@shelias He was 14-yrs old, in a new city, a new school, didn’t know anyone. His father threatened that if he left, he wasn’t going to look for him. He was most likely scared.
They adopted a child from a different culture so far away from his family and home and no wonder he demonstrated behaviors due to sheer trauma and these monsters didn’t know how to handle.
The saddest part is you will hear the defense blame the child. They were actually fighting to bring info before the jury that would damage his character! Crazy world!
This poor boy was treated so horribly. It hurts my heart to hear what they did to him. There is no excuse for this horrific behavior. Shame on them!!!!
It may be of interest to you that psychologist B. F. Slinner used the exact same technique to provide "negative reinforcement" (he refused to call it punishment) for his own children!

This boy was in advanced placement classes taking calculus and chemistry when this was going on, he is exceptionally bright. This is simply tragic, let these so called parents remain in jail for life.
Probably because all he could focus on were books. Sadly and I hope it doesn’t turn out this way but as an adult he might spiral. Hopefully he’s getting therapy now

@@caroljohanson2807 What a great family you have. Did you hear about the boy's behavioral problems? He does have some that may be dangerous, although he seems extremely bright.
If the house caught on fire he would have been condemned to death with no way to escape. That’s all you need to know to determine it was imprisonment, abuse, and negligence. The other factors are just disgusting additions.
i agree, they don't seem to be focusing so much as to the trama they are putting the child through, or the dangers/risks they let him at. they seem to be more focused on what the child did wrong.. personally, he did some stupid kid things. he seems very smart and should be in a higher education than they have him in. it don't matter what this child did, no excuse to lock a child in a room without access to lights, air conditioning, food, water, and a bathroom. i can see if the child sleepwalked, to lock his door while he's sleeping but make sure he is fed, and bathroom first, then there would be an alarm installed for fire, and an escape. this set up was nothing but a jail cell and i'm sure jail cells have emergency procedures to unlock the cell in the event of a fire. ..and if he's afraid of the dark to let a night light on.. how could they even emotionally listen to his crys every time they shut that door and shut out the lights?
That alone is terrifying. There should be no debate that this was inhumane abusive and wrong. I think there is something different about this child he does seem unemotional and possibly manipulative I don't care even if he killed someone not this man's right
He sounds very intelligent and articulate and excels in math and science despite the horrific torture and abuse he suffered. What an amazing young man to emerge from such dehumanizing circumstances without hate in his heart for his abusers; in forget he forgives them and wants others to forgive them as well. Lol. Very "matter of fact" when he searches videos of 'women getting run over by a train' on his sister's phone also. They all seem like paid actors to me. They all act like it was an 8 foot box with only a mattress and a bucket , but when they played the video of Tim setting up the ring cam there were a bunch of posters on the walls and other boy bedroom type stuff. This case seems staged and fake. Very unlikely this kid had to poop in the bucket of he's being let out on a daily basis. Very unlikely he was made to dump the poop bucket in the backyard by the bushes. I don't believe any of this made for TV infomercial bullS#+t case. Paid actors!!
@@pamstanley7442 the kid is manipulative little monster. He should have been sent to an institution for mentally drained. Who would even think to build a box in the garage to put your kid in it? That is so bizarre. There has got to be more bizarre behavior they haven’t discovered yet.
@happycamper1372 There's definitely something else going on besides a father's abuse of a child. The whole control and abuse thing is very troublesome. The defendant reminds me of my ex who's a covert narcissist..His appearance, his lack of emotion, the cold, dark intimidating stares. Covert narcissists have an insacious need to control, over the top control, mostly in hurtful, cruel ways. They prey on the most vunerable. In relationships, or in families, covert narcs seek out those they see as weak, so they'll be easier to verbally abuse. It's not being strict, or having a bad day here and there, it's constant, sustained verbal abuse. This is how they operate. They don't physically abuse because they'll be evidence of their physical, destructive behavior. It's verbal and over a period of time, it can cause psychological damage to their targets. Adopting a baby or a child would be a perfect choice of a covert narcissist because they see those as underprivileged, vunerable, etc, hence they are easy to manipulate and abuse. They hide their inner feelings, but underneath their perfect image, is a heartless monster. My opinion, but from what I have heard this far about this story, there are similarities of the defendants behavior and covert narcissist behavior. Without knowing the family dynamics, if this is true, the spouse is sometimes oblivious to covert narcissists, what their intentions are and what they're actually capable of doing and why.
Tim is sitting there sighing and making faces like he just doesn't understand why he is being charged with anything! And shame on his wife!! A mother allowing a child to be abused is despicable
For those on Court TV saying the boy doesn’t sound damaged by the treatment he received, just being free would give him hope. But can you imagine how he felt while living it? It’s a good thing he wasn’t claustrophobic. I am and I would have freaked out because of that alone. Anyone who doesn’t think this is abuse needs to spend time locked in the box room for as long as he was or even for an entire day then tell us if it’s abuse or not.

Sick controlling toxic male father and sick subservient mother...two monsters...may they get the maximum sentences and suffer locked in a cell like they did to their own child.
The mother did nit sound so subservient to me, she grilled him like a guard tossing a cell - every bit as brusque, cold and hostile as the father. I would say impersonal but it was very personally focussed, very disparaging. They constantly quizzed him to fund out any tiniest thing he did that they had not given express advanced permission for. For this 14 year old to do *anything* spontaneous was pathological &/or criminal in their eyes.

He’s calling them Tim & Tracey, that should give us some kind of idea of what kind of parents they are. This is horrific! This man was stupid for giving up that plea deal, he’s going to prison for quite a long time.

Vulnerable children attracts predators. "orphans" from poor countries are seen as very vulnerable and many ppl who are attracted by international adoption have alternate agendas for the child, more than just having a child. Many international adoptees are not really orphans, even from very poor countries. Real orphans are to sick or handicaped for the western world to want them, so these children are snatched and kidnapped from the real parents. THere is a lot of money in international adoption and there are f. ex. warnings going out in the countryside of China that the region is attacked by childsnatchers.

He loved it and still has friends from that time, including some of the instructors. My brother went on to the Naval Academy. He served in the Marine Corps. If this lad had ADD or was defiant towards authority or displine, he would not be a candidate for military academy or school. Maybe Boot Camp, but this child has been Psychologicaly unwell. These people do not deserve kids.
This child was subjected to a form of psychological torture. Being isolated and locked up in a pitch black room for hours on end, with no stimulus is a form of sensory deprivation. This child was stripped of rights as a human being, right down to the most basic thing, such as water if he's thirsty. If he had not been rescued eventually that treatment would have led to irreversible damage. Now, with the right therapist and a good family behind him, he'll make a full recovery. Also, a big "thank you" to the contractor that alerted the police. As for Timothy Ferriter, he's a dumb ass. He rejected a plea deal of 2 years in prison and now faces 40 years and possibly more. He's not the brightest cookie in the crayon box, which is probably why he thought it was a good idea to build a box to imprison this poor child in. I can't wait to hear how the defense is going to explain this one.
Yeah. Daddy is a freaking moron if they offered him 2 years. Lol. See ya in 40. Prosecutor whom made the offer will be looking for a new job soon as well if not already
These parents belong in jail. If this young child, was having difficulty with his behavior , his parents should have sought out medical treatment and helped him. There are 1 million different ways they shouldn’t help him, putting him in the dark you don’t deserve that.
It sounds like it was continuous punishment for this boy. When I heard the defense opening statement about the boy, I was not expecting him to sound so intelligent, mature and self-assured. Lord, help him to heal.
Oldest defense ...Blame the victim. Hope it doesnt work and they are found guilty. It will send a message to others that this is NOT discipline its abuse . He, the so called father ,may find himself in a locked room with a thin mattress.
I am so glad he refused the plea deal bc 24 months is ridiculous & should’ve never been offered!! Now he’s facing 30-40 years. Also, I don’t understand how they’re not getting charged with evidence tampering since they’re both on camera destroying all the evidence? The creeps are always suposide godly ppl and to think they went out of their way to adopt a child to do this to him..maybe there was a reason they hadn't kids of their own.
This is awful. I'm happy that man was found guilty on all counts. The father turned down the two year plea, and I'm happy he did, because now he can spend up to 40 years in prison. I think that father really thought he would be found not guilty, and the look on his face is clear that he has zero love for his adopted son. He makes me sick to my stomach.
I'd like to think he'll receive his death sentence in prison. Lots of inmates were horribly abused as children. Dad isn't going to be very popular amongst the prison population.
Hope he gets a harsh sentence. It think it was 3 counts of guilty so I hope he is sentenced to do back to back sentences. Long time before he gets out of prison.
When children have behavioral problems it is usually due to not getting enough attention, love and affection. They should have put him into activities, spent one on one time with him, as well as family time together. It seems to me that they just didn’t like him. Everything he did and said annoyed them so they decided to treat him as a prisoner. Hearing the sister testify, she said he seemed to get into trouble for nothing all the time. It’s so very sad.
@@skiarytn6744 I agree. I grew up in very similar circumstances. But my mother rotated who her target was. It was like she couldn’t love all of her kids at the same time. This is absolutely gut wrenching. Ronan is so intelligent and so eloquent! I'm so proud of him for speaking up for himself. When he said "it was dehumanizing," my heart just broke. He knew exactly what was going on and what they were doing to him and he knew it was wrong. I just hope that he knows he never deserved any of that horrible treatment and that he was spot on when he said that he "was punished for being a kid." All he did was have normal human behaviors for a child that had experienced trauma at a young age, and they punished him for it; All these parents did was make his trauma worse! I hope he can find healing and love in this difficult time. I'm so glad he's out of that home and justice is being served.

It’s literally just evidence of him being intelligent & if even speculate further to say it’s *likely* evidence to him being motivated to do well in his school studies based on the evidence that punishments for anything less than that were frequent. Also evidence that he likely thoroughly read the few materials he was allowed over & over again as he had no access to any other stimuli. He is clearly intelligent & very articulate, I agree. I’m just very confused as to why people seem to be so impressed with this that they are reading far more into it than what it is. It’s actually also evident, imo, of the trauma he endured. He is using impressive vocabulary terms to describe his emotional state & experiences but he’s using them in an effort to remain detached from those emotions he likely did experience. Trauma is complex but it doesn’t take a psychologist to spot when a person is still unclear about the circumstances of that trauma/abuse. It is common for a person to detach simply as a form of self preservation to not feel the complex emotions that come along with such experiences. It’s also common for a victim to truly believe themselves to be treated badly (abused) because of something they’ve done or whatever they’re being told is wrong with them. Even if no such reasons are given it is human nature to assume these things about one’s self to rationalize their mistreatment.

i agree, they don't seem to be focusing so much as to the trama they are putting the child through, or the dangers/risks they let him at. they seem to be more focused on what the child did wrong.. personally, he did some stupid kid things. he seems very smart and should be in a higher education than they have him in. it don't matter what this child did, no excuse to lock a child in a room without access to lights, air conditioning, food, water, and a bathroom. i can see if the child sleepwalked, to lock his door while he's sleeping but make sure he is fed, and bathroom first, then there would be an alarm installed for fire, and an escape. this set up was nothing but a jail cell and i'm sure jail cells have emergency procedures to unlock the cell in the event of a fire. ..and if he's afraid of the dark to let a night light on.. how could they even emotionally listen to his crys every time they shut that door and shut out the lights?

@happycamper1372
There's definitely something else going on besides a father's abuse of a child.

Excellent comment. 💯
Yes. His ego makes him think he can't/ hasn't done anything wrong.
2 years is nonsense .. 40 years should’ve been on the table first .. bet if it was a dog he would not have gotten any type of deal.
Hopefully he'll recover
Yeah. Daddy is a freaking moron if they offered him 2 years. Lol. See ya in 40. Prosecutor whom made the offer will be looking for a new job soon as well if not already
What an intelligent young man. He speaks better than majority of the adults I speak to.
These parents belong in jail. If this young child, was having difficulty with his behavior , his parents should have sought out medical treatment and helped him. There are 1 million different ways they shouldn’t help him, putting him in the dark you don’t deserve that.
I’m so in awe of how well spoken he is!
I can only pray that the jurors agree with the majority here.
I wish I could adopt him and show him the love and safety parents should give a child.
God help your other kids.
I am so glad he refused the plea deal bc 24 months is ridiculous & should’ve never been offered!! Now he’s facing 30-40 years.
Also, I don’t understand how they’re not getting charged with evidence tampering since they’re both on camera destroying all the evidence? She got rid of everything in that so called “room” & moved the mattress into a bedroom & then he demolished the entire thing.
He should’ve taken the plea
@@ShannaMarieWin why???? They should spend the rest of their life in a small jail cell!!!!!
He thinks he was acting appropriately and will blame it on managing behavioral issues that kid had. Ridiculous.
Where did you see that?
Should be!
My son has severe mental illness and I never locked in a room. He did a few inpatient hospital stays but they were beautiful places. We drove 400 miles round trip every weekend to see him.He is now a adult and able to live on his own and going to colleage.
This young man is so articulate. I am glad that these monsters have not broken his spirit.
Well prepared kid. Answered matter of fact and very strong. The young man speaks with a confidence the lawyer lacks.
The state has prepared him well
He didn't have the best lawyer that's for sure. Maybe she's just learning. But wow, what a case to be learning with.
Parents claimed to be Godly people, even used a priest as a prop. Shameful people.
The creeps are always suposide godly ppl and to think they went out of their way to adopt a child to do this to him..maybe there was a reason they hadn't kids of their own.
Godly people act like this a lot
If that Priest is in support of the Defendant ,then he's NO man of God ! He's a disgrace !
I hope both of these monsters get to live the rest of their life and an 8 by 8 room!!🤬🤬🤬🤬
Evil “in the name of God”. A very dark god I’m positive.
I am too! I know in prison child abuser get it there from other prisoners.
I hope he can’t sleep at night for fear of his life. Pure evil
Only 5 years he got
When children have behavioral problems it is usually due to not getting enough attention, love and affection. They should have put him into activities, spent one on one time with him, as well as family time together.
It seems to me that they just didn’t like him. Everything he did and said annoyed them so they decided to treat him as a prisoner. Hearing the sister testify, she said he seemed to get into trouble for nothing all the time. It’s so very sad.
Sounded like they just wanted a house keeper and a personal punching bag to make them feel superior. Sick people.
@@skiarytn6744 I agree. I grew up in very similar circumstances. But my mother rotated who her target was. It was like she couldn’t love all of her kids at the same time.
We were also constantly told we were to be seen and not heard. We did chores from morning til night. We didn’t get to do the fun or normal things other kids did. We had to earn watching tv, but it’s funny because we could never do quite enough chores to ever earn it. My heart goes out to this boy.

Wow. So very sad.
@@Sassfire same. I am so glad to finally be an adult and living on my own.
We see it to often. This young man is intelligent and probably rebelled against Tim’s bs. I was raised in a fanatical religious situation. Parents run with the spare the rod spoil the child scripture which is a total mis construed snd mis translated idea.
The distancing language this young man uses when talking about what happened to him is very telling. Its going to take many years of therapy for him to get past what these monsters did to him.
The defense making out like this child deserved to be treated so horribly is really disturbing. What kind of person tries to demonize a child in an effort to justify child abuse?
Sorry to say… but… he will NEVER get past what those EVIL… vile “so-called” parents did to him… 😞
It’s just too many years of too much trauma during his formative years… He will have “daily” struggles in his adult life…
This is a sad… infuriating tale…
Abusive parents have to blame the children for their actions, or their abuse is not warranted..... it will always be the kids fault.
what they did to him will HAUNT and SHAPE him for the rest of his life. Trust me; I know from experience... and I'm old now.
People will say ,"Just let it go, and don't let it define you, and your future ",.......... That is insulting and demeainng, I know how that feels, and it still disgusts me to hear that even today. No one should speak, or give opinions about something so detrimental in someones life. Like I've always believed, "If you havn't experienced the trauma of abuse whether physical, verbal ,psychological, mental, sexual, or emotional abuse you have NO business even speaking about it. You have to experience it, live it to ever understand the impact it has on someone.
Ok, glad you shared this, I've been guilty of saying the last one, Don't let what happened define you because I was just repeating what therapist said to me, but for different kind of traumatic experiences, not abuse from my childhood
Tim knows darn well that kid is telling the truth. Where does he get off writing notes to himself during testimony? Grrr.
It's a tactic used in trails for defendants to focus on something like drawing to keep physical reactions (in the face) to a minimum.
@@PanicattheDiscourse He's writing words in response to what the victim is saying. He wants to undermine his testimony.
Tim looks like he has no emotional attachment to the boy whatsoever. What a sleazy psycho.
Riiight I'm like wtf is he writing!?
@@PanicattheDiscourse Never knew that and it makes sense, thanks for the insight.
It might be helpful if the prosecution would have an expert testify on the effects of solitary confinement. They should each be sentenced to one year for each hour they locked him in and not allowed to leave their cell.
It's so devastating for grown adults... For a child 😭
I think they are going to have experts later
They should get 20yrs in prison, not 1 year.
@@julief634The comment was that they should get 1 year for each hour that they locked the child in the room; not simply 1 year of imprisonment.
@@MissPreciousLove Oh sorry my bad. Yea I hear ya. I just also realized the dad would get 40yrs if convicted, which is even better!

I'm pretty sure prison inmates get better treatment than this. This is akin to the prisoners in Gitmo.
@@elizabethmccready Yes, you're probably right !
@@elizabethmccready 1. United Nations Protocol to the Convention Against Torture, minimum cell size = 64.58sq ft. EXCLUDING sanitary facilities. His box, 64.0 sq ft INCLUDING toilet bucket.
2. Under international law, prison inmates cannot be sentenced to solitary.
24/7 electronic surveillance inside cells is not permitted.
3. Prisoners must have access to daylight as well as a reading light,
4. Prisoners must have opportunity for regular bathing, daily exercise, fresh air, drinking water, and daily free socialising/association outside cells with their peers.
Most countries also have a legal minimum for human dignity, like flush toilets, a sink for hygiene, access to in-cell, choice of reading (usually several books a week) and in-cell access to pastimes / handicrafts. And a choice of some foodstuffs to eat at a time they choose.
Violent prisoners receive better treatment in solitary confinement than this boy got.
The kid said he doesn't have any feelings about it. He is lying. Not intentionally. I believe he is saying that because that's how he learned to cope with the maltreatment. 😢
yeah, its call survivor mode, he saved his own life. hes strong
Hes not lying. He doesn't have feelings about it because as you. Say its a defense mechanisms. He's not lying. Jesus he knows how he feels better than you do mate.
This story is so upsetting. The boy is clearly bright. I hope he is able to heal from this trauma and can someday have a loving family of his own.
He said he was kept in their CLOSET when he overheard them talking about building a space to keep him in the garage
Tim you're a horrible person. I hope he rots in prison. Prayers for this child. I hope he lives his best life being rid of these cockroaches.
Yes he looks like a dead eyed psycho.
It’s disgusting that Tim
actually smiles/smirks with dupers delight when the child says he wasn’t “physically” abused (31-32 minute mark). Sounds like my mother and other narcissistic parents who only believe abuse is hitting etc.. They truly believe they can justify all the other forms of abuse.
Including not feeding him properly
He was physically forced into the room. That's abuse
That's exactly what it's called, duper's delight.
They kept him in their CLOSET until the box room was built!!!???
Sounds like that one episode of SVU where the maid slept in a box under the couples bed
This poor kid. I hope he gets the support he needs and that his “parents” are put away for a long time.
way to go waiting for all evidence to be given including the defence. Let's just pronounce guilt already shall we?lol
When he said he felt “apathetic” to being there in court. So sad 😢
I think it is good, his apathy protects him from being emotional. Therefore he can express himself fully
But the apathy could affect him later on in life when building trusting and healthy intimate relationships with others, or engaging in self-care. My heart goes out to him.
Truth. Both of you.
He was basically house slave the got from another country. This kid was horribly treated and beyond abuse. I can’t believe state offered this monster 2 year in prison ?? But so glad he didn’t accept but I hope juries have morals and compassion by sentencing him 15 plus years. This case should be lesson for everyone
I am sickened to hear what his “parents” did to him. His living conditions, the difference in treatment between him and his siblings really makes me angry. I’m glad the court gave him the opportunity to talk about this in front of Tim. I hope Tim is ashamed of himself and has to recall this interview while locked up in an 8 x 8 cell for the rest of his life. His so called “mother” should rot in a cell as well. Simply despicable, breaks my heart. Oh and btw, I couldn’t fathom of doing ANY of these things to my adoptive son who also had issues growing up. I would love to have 20 minutes in a room with this “mom”! Where was her protection? Where were her motherly instincts? Why didn’t she give him the love that he needed? These two make me sick 😡
By the sounds of it - she was completely submissive to her husband & didn't intervene....sick sick individuals
I hope this young man can heal. It must be tough to not be wanted at birth, only to walk into a family that still didn't consider you worth enough to be treated human. 😢
He must now be with a loving family because he's very articulate.....
Much of the time, a baby is very much wanted, and circumstances or people force relinquishment. It's not a given that adopted children weren't wanted. -An adoptee who was wanted
@@astrialindah2773being articulate has nothing to do with him being with a loving family now.
@@astrialindah2773he isn't articulate due to his placement. This young man is bright and has been that way despite his horrible "parents"
Let’s not say or assume unwanted. Perhaps he was wanted, but his biological parent/s were unable to care for or provide for him, or the circumstances were unsafe or not secure & stable. There’s every possibility it was a difficult decision for his biological parent/s.
I’m thinking about my 11 yr old nephew as I listen to this kid. Breaks my heart to imagine a child being refused his basic needs and the right to be a child and feel loved and wanted. I just want to give this kid everything.
