  • This place is one of THE hidden gems of Kent and should be top of your list of places to visit this summer. St Margaret’s Bay is hidden away in between Dover and Deal and in this 4K walking tour I’ll be exploring the historic village on top of the cliffs before making my way down to the beautiful beach.
    Once described as England’s best kept secret, this picturesque seaside village is located just a few miles from the white cliffs of Dover and is a tourist destination that the tourists don’t know about yet! Walk with me as I explore the ancient church of St Margaret of Antioch, get a coffee at The Pines tearoom and Garden, walk down the seafront, see the ferries heading over to the French coast and of course get some great food and a pint at the pub (the closest pub in England to France!). Surrounded by countryside it’s the perfect place for a coastal walk, with a 4 mile circular route where you can learn about the role of St Margaret’s during the Second World War, and situated right next to the famous South Foreland Lighthouse, this is a great day trip from London with things to do for all the family come rain or shine (in my case rain…)!
    So come and see why this tranquil little cove is one of the best places to go in Kent, and one of my personal favourite places in the whole of the UK!
    If you don’t know me already, I’m Jack and I’m exploring the UK, making travel vlogs as I go. I’d be so grateful for your support, so please do like the video, leave a comment and subscribe to the channel!

    Hi,
    I would be delighted if you would visit Broadstairs. I think it's a beautiful little town and above all the place that sparked my love for England. Unfortunately I haven't managed to get back there in the last few years so I would really love a report on Broadstairs from your perspective.
    Best regards

    The track at the top of the steps along the clliffe towards Kingsdown is worth capturing. France visible most days and includes amazing views from the dover patrol monument

      @jackryanmiller  2 месяца назад

      Yes! Absolutely love that walk towards Kingsdown, pretty soon after the monument there’s a bench on the edge of the cliff where you suddenly feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere and as you say the views of France are amazing

    I lived in Granville Road near the Dover patrol memorial with my brother and mother where we rented a 1 bedroom flat 1981-1989, it was such a small village. The primary school was (and is) outstanding. As French nationals, we could capture French TV on our French receiver on the white cliffs, way before satellite! My 1991 A'level Geography project was on the management of St Margaret's seashore and required much fieldwork at the beach! @6:17 No parking fees back then, it was free. Unfortunately, St Margaret's is completely unaffordable today. Lawyers, principally. Rocco Forte has a house there. Best to buy in Deal or Walmer for affordability.

      Thanks so much for sharing. That sounds so cool especially watching the French TV. I would love to move to a place like this one day but as you say, it’s a shame it’s unaffordable now. My sister did move to Deal recently and loves it

    Great stuff Jack I really enjoyed that. Maybe you could visit Manningtree in Essex, former home of the Witch-Finder General Mathew Hopkins, and home to some good pubs like the Red Lion and the Crown.

    The road down is a nightmare it's very narrow and not many places to let vehicles pass and so you can get stuck and not be moving until a driver manages to move his vehicle out of the way to let others pass. Don't go in the Summer it will take you forever to drive down and back up again.

    • @jackryanmiller
      @jackryanmiller  2 месяца назад

      Thanks, in fact that’s one thing I wish I had said about in my video. Luckily there was literally no one around so it didn’t affect me but I can imagine in the summer it is a bit of a nightmare 😫
