- Maya Kowalski's father was recalled to testify after the jury viewed the deposition tapes of Maya's social worker and counselor. Jack Kowalski answered questions clarifying the communication issues between him and Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital regarding his daughter.

That social worker is a weirdo…. The one thing that stood out to me was she told Maya that she’s going into foster care and she’s going to take care of her and be her new mom while she has her on her lap. So creepy… this lady needs to never be a social worker again.

I think I was most shocked at the end of take care of Maya when they said what the hospital billed the insurance company for... CRPS!!! They called that mother a liar and she really was a well-educated advocate for her child!! Shocking! I'm surprised the hospital didn't settle out of court on this one! May possibly be the worst choice ever made! I hope it is! The hospital was so wrong!
Yes, that shocked me too, according to them, there was nothing wrong with Maya, and she was inventing the whole thing, or her Mother had caused whatever was wrong with her, then they charge the insurance company a fortune stating they had treated her for 3 months for CRPS. I hope the insurance company sues them as well.

That lady that took over maya I think she should have stayed in that lawsuit she was the main issue yet they dropped that cause she has no money to get and imo it wouldn’t all be about money. Lastly it does seem off after mom died she was then able to walk etc
That documentary had a narrative they wanted to put out and yes I found a lot of it disturbing about that hospital and several others who took her. That said them parents were very sketchy and what’s also off is that she was able to function after mom died. How was that possible? She was screaming in pain until mom died and then all of a sudden she could walk and go to school again

That's one thing I don't understand. Why would a judge prevent a hug, in public, in front of multiple people? Something is off in this case. Seems like there is a missing piece of the puzzle. Something isn't tracking for me.

We had a similar situation with our daughter. We could not get her out of a hospital that was killing her. They threatened me with "We will notify the state and have her taken away from you, if you don’t do let us do what we want." She was there for 3 months until I put her name on every prayer list I could find. She was released in 1 day after that....this is a spiritual battle.

As someone who is diagnosed with CRPS and also have a special needs daughter with rare medical needs, i appreciate this family so much and especially Maya! She has the same advocacy in her that her mother had. She has fought hard to make sure all the parties involved in their victimization will remember her name!

This case is sickening! The child was diagnosed with CRPS one of the most painful conditions possible. Her parents take her to the ER for stomach pain, the ER is unfamiliar with CRPS and the treatment she is on, instead of following up with Maya's doctor, they accused the mother of Munchausen by proxy, take the child away from the parents and admit her to hospital. They medically gaslit Maya and refused to treat her for CRPS, the WHOLE time they were charging insurance for caring for a CRPS patient!!!! They destroyed a family, tortured a child, drove a woman to suicide, I hope they pay through their teeth and everyone involved losses their job!

In prison they would learn what being separated from family is like, loss of job, loss of income etc as happened to this family.
I don't think there's anything wrong with having an expectation that the nursing staff would be warm with their child without being inappropriate. Putting a child in y9ur lap and cuddling and kissing and stroking their hair is extremely intimate and absolutely inappropriate. It's not that confusing. You can provide comfort by placing a hand on their back or shoulder or holding a hand or giving a hug/providing a shoulder to cry on. These are supposed to be professionals. They should know what is appropriate.
What's appropriate or inappropriate is different depending on the family and it's pretty impossible for hospitals to get it right especially when they don't observe the actual family.

A comment was made by this website reporter in reference to Mr. Kowalski, saying that the nurses were cold, and then complained when Ms. B, tried to show affection. There is a Line you do not cross with children without a parents permission, and that Ms. B, I choose not to say her name, crossed the line!

It is not unusual for photos to be taken in the hospital to document wounds and the progression of wound treatment. As an adult who was in the hospital and severely ill numerous times, I experienced my wounds, surgical sites, etc being photographed a number of times. And, I was only in a hospital gown and extremely scantily clad. No permission seemed to be required. So, while the taking of photos sounds bad, I don’t think it is unusual in a hospital setting. My medical records contain numerous photos.

My sweet friend has an affliction called Trigeminal Neuralgia. It’s secretly called the suicide disease. The pain isn’t able to be controlled by any medicine available. Sometimes the staff needs to practically put the patient in to a coma, and test the pain until they come out of a flare-up. Many people have chosen to end it all, because the physical pain is beyond what a human can tolerate. It affects the trigeminal nerves on the sides of the face, ears, and both sides of the head. This is why I believe in the plaintiffs in this case. Weird things do exist.
I have trigeminal neuralgia as well. It wasn't until the pain came on suddenly that I understood why it's called the suicide disease. However, I think the big issue with the hospital and the mother is that she refused to work with the hospital and refused any alternative treatment for Maya. The fact that she was doctor shopping and came in demanding high doses of ketamine for a little child immediately raised concerns because the amount of ketamine could cause death. You can't put someone in a ketamine induced comas as the only and first form of treatment. That would raise big red flags because that type of behavior in a parent is usually seen in cases of Munchausen's syndrome by proxy. However, with Munchausen's it doesn't mean that the child doesn't have any ailments or pain or is faking it either.
An acquaintance of mine has it and she asked me to pray for her death. That's how bad it is

John Hopkins is absolutely responsible for what happened to Maya and her mother because they allowed a person, who should have been under psychological/psychiatric treatment herself to continue with her employment at their hospital.

I hadn't even heard of the documentary and only recently started following the trial. People are loudly supporting the family, but I'm really not feeling it. Everything I've read about the mother raises a million red flags for me. People trying to frame her suicide as some heroic act really disturb me. I have no love for hospitals and feel bad for the kids wrapped up in all of this, but 200+ million is absurd.

I haven't seen the movie, but I have watched a good bit of the trial and I think that the hospital over stepped their boundaries several times over. It's disgraceful.

Yes I watched that narrative driven Netflix show and yes it had me on their side. If you truly believe that documentary showed the whole pic u like me would have been fooled and lots of people who know that dad say he and his wife were very sketchy, some of those people including the lady who they dropped the suit against was terrible absolutely and I would stilll be suing her but nope they dropped that cause she has no money and that’s what this is about. Maya came home and was no longer screaming in pain that’s a red flag imo why is it after her mother dies she gets to go home and she no longer needs pain meds and can walk again? The mother altered a prescrition, assuming that it was her who put " terminal illnees," on the script! Unbelievable. Don't people think that was part of her fear? That being found out? There is no proof of Beata “doctoring” a prescription. It was found to be a salacious untruth due to their insurance company filing it under the wrong doctor and not the doctor who wrote the prescription. Had nothing to do with the mother.

I don't think anyone hasn't hit a brick wall or had their own problems regarding treatment @ any hospital or with doctors. This hospital had to make decisions that may seem cruel. They did that for Maya's sake to hope to find out what is truly wrong with Myra & what course of treatment to best help her. She's not their only patient & she'd been to numerous hospitals & to Mexico for treatment. To take pictures of Maya in her training bra & boxers is done to protect the hospital if she's hurt when they allowed her out to go to Court. Other hospitals we're concerned regarding Myra's Mother from words that came out of her mouth & her wanting them to insert an infusion tube in her spine. Her Mother did need pyschiatric help dealing with a child with a diagnosis that's not well known. It put a lot of strain on their marriage & Myra's brother the whole family. Children see & hear everything that parents say & do. The hospital is being sued bc of a Social Worker! A lot of things are blown way out of perportion! Her Mother choice suicide & that's on her & no-one else. This trial is going to be devastating for many reasons. Maya's Mother wanted to be in control & I get that but as a parent you can't be objective as a parent nor does she have a PhD. It's obvious they hate Miss Beaty but this hospital shouldn't be on the hook for this when a Judge agreed. This is a sad case & the husband is angry &as is Maya & they are looking to blame someone. They have seen all the documents so they know what to say & too much focus on who's right & who's wrong. I don't think towards the end her father agreed with what his wife was dealing with the hospital staff or doctors. There's a lot of hurt but the hospitals job is the patient first @ all costs. Ketamin isn't covered by any drug companies so I can imagine the money they spent taking her to Mexico. Everyone canearn from this but suing a hospital that they had taken her to & others numerous times shouldn't be on the hook.
I get what you're saying I have a hard time believing that the nurses working at a hospital would just blatantly call a mother a liar there has to be a reason why they thought she had munchausen's by proxy. It could possibly be that CRPS is such an unknown disorder which is shocking to me because it's been in the record since the second world war I think?? It was called RSD back then.. I just don't understand why nobody knows how to treat it? I have this terrible disorder! And it's 100% petrifying to have a doctor look you in the eyes when you're in so much pain saying I don't know how to treat your illness..
@@jenndob3865 Hi, thank you for sending me you're comment. I agree, what I'm shocked to hear is there was another name used for this condition! I have every symptom that has come out in this trial & I started taking photos on my phone these past 2 years bc it's gotten so much worse. At 16 I had 2 major back to back spinal surgeries for a crushed vertebrae & a lumbarectomy & had a bone taken out of my leg inserted into my abdomen to fuse to my spine then herrington rods for a year. I had a 50 50 chance of being paralyzed from the waist down. It was excruciating & painful but after months confined to my bed I learned to walk again it was a slow process. With that said I was left with my organs & bowel stuck to everything & severe nerve damage which has gotten much worse. I have had multiple other surgeries & you're right doctors don't know how to help you or they don't have that kind of time too. I was 5 foot 6 125 pds that was productive & happy I had a great job in a hospital & @ 35 it starting getting worse & was put on a disability pension. The next 10 years I was treated by pain meds that worked & never needed an increase in the dosage. When the opioid epidemic hit pain doctors here got scared my meds we're switched. Then switched again in 2017 to such a low dose the pain is excruciating & I now weigh 90 pds. I have had everything joyful in my life stripped from me & spend a lot of time meditating, using ice packs it's not much of a life @ times in bed. Have I thought of suicide absolutely but I couldn't do that to my sons both 28 my husband is angry bc I always sought out help for others but can't get the help I need. When I was 48years old I didn't even have a wrinkle on my face. I get dehydrated easily bc of an upset stomach that affects my bowel, nausea, fevers & pain I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. My body is skin on bones I don't like seeing myself in a mirror. There's a shortage of doctors here & the COVID-19 pandemic made things worse. I haven't given up hope but not sure where to turn. Sorry for dumpling this all out. I hope this trial will be seen by hospital CEO's & all doctors everywhere to change a broken system. They need compassion & doctors need to listen to the patient & their family members so the patient gets the help they need. I've seen doctors in the 🇺🇸 & 🇨🇦 say they have a term they use for patients with multiply complex conditions & it's sad. They say we don't have the time to deal with this in the Emergency Room bc the they will get behind with patients piling up that they have yet to see! I hope you're getting proper pain medication & are doing better? I'm glad Maya has too. People who have never dealt with this kind of pain truly can't grasp how painful it really is. Please let this family win enough to force that hospital and all its inner workings (Social workers) to never do this again and once again CPS comes hard after the wrong families but let’s the ball drop on kids who should be removed from their households!!

Maya has been horribly misled if she came to sue a hospital who saved her life. Maya has had ZERO ketamine since she got it from her mom and now she is fine.

Agreed. I read her initial complaint filed and it is on its face ludicrous now that Ive seen evidence undermining claims made like that mother never admined ket IV at home etc
Did you not see the text messages hospital staff sent to each other about this family? They absolutely had it out for her, also celebrating when she killed herself. Slow, painful recovery vs fast pain free recovery? Maya was exhausted from the pain, physically but also mentally. Who are they to judge the mother and child’s decision for pain relief treatment as abuse? Also claiming it was all in her head. They f’d up and need to be held accountable to stop this from ever happening again.
He did a great job. He stood his ground and didn’t let the defense put words in his mouth. He had every right to be angered by the questions they asked, but he remained as calm as possible.
She is 17 years old and seems like a 25 year old with a Masters degree. I don’t doubt a word she says.
