Of course the actions by the parents are completely unacceptable, which any reasonable person would not dispute.
But I do think it’s very ironic that the state is arguing how awful and psychologically damaging it is to be confined to a room or be put in solitary confinement while also doing exactly that to persons that are just a couple years older or of the same age that the son is in this case if such a person was to break the law. Because once a person is found guilty of committing a crime, and is over the age of 16 (legal age of criminal responsibility in the state of Florida), the state feels it is justified to be putting people in the same kind of confinement the prosecutor argues is a criminal and causes all kinds of terrible, damaging psychological effects to a person. Therefore, they are admitting the prison system is cruel and only causes further harm to the person that is confined rather than helping such a person rehabilitate and change their behavior.
      1:40:08 (prosecutor argument)
Because it is not unreasonable to think - just based on his pattern of behavior - that the son in this case could commit a crime in the future and be punished in the same way his adoptive parents were punishing him. I do hope however that he gets any support he feels he needs, and that that does not happen.

When I see both husband and wife drinking water during the few hours in court and they forbid their son from drinking for long periods of time, I feel outraged. These parents are monsters; where is the compassion parents show their kids when they act their age. Feels like the husband is threatened by a male figure at home and wants to destroy him. Nothing, nothing explains treating a child this way and unfortunately the parents if incarcerated, they will be treated better than their treatment to their son.

@@geoffpoole483 I think the woman attorney's approach was too aggressive and they decided that the man was going to be better, but he seemed trapped in his own elemental questions. I think that the 'blaming the victim' defense was way too risky since it's a child. If that defendant walks, people on the streets are going to be really mad about it. Keeping the psychiatrist too long on the hot chair certainly wasn't the best strategy for the defense. I loved also when he said that he had his doubts about the child's 'extreme' behavior claims since not once the child was suspended for anything and we all know schools around the nation would recur to that right away whenever there were dangerous behavioral concerns for safety reasons. Just a day in the park for the state, let's see what they come up with today!!!

@@kitterzy That was some really ignorant parenting. I remember my stepson was inconsolable after weeing the bed and I was telling him it was okay and he said he didn't want a spanking. "Why would I spank you?" I said "I'm pretty sure you didn't want to wake up in wet pajamas! You didn't do it on purpose.....did you?" "No" he whimpered. "right, so you won't get a spanking we'll just get you new pajamas and change your sheets. It's okay, it happens to everyone, even adults sometimes!" Then his dad told him the story about how he accidently started to wee the bed as an adult because he dreamt he was at the toilet and my son was in fits of giggles. Empathy is the key to good parenting.

He's a CHILD, a child that has been exposed to more cruelty than anyone should ever have to. He's learned aggression to be how ppl handle their grievances. The ones to blame for his misbehaviour are the ones who were ADULTS misbehaving in the same way. All children have their moments of pushing boundaries, but this child had parents teaching him NOTHING about love, compassion, kindness. Only unfairness. They really are evil, awful humanbeings. I’ve never seen a judge get on and stay on the attorneys like this judge did when they would walk away from the mic, which blows my mind how often it happens, but they always want to be the first to tell the witnesses to make sure THEY speak loudly into the mic! It’s like the attorneys have an allergy to the mic and try and stay away from it at all cost! I’ve watched many trials and this is ALWAYS an issue. However, in this case, the judge was on top of it and I’m incredibly thankful to him for that! This was one of the best trials as far as audio goes and the difference was 💯% due to the judge!

Obviously the actions by the parents are completely unacceptable, which any reasonable person would not dispute.

The defense attorney came in late and he's not prepared. The psychiatrist is prepared. The defense attorney discusses adhd. Putting a kid with adhd in a box would drive them crazy. I think he had attachment issues. Putting a kid with attachment disorder in solitary confinement with prison guards would make it worse. On the stand he said he was apathetic.
They put him in a box so they didn't have to deal with him.

You are so right! I have ADHD and can’t even be in a room without a window; much less just sit without something to do. When the defense attorney tried to him off almost burning down the house because he messed with an outlet I had to laugh. Of course he messed with the outlet!! I was 30 and complimented my dad’s new TV - instead of thanking me for the compliment he told me not to take it apart 😂. Us ADHD kids are an inquisitive bunch.

The Sixth Amendment right to a fair trial guarantees the right of defendants to have family members and friends support them in court. Most courts encourage it and give them priority to be in the courtroom. As far as her having a laptop, everybody in the courtroom was using electronic devices. So I guess they don't have any rules against it.

I do think this child had behaviors that were difficult to deal with but the parents handled this all wrong. Had they been fearful of the safety of the other children, they could have tried to have an immediate assessment and possibly admit him to inpatient psychiatric treatment. It’s like he no longer fit the mold of a perfect child so they tried to hide him away. Such a tragic case. I hope he is able to be a successful adult.

I hate when an attorney try to discredit a witness who has years of studies and years of practices, wrote a lot of books and articles, and when the way he talked and explained was clear and so logical... I am seeing Psy and I personally thinks this one was excellent. As for the vicious question about being paid, why would those people take on their very busy schedule, sometimes even having to travel to the location Court is located, do it for free. If it was free, they would not do it because they are losing on their working times and incomes. It's not like the state can't afford it
