Hellman’s ?!?! A purist ?!?! Goodnight….what did that Cherokee Purple ever do for Matt to treat it so badly? That “mater” deserves only the finest mayonnaise…Duke’s mayonnaise 😉😆😉😆
I’m chuckling to myself about how many people are GENUINELY happy for Matt to have his long awaited first tomato sandwich of the year. But I’m one of them. ❤️🍅 simple pleasures in life. Enjoy !
I live way up north in Vermont our growing season is short. Just noticed my first bloom on my tomatoes today. Be several more weeks for me. Can’t wait. I stated them from seed.
You know what I truly love about this channel, just the real appreciation and joy you find in simple, everyday pleasures. It's what it's all about really ❤️
Is Matt aware he’s just as important for these videos. We love seeing the WHOLE family. It gives us a sense of normalcy during these times. Your family is comforting to us. Even if your just sitting for a popsicle. We value the tranquility and contentment. Bless you all.
I know exactly how Matt feels. I can live off of tomato sandwiches until the garden tomatoes give out. I'm like Matt. I like plenty of black pepper but I only buy Dukes mayonnaise. I only put tomatoes, mayonnaise, salt and pepper on mine. Happy Independence Day to you all!
Mayonnaise is getting so expensive and a lot of it has bioengineered products in it now. Walmart mayonnaise is still $3.18 here, the other brands are all $5.00 or close to it. Read your labels for bioiengineered products.
What a wonderful day, when you can eat that first tomato sandwich! Matt sure seemed pleased. Have a great 4th of July. God bless you all and God bless America 🇺🇸
We had the first yellow crookneck squash from our garden last night for supper. My husband sliced it and shook it up with cornmeal and laid it out on a pan and sprayed coconut on top then baked it. It just melted in our mouths like butter. Nothing better than that first bite of goodness. The Lord bless and keep you all .😋💗💗
I'm totally with Matt! To make a Tomater Sandwich all you need is, Bread, tomater, mayo, salt n pepper! That's a Tomater Sandwich! Happy Independence Day Y'all....🙏🙏❤❤🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
One of life's greatest pleasures for a person who gardens is enjoying their first cherokee purple tomato (or whatever variety they love) sliced up with mayo, salt and pepper on light bread. Keep savoring those 'mater sammiches Matt! I can eat them like crazy too, ever since I was a little girl. Back then I'd get my salt shaker and eat home grown tomatoes like apples for a snack, sprinkling a little bit of salt on each bite. I'd eat them until the acid broke my face out!
My goodness I love me a mater sandwich! All of mine are still green. I lost patience and ended up making some fried green tomatoes just to hold me over. Also I appreciate Matt drinking the milk with it. I’ve always done that too and folks thought something was wrong with me. Thanks to him I’m not alone.
Good stuff! Sometimes, I’ll take a slice of cheese and put on bread and top with a tomato and fresh herbs and broil it, open faced. Makes a good snack.
My husband was always anxious for that first ripe juicy tomato. Sometimes it didn't make it to the house for a sandwich. He has been gone for several.years now but so many good memories.
I'm a Tarheel living in Michigan. I grew up in Newton, and my parents grew up in Rutherford County, so I've spent lots of time in western NC. We always called it "loaf" bread. I like it fresh and soft - especially for pimento cheese sandwiches and banana sandwiches. I'm like Matt - LOVE fresh tomato sandwiches - I rarely eat them any different from Matt except I do like to toast my bread. There's nothing like the flavor of tomatoes mixed with mayonnaise! I've been watching your channel for a few months and enjoy it tremendously!
Grew up on tomato 🥪 and cucumber 🥒 🥪 yum. As a foster child now at 60. We lived off the land. Such a nice upbringing. I walk around looking at my small veg plants, it's like a watched pot that never boils. Your garden looks so amazing. Everything it's so wet still from all the rain. Stay out of the heat. Enjoy your day, from VA 🙏💜
I grew up eating Miracle Whip on our sandwiches. My parents always grew lots of tomatoes even when they stopped planting a garden. Today I like Hellmans or Dukes Mayo. Dukes is newer to this area. We live in Glenpool which is part of the Tulsa metro area in Oklahoma. Tipper, today I made the Cheesy Potatoes from your cookbook. They were so good! ❤
The perfect tomato sandwich for a tomato lover. Even Hellmans is a fine choice! Of course we don’t have Dukes here in Canada. You two make me smile. Happy 4th of July! ❤️🇨🇦
So. For some reason (maybe because I watch all your videos?) this popped up first thing this morning. HADDA have one. One of my favorite parts of summer:) So I got up, drove the 20 mi round trip to my favorite Farmers Market out in the country... no 'store bought' would do after watching this!.. and picked out 2 beauts. I'm halfway thru my first tomato sandwich this year as I write this. Cheers, Matt! I mentioned I bought two. Planning a killer BLT for lunch. 😁 Thanks a bunch:) Keep doin' what you do & we'll keep watching..!
Though I'm a California native, my mom was born and raised in North Carolina. She would make tomato sandwiches with mayo, salt and pepper. They were divine! Especially with homegrown tomatoes! Thank you and Happy 4th of July! 💗
I was SO ENVIOUS OF MATT on this one, that tomato looked so good!!! Definitely a Hellmann's household here, despite growing up on "Miracle Whip", both husband and I. Thank you Tipper, thank you Matt! 🍅 ❤🔥
I'm with Katie on the tomato thing. I will eat BLTs, as long as the tomato isn't to thick or squishy. But not thrilled about tomatoes. I use a lot of black pepper on everything. I do like lots of onion. I really enjoy being able to be a part of your family, so to speak. Thank you for allowing us to follow along. Happy Tomato Day Matt!
Wow, wow, I do love a tomato sandwich with light bread, mayo and salt and pepper, Matt was making my mouth water just watching him kill that sandwich. What a beautiful thing, summer, tomato sandwiches. Take care and God bless. Oh,, I forgot home made Ice Cream. :)
I just ate mine! First thing I do every year. 😊 I also grew up eating what my mom called cracker salad. Tomatoes saltine crackers Mayonnaise and salt and pepper. So good!
Love tomatoe sandwiches. Matt seems to be enjoying his first taste of summer tomatoes. His smile shows off his cute dimples. He has the most beautiful smile. Love you guys. Blessings 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
With raising chickens we have taken to making our own mayo. I know it doesnt keep as long as store bought, but its richer and more flavorful. Cant wait for tomatoes to ripen.
Always fun to watch the two of you. I watch my tomatoes every day to see if one gets red. I have a lot but still green. Finally picked my first zucchini and cucumber!
Hey Tipper ... l love fresh tomato sandwiches ... come summer! I am so darn jealous! I can't eat them anymore allergic to them now. Lots of mayo pepper & salt. Raised by people from North Carolina. ENJOY, MATT!
Welp, I guess summer is well and truly here when Matt makes his first mater sammich! I love 'em too and with Hellman's and light bread! My family never went to the store to get a loaf of white bread, it was always light bread to us! Enjoy while you can Matt!
Absolutely no better sandwich on earth than a tomato sandwich with fresh grown tomatoes. I’m like Matt no tomato sandwich for me with a grocery store tomato. Hope you and your family have a blessed 4th of July 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yummy messy goodness. I could eat a half dozen of those things a day. All during the season we ate them every day. I remember my mother saying that we would go through 2 loaves of bread a day (there was 6 of us). She used to laugh and say that it was really cheap to feed us when the garden was producing. We didn’t even want meat, just the vegetables. Mother would cook anywhere from 4 to 6 vegetables every day, probably 3 or 4 at lunch time and another couple at supper time. Of course she had to make cornbread to go along with the vegetables. Have you guys ever eaten fresh mustard greens with hot bacon grease poured over the top and the bacon crumbled up on top of it too. We would put salt on it and some of us liked black pepper on it too.. This was good with the cornbread steaming hot right out of the oven. Oh my goodness I can’t wait for fall and all of the greens to come in.
I am looking so forward to our first ripe tomato. Our vines are hanging full but no ripe tomatoes yet. We grow yellow tomatoes since they are lower in acid. My mother-in-law used to take a juicy ripe homegrown Better Boy, slice it thin, lather some "loaf" , bread with Kraft mayo. She then let it set a while until it was almost soggy. She loved her mater sandwiches this way. My oldest son loved his Maw's soggy mater sandwiches. He still loves them today but has switched to Duke's mayo. Dukes is a staple in our house. Now my momma, she loved her some Hellman's. Only mayo for her. Oh, and I love black pepper on my tomato sandwiches, too. Lots of it. Thank you so much Matt and Tipper for the video today. I truly enjoyed it.
Oh ya...now I need to go to my sisters home to pick a tomato! Matt, your sandwich looks delicious. I used to have a lovely, big vegetable and flower garden but since I move from that property I now depend on my sister for these wonderful tastes. She grows a lot, enough for everyone. We all take part in the care of the garden. Just yesterday I was visiting them and I came home with a bag full of lettuce. I had to make a lettuce and tomato sandwich of course...white bread, fresh tomato, fresh lettuce, miracle whip, butter, and salt...no pepper for me thank you very much lol! The best beverage to drink with a tomato sandwich is of course a big, tall glass of cold milk. Tipper, I had to laugh when you asked Matt if you should keep talking and put off him taking the first bite of his sandwich! He seriously answered, "no". Anyhow, thanks for sharing this. Blessings x
Back in the day, 1970 and such one of my many chores was to weed the garden. My favorite was the Tomato patch. I always took the salt shaker with me, had myself a tomato treat or two while working. Nothing more refreshing than a big ole Tomato sandwich in the Summertime. 😉
My beloved Daddy and Momma both passed away in 2008 5 weeks apart. Married 63 years. I lost both my siblings also. My brother was 61 and died of lung/brain cancer in 2013. My sister was 57 and died of breast cancer in 2016. But every summer when I eat a homegrown tomato sandwich I can feel their presence. We ate them EVERY single day in the summer growing up and into adulthood. But growing up in Pittsboro, NC...down in Chatham County, we always used Dukes !! That's all Momma ever bought !! ❤❤
I love fresh tomatoes from the garden. I can remember as a kid working in the gardens on Saturdays and for lunch we would eat tomatoes like apples. And green onions and cucumbers, radishes. Loved every minute.
Matt knows how to make a samich!!! White bread, Cherokee purple tomato (the best tasting tomato by far), mayo and plenty of black pepper!!! That's my favorite summer samich too. We have our first Cherokee tomato starting to turn now. Dag blasted. I'll have to wait another few days for that "cat faced" looks like 4 tomatoes growing together. Lord give me patience. Amen
My MawMaw used to have a little convenience store in North MS, where she sold gas, snacks, and cut meat. She always used Hellmanns mayo in her tuna salad and on the sandwiches and so we grew up eating Hellmanns. I don't remember Dukes being for sale in the Memphis area when I was a kid. I've tried it but it's just not as creamy and tangy as Hellmanns. Nothing like a fresh tomato sandwich! Sending love from Memphis!
