keep up the good work 👍
Went a few times in the 80s, when it was known as Bembom Brothers, and had some classic rides like Mary Rose and Looping Star. Always thought the entrance down the side-alley was weird.
My childhood park from the late 70's onwards. The Scenic Railway was my first big coaster. Actually got married on it just after they rebuilt it in 2016!
The events seem to keep it in the press, not always for the most positive reasons but on a sunny day it looks great, shame the residents of those flats didn't like the rides actually!
I’ve seen this year they’ve managed to get some really big music acts there so hopefully it stays in business. Although as you say a bit of bad press recently 🙁
The place has changed since I was there over 45 years ago or more. Remember there was The Haunted House and Spinning wheels where you were pinned to the walls. And the place had a few other great rides some probably destroyed in the fire or perhaps just unsafe for today's health and safety organisations There was a great ice cream vendor food shop cafe and a museum of sorts of oddities inside the hall at the front entrance and nearby from Dreamland was a waxwork museum guess that has all gone? And some famous people worked in Dreamland and one belief is Emu and Rod Hul before he was famous that is and Jim Davidson appeared in Margate and I think he worked there as a teenager. And many others.
Wow thanks so much, it’s always amazing hearing about memories from what it was like previously and I’m very interested in Dreamland’s history. Would’ve liked to see a young Rod Hull and Emu too!!
It’s become far too expensive since they did away with the wristbands. You would buy a wristband to enter and then all the rides were included. It’s such a disappointment now as it’s now £5.00 pp just to ride the scenic railway. So a family of four would spend a fortune there now. It never gets as busy as it used to now as the rides are so expensive when you have to pay for each ride individually. That’s why they’ve started up the music venues which are so packed and dangerous that there are always people getting crushed as there’s no real structure to them. I’ve lived here for over 30 years now and have only been once since they made it free entry as it’s so disappointing. It’s such a shame.
Yes that is a shame I guess the prices are going up because it’s so expensive to keep it all running. Should definitely bring back the wristbands and have the rollercoaster included
My Friends and I used to come to Margate every Bank Holiday in the 1970s and 1980s specifically to ride the Coaster because it’s a “Woodie” and they are the best Coasters period! You are a Braver man than I am Mate, we went one bank holiday and had a “Few” Sherbets” and so I did the Big Wheel. We came back the next weekend and stupidly I went on the Wheel ago before any Beers with a Mate and to be honest I was Freaking out because of my Vertigo which must be worse than Yours. Never again 😵💫 Did they still have the Rotor ride where you all stand next to each other and when it starts it spins very fast and the floor falls away and you are Stuck to the Wall.
Ahh ain’t it funny how the scariest rides are actually the family friendly ones and not the coasters ha ha. I wish I had a few sherbets before making the video 🤪sadly they don’t have that rotor ride anymore but I’ve been on one before at a local fair, and won’t be going on one again 🫣
@@jackryanmiller if you haven’t been you have to go to Great Yarmouth where they also have a Superb “Woodie” Coaster that hopefully won’t be closed It’s Coaster Heaven BTW I Love your videos
@@andrewthomas3270 ah thanks so much Andrew I honestly appreciate that! I did actually do a Great Yarmouth video a few months ago but it was ‘off season’ so I saw the coaster but didn’t get to ride it 😒

Used to be good before Covid shut down half the shit and made rides a lot more temporary. Even then it was only a slice of what it used to be years ago.

I enjoyed your history of Dreamland! Very informative and funny thank you Jack
Ahh cheers, you know me I never do any research but this time I actually knew some stuff 🤣🤣

The noises on that ghost train 🤣
The ghost train…unpleasantness
pff try operating it all day, then you can complain 🤣

Very good, I would recommend the Brewers Fayre just round the corner. Good pub, plenty of choice of products.
There's a great little Italian in the old town
@@russelayling7859 Cheers buddy, much appreciated 👍

Love it. I totally agree about the side alley, and the old worn out ‘Dreamland welcomes you’ on the side of the building round the back
Thank the Lord, lol Thought it was just Me who rememberd it as dodgy looking and tacky. New entrance is lovely.
Hell yeah dreamland!!! Ah the memories.
Love it!
I lived there as a child in about 2001 loved the scenic railway
Love it! Shame the scenic railway seems to be closed most of the time nowadays

going to watch Bryan Adams coming Thursday. Excited to see the place and the show.
Wow I’m jealous I love Bryan Adams!
I grew up with the Bembom brothers and the mary rose 360 degrees swinging ship. You lose your pennies from your pockets as it went full 360! eep!
Oh wow yes I know the ride you mean! Terrifying 😆
The entrance is far far nicer than in the 1980s and 90s. It was quite run down (and I am not sure if covered or not ?)
Ah yeh to be honest the entrance does look pretty new!

With the position of that theodolite and its target my money is on theming or a concession stand in the plaza. Not very exciting tho.
