- Social worker, Catherine 'Cathi' Bedy, took the stand today.
Witness testimony continued in a $200 million lawsuit against Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital that was featured in the Netflix documentary ‘Take Care of Maya’. In 2016, at just 10 years old, Maya Kowalski was admitted to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital for severe pain and was removed from the custody of her parents after staff accused them of "medical abuse." Her mother, Beata Kowalski, hung herself in her garage on Jan. 7, 2016 after going months without seeing her due to the medical abuse allegations, according to the family's attorney, Greg Anderson.

I have never heard of staff in a hospital taking photos of a child without parental permission. This was outrageous. FYI that little girls mother was a nurse and not an abuser. I do not leave my child’s bedside in hospital. This poor mother was forced to. Shocking

It's normal for DCF to take pictures of children. The problem with Cathy Beady is she along with Dr Sally Smith Is ignored the original court order from a Judge who never said anything about Maya's mother not being allowed supervised visitations. JHH failed this family by allowing 💔 😢CB SM to abuse power it's very difficult to believe that the doctors nurses even head of their administration didn't At least question there intent they were all responsible for their actions 😢 i still don't understand why CB SM aren't facing criminal charges for this?

The poor girl has been through so much as is & to take her child over the little girl being in pain constantly, is disturbing. I’m an adult, been diagnosed with the same condition after 20 years of being diagnosed with more than 30 separate illnesses, all relic each other, & it’s mentally exhausting in itself to always put on a happy face when you’re in pain & don’t want others to see it. I believe Bedy needs to be charged with Munchausen by proxy herself. For the abuse this woman put this family through she should have lost any of her pensions, immediately be charged with child abuse, neglect, child pornography, SA as the photos were never used & had No permission to take them & any other charges they can find

I am a pediatric nuse who has never in 25 yrs took pictures of a child let alone without parental consent. Not allowing her mother there is absolute cruelty....! Even if child abuse was 'suspected'..the mother should have been there with a sitter in the room...this is outrageous

This woman needs to be charged for the crimes she committed against this child and her family. She caused the death of her mother over the constant berating of care to the young girl when her family had every right to ask for what they needed. She went home and hanged herself - knowing that was the only way to get treatment and justice for her suffering child. Talk about sacrifice.

As an RN, there is no way I would have participated in those photos. I would not have allowed the social worker to take them against that child’s will. I would have told the Dr to come and take the photos herself. There was zero patient advocacy going on there!

We don't know if the mother was innocent. If she killed herself should could have felt guilty for causing this. People do all kinds of crazy things for many different reasons, including faking illness for sympathy or money.

How can she say to an emotional little girl, that her mom is in mental hospital and that she will adopt her and even tried to convince Mr. Jack to divorce Mrs. Beata. Cruel to the fullest. She should be put in jail and pay for the damages she caused which is beyond repairable.

My son went to the hospital with anxiety. A social worker pink slipped him after spending a few minutes with him. This was the beginning of the end for my son. They threw so many psychotropic drugs at him that threw him right over the edge. He’s no longer alive and I’m left with profound grief.

I’m finding it really hard to believe that one hospital had that many cases of Munchausen by proxy because it’s an extremely extremely rare mental health disorder. For one hospital to have two or three before Maya, and then several after is ludicrous, - Munchausen by proxy syndrome is a relatively rare disorder. In general medicine, about 1 percent meet the criteria for Munchausen by proxy that the incidence of Munchausen syndrome by proxy is 0.4/100.000 among children aged below 16 years and 2-2.8 per 100,000 among children aged below 1 year
Also, this woman saying that she never documented anything goes against all kinds of protocols in place by hospitals, especially dealing with minor children. Everyone and I mean everyone writes in the chart what they do with the child if the child goes anywhere, etc. You will see double triple quadruple documentation about one event, especially if that child is under a court order being protected. Also, she’s not answering the questions.

Bedys' testimony is over staged and over rehearsed. Bedy has been well coached by the defense, and you can tell because she knows precisely what questions she is going to be asked or which subjects she is going to be pulled up on. Then she sprouts her pro-forma response. This is how abusers get away with violating others. They use their power and position to deny that any of these alleged wrongs occurred. So how does any victim prove it. Bedy honestly believes that she is above reproach and obviously not able to consider another's perspective or accept any responsibility whatsoever.
Judging by the questions that the jury are asking, they seem quite smart too. Hopefully, they may see Maya's truth and that there was no reason for this shelter.

In the Netflix documentary there are text messages between hospital staff when Maya had a tablet on her lap and they disparage whatever communications the mother may have been having with Maya - saying "we wouldn't put anything past the mother" who was DESPERATELY trying to help her daughter out of pain.
JHACH, Bedy & Smith keep trying to show that Maya is Malingering. OK, if the hospital does not support Ketamine therapy. But to go to DCF and present a case of child abuse is unwarranted.

The most outrageous claim was that Maya's Mother could have poisoned the host (Catholic wafer used during mass). The priest has the host on him at all times and is NEVER OUT OF SIGHT of it because it is consecrated.

All Children Hospital stated that they Report Beata Kowalski for medical child abuse and want to put Maya in safer environment and apparently, this hospital allowed Cathi Bedy,who has child abuse charges (her both knees on a 10 years old chest) to be social worker around Maya. This women stripped off Maya's clothes and started taking pictures of body parts without parents permission and even Maya already said NO. Quite pathetic and evil for what All Children hospital committed
She dodged the question about documenting whereabouts of children patients if taken out of their room - saying the 'bedside nurse knew where a minor patient was" is not the same thing at all. And to suggest it is sufficient feels unprofessional, possibly medically unsound and problematic, and just plain counter to common sense. Does each minor patient have their own 'bedside nurse"?
So, she claims they were afraid she would fall out of the bed and injure herself, but believed she was faking. Which one is it?

The bottom line is this: what if one of you guys had a child that was diagnosed with a condition by four or five different doctors and had been receiving a treatment by those doctors.. then there was a complication, so you get sent to the hospital.. you asked for the treatment that those doctors recommend.. you are an extreme advocate for your child because you would literally die for that child… now you are accused of child abuse?
Bottom line is what if you been abusing your child and then you send your kid to the hospital, composed of mandatory reporters, fiending for KETAMINE. BECAUSE YOUR LAST QUACK DOCTOR CUT YOU OFF because even HE thought you were being unreasonable..

She is SO creepy. SO damn creepy. This case ripped my heart in half. I'm thrilled with the outcome of the verdict, but nevertheless, Kyle and Maya will never get their mother back. There's no price on that. I pray to God that life is kind to both of them as the years go on, and they remember their strong, beautiful, courageous mother, and take the best of her with them.

I am a social worker. We are not experts in fabricated illness. We are always lead by medical experts to safeguard and we keep the hell out of it. And indeed to be exempt from any cross examining. I cannot get my head around her taking photos. Only medical experts takes photographs for evidence not a social worker.

I hope the judge throws the book at them. Being in intractable pain is already a horrible existence. I can't even imagine being a young child with an extreme pain disorder and then having a bunch of incompetent doctors & staff lodging false complaints against my guardians and getting removed from their custody, then having those useless doctors wrongfully taking over my treatment & then entirely dismissing the severe pain disorder under the guise of calling it fabricated by medical abuse, then refusing to treat any of my pain and basically torturing a young child through withholding any pain medication and treatment.
Unfortunately, this kind of case and this total incompetence, narcissism, and sadism in doctors is insanely common. I'm also very chronically ill and see countless specialists. Take it from me - most doctors are not only worthless, but they're also flat out sadistic and are on a constant power trip. This is far too common, and there needs to be far more laws & regulations in place to prevent this kind of behaviour in medical professionals, and to keep awful and/or incompetent people from going into the medical field in the first place. This is exactly why the rates of suicide in chronically ill people are so high, and continuing to climb. The healthcare system in this country is horrific.

They diagnosed my daughter with balimia. After 10 mins with her. They told me she needed to be immediately admitted to the hospital and put undwr 24 hr care. We left there had a good cry together and went home. They were so terrified of her condition that they never called us back when they realized we couldnt afford their " care " and insurance wouldnt cover it. Hospitals are death traps. Run by psychohants that are extremely overpaid which gies to their giant egos.

I just watched the "Take Care of Maya" documentary and I'm so mad! I'm so sorry, and im so ashamed of what these people did to that family, and, unfortunately, so many others!
I am nauseated thinking of the complicated, horrific nightmare this family endured at the hands of these incompetent, bitter and self important people!
Disbelief isn't even enough to describe my feelings at the moment. I recommend anyone to watch this documentary and see for yourselves why The Kowalskis and Maya, especially, deserve these monies for the damages they suffered, still suffer, daily. They will always suffer due to the incompetence and power tripping people who had the lives of all in this family in their hands. One didn't make it out alive, and i am sure there are so, so many other families with familiar stories and circumstances. Thats why this trial had to happen. Its a victory for all families struggling woth a sick child who aren't being listened to.
So, so sad.

The problem isn’t that a CPS enquiry was triggered, the problem is how they treated the family. The hospital staff did pretty outrageous things. All they had to do was do a proper investigation without involving their emotions and ego.

This woman just oozes evil imo. Idk. I just get really icky vibes from her. She did so many questionable things. I get trying to comfort a child, an orphan, or a child whose been physically abused, but Maya had a family. Maya had loves ones fighting to bring her home. She didn't need yo put someone else's kid on her lap! And the photos!!!! Why weren't the parents asked for permission? I believe Maya 100% when she said Cathi told her that her mom was in a mental hospital and that she was adopting her. There was literally no evidence of physical abuse or medical abuse. Beata was amazing at documenting everything (her RN license probably contributed to that) It is absolutely mind boggling to me, that a young girl can show up to the ER with her parent, already diagnosed with CRPS, and a ketamine prescription to treat her, by a lisenced physician, and because their staff didn't "agree/like it" they said "yep, this child is abused." That's really, really scary for any parent watching this unfold. Am I going to be Ok taking my children to the ER if they get hurt or God forbid, become sick with some unknown/rare illness? I just cant believe that hospitals and DCF can do these things? They can quite literally strip a parent of their rights over... an opinion.
If a doctor requested photos why were they not in medical file , if a doctor asked for photos to be taken why did she not go by hospital policy if it was a hospital request ! So glad they won and I hope there appeal gets denied ! So messed up what everyone in this hospital did to get and her family ! 😡
