  • The court saw Catherine 'Cathi' Bedy's full deposition today.
Witness testimony continues Tuesday in a $200 million lawsuit against Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital that was featured in the Netflix documentary ‘Take Care of Maya’. In 2016, at just 10 years old, Maya Kowalski was admitted to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital for severe pain and was removed from the custody of her parents after staff accused them of "medical abuse." Her mother, Beata Kowalski, hung herself in her garage on Jan. 7, 2016 after going months without seeing her due to the medical abuse allegations, according to the family's attorney, Greg Anderson.

The ability of a human being to work beyond the pain, grab moments of joy despite the body they're locked into, it incredible. To deem someone as not being in pain because they're not visibly in anguish is cruel and/or uninformed. To take a child away from their parents because of that ability is criminal.

Maya's mother was a medical professional herself, she had spent an inordinate amount of time researching Maya's condition, and bringing her to doctors who were best suited to treating her. These people gathered like a pack of wolves, with their rat pack mentality, they decided they would show Maya's mother that they would take custody of Maya, more as a punishment to her mother than for the benefit of the child.
They keep deferring blame, but the courts made their decisions based on the crap Bedy and the rest fed them, and to maintain control of Maya, they stuck with the Munchausen by proxy as far as the courts were concerned, but in reality they were accusing Maya of inventing her symptoms, while billing the insurance company for 3 months care treating CRPS.
It is absolutely tragic that Maya's mother had to die in order for the child to be allowed home and get the treatment she needed. I hope criminal charges follow for these people, because they are the highest order of criminals.

I can tell you as someone that has chronic pain, and I’ve had it for over 20 years,
If you’re not a complainer, or if you have a “soldier on” personality, people can forget that you have chronic pain.
That doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
I tend to keep my mouth shut, but then have a complete meltdown every few months.
I had my normal pain level of a 7 of 10 plus had shingles. Then my pain was 10 of 10, and my doctor asked how I was walking around while not on pain medication.

These people are motivated to lie, harm, disable children, or damage their families??? Do you understand that these are people who have trained for years to try to help children???? THEY HAD NO MOTIVE to HARM MAYA OR HER FAMILY. They were acting as COURT MANDATED REPORTERS to report suspicions they had regarding possible child abuse, which clearly existed with Maya, as many of her providers doubted her diagnosis, and were very uncomfortable with the treatment her parents were relentlessly pushing for. THESE PEOPLE WERE NEVER SEEKING TO DESTROY THIS FAMILY. THESE PROFESSIONALS WERE INSTEAD PUTTING THEMSELVES ON THE LINE, TRYING, IN THEIR VIEW, TO PROTECT THIS CHILD. Get down off of your armchair high horses and think critically for a second. Why would all these good people who have spent their careers trying to care for gravely ill children and their families suddenly change into soul sucking, incompetent, evil beasts when it came to Maya and her family? There was NO MALICE. I'm not God. Were they right, or not? Who knows. It's very muddy whether she ever even had this syndrome or not. Reasonable people, highly trained medical professionals, can even obviously disagree. It's all clear as mud. But understand, these professionals are working in incredibly difficult circumstances, trying to do their best for their patients and families!!! Don't believe that? Then keep your children at home and employ your crystals, and voodoo cards the next time they develop an infection, or horrible pain syndrome, and spare us all, especially your children's MEDICAL providers, your obviously supreme sense of all knowing sense of self righteousness. The route THEY felt was best for a child viewed as vulnerable, and likely a victim of child abuse. But you know better, right? Nail them to the wall, right? And then complain, COMPLAIN, MOAN, and scream, when NO ONE WILL ADMIT YOUR CHILD TO THE HOSPITAL for uncontrolled, inexplicable pain because the risk of litigation is too high. As a survivor of child abuse, I will tell you that if Cathi's allegations of child abuse against Beata were true and if Maya was actually abused, she would NOT allow anyone to touch her. She would NOT ask an adult female to comfort her. If Maya was abused by her mother, she would NOT want to be comforted by another adult female, especially the person responsible for separating her from her family.
Her testimony about her "comforting" Maya is proof that Maya was not abused so she basically self-snitched. I hate this lady so much. I have never met a trustworthy social worker in my life. I had my own social worker as a child who sent me back to my abusive home despite me having injuries from abuse.
I also worked closely with social workers while being a youth counselor for kids with behavioral problems. Social workers were never available when there was a crisis and they would use their "therapy sessions" to gaslight kids against certain counselors. Most of the time, social workers in this setting actually caused more problems than they solved, making promises to violent kids, bargaining with these kids so they behaved during their therapy sessions. Then these violent kids would act out when the promises were not kept. The social workers would sneak out to go home and not keep their promises which would cause very violent outbursts and an unsafe environment for the other kids in the cottage.
In the end, we would have to restrain these violent kids in order to protect ourselves and the other kids. This causes unnecessary trauma for the kids and for the youth counselors. When we called the social worker, who caused the problem in the first place, in order to report the incident as we were supposed to do by law, he wouldn't even answer the phone. In my eyes, many social workers are useless and cause more problems than they solve.
There are some good social workers but I've never met any.
Cathi Bedi is among the worst I have ever witnessed and this is just the testimony. I'm sure I would be thoroughly disgusted watching her in action first hand.

We would take him to our local hospital and pediatrician several times. Our local hospital took xrays and it showed trapped gas. These continued on for about a month. We went on weekend 4th of July vacation. Our son continued to complain of stomach pain once again at night only. We took him to a different hospital where we were on vacation at when the ER doctor examined our son he told us he was having appendicitis and surgey was needed. Because we questioned the diagnosis and just asked if we should get a second opinion because want our hospital and his pediatrician had been telling us about the trap gas we were reported to child protective services the hospital that we were denying medical care which was not the case. Luckily the case worker believed us and our son had his surgery.

How could hospital staff think by keeping parents away from their child this could be good for the well-being and healing of the patient.
They could have had supervision or a camera could have been put in the room with a waiver.
The simplest thing was to contact the Physician in Mexico about the protocols used for ketamine treatment. Mom didn’t pull this out of thin air.

This woman has no guilt that a mother took her life. because of some of her actions. Maya was put through pure hell in of all places a hospital. This woman should have been stripped of all licenses. As well as charged for child abuse & endangerment. This mother was only guilty of loving her child deeply. Taking a child out of the U S for med care is costly. Proving the mother would go through fire to help her child. Maya was one brave child. She is one brave young lady. Most people do not understand chronic pain. I have delt with it beginning in my late 20's. I am always in pain. For 10 years I was treated like a mental case or famer of pain to get drugs. Because it changed each day. Finally, a DR paid attention. He had me admitted to an Orthopedic ward. Guess what my spine & joints are a hot mess. Maya reacted to the pain in the same way I do. If it is a better day be as active as you can. The bad days are a different matter. This broad is still acting as though Maya was faking the pain W T F ! @@dianealarcon8304

Cops also work extended shifts, they do WAY more work and it's potentially incredibly dangerous, do they get the same credit? Hell no. When I was in the Marine I would work 12-14 hours a day of very hard labor that would make you bust your knees and back, I would work 7 days a week on borderline minimum wage, and I don't expect people to say that I did shit, because it was my job, neither should nurses and especially doctors who earn WAY way more than I did doing far easier work.
The staff at JHCH were grossly negligent, instead of doing their due diligence to investigate CRPS and ask Beata what was going on, they went ahead and framed her as an abuser with Munchausen By Proxy, and consistently fought against the Kowalskis so the family courts would alienate Beata from Maya, they failed their due diligence, all they had to do was investigate CRPS and why Beata was dosing Maya with Ketamine, they would have found Beata had a legitimate doctors prescription, and they would have understood Maya was at no risk of abuse given Beata was educated on the matter, in fact, Ketamine right now is a legal prescription! They were grossly negligent.
And to say hospital staff are angels is a gross exaggeration, nurses have raped and killed patients in the past, just a couple months ago in Okinawa there was a Navy nurse dosing newborns with some kind of drug to keep them quiet because it bothered her, she hated babies, the nurses and childcare fields are FULL of abusers wanting to take advantage of helpless individuals. It has been drummed into healthcare providers' heads that pain for our patients is not what we think we are observing only but MAINLY from what the patients say it is. Also if someone has had chronic pain for an extended period of time, they get used to it and does not display symptoms the same way as someone who recently started feeling pain. This is why we rely mostly on what they tell us and that is why pain assessment is now the 6th vital signs.

Her Kissing Maya & telling her she wanted to Adopt her tells me everything about her motives. No wonder Maya feels traumatized by this controlling judgemental woman. A social worker who doesn't believe a child about her pain shouldn't be anywhere near children. She also doesn't understand how people in chronic continual pain throughout the body show behaviour's different to injury pain. I live with Chronic Pain so I know. The Chronic Pain Specialist is the Doctor they should have collaborated with for Maya, they failed this family & took Maya from her emotional support system & wrongly blamed Biata. Biata was a fierce loving protective Mum, not the sadist they made her out to be. Shame on all of them.

My daughter at 15 had an extended medical condition that kept her in the hospital for months at a National recognized local Childrens hospital wherein I learned early that the nursing staff quickly dominates your life. If they feel the slightest of control issues by a parent the retribution was apparent. Every time my daughter had a visitor was the only time a nurse would always sit atadesk area outside her room. I realized certain conversations of my daughter getting physically sick and I would clean her as opposed to waiting on nurses would be mentioned after guests left in a flippant manner. I can easily see how these people can manipulate information for control and retribution. In retrospect being in shock and concern for your child’s health then being challenged could quickly go sideways. Luckily her doctors were actually amazing but the majority of young nurses were very petty and controlling. I also mentioned early on that I worked for a medical malpractice law firm, generally helps.

Very respectful of your situation and yes, there are many petty and controlling nurses, but being a nurse myself, I always knew my patients were my responsibility and it was kind of like being in charge of knowing everything your patient did in an 8-12 hour shift as to why as a nurse, I would keep close tabs on my patient. It is a nurse’s responsibility to know when meds are given, Iv administration, new symptoms, peeing, pooping, with descriptions and sometimes measurement, emisis, movement of patients, monitors, managing and prepping for tests, charting, blood sugars, catheter, any food and drink taken…the list is literally endless. With all due respect , sometimes family members seemed dubious of nurses controlling attitude, but some of it is due to this. 20 years in healthcare and I rarely had any problems with family members. There were only a few times when I didn’t get a mutual respect with family members.
I’m sorry to hear your daughter was sick. Hope she is better. Healthcare has definitely changed in the last 20 years.

She is absolutely disgusting. What she put the Kowalski family through is absolutely horrific. She needs to face criminal charges.
She should also be sued for wrongful death. Her actions were a direct cause for Beata's suicide. What that woman went through to help her child just to have her child taken away. Then to be accused of child abuse.
There is a special place in hell for pcs of human garbage like Cathi Bedy. She literally tried blaming everyone else for her actions. She blamed the court for keeping Maya from her family but it was Cathi's biased findings that led to everything that happened. She was the source of the issues. People make decisions based on the findings of the social workers. Cathi Bedi was actually there during conversations between Beata and Maya. From what I understand, Cathi would roll her eyes and other disrespectful behavior during this time. She is despicable. She didn't even know anything about Maya's disorder OR the amounts of ketamine prescribed by actual specialists prior to Maya being hospitalized. Her false allegations of abuse were solely based on doctors in Johns Hopkins saying that the certain amounts of ketamine requested by Beata, a nurse, were possibly dangerous despite Maya being on those doses prior to hospitalization. Her false allegations were not even based on facts. Just her bias.
My concern, based on what I've heard about Cathi's behavior towards Maya, leads me to believe that Cathi herself may be a child predator. The way she was all touchy feely towards Maya is concerning. I survived child abuse and molestation and I get very bad vibes about this. I wonder if Cathi Bedy purposely falsely accused Beata of abuse in order to get Maya alone. Maya was vulnerable so I wonder if Cathi tried to gaslight or groom Maya at that time. I mean she was actually in physical contact with Maya.
She looks like a predator to me. Also, she shows no remorse for what she did as she doubled and tripled down on her innocence. It was always someone else's fault. She only did what she was told. She had already done her damage by falsely accusing Beata. In her narcissistic abusive mind, everyone else was to blame including Beata.

The only way her daughter was going to be free would be for her to be out of the picture. I dont think she was overwhelmed with sadness that she could not see her, that would be a huge part of it, but I think that day, she realized that she could no longer allow her family to be held captive. She was right, Mia was immediately released to her father. I hope they get the maximum amount that they can get and if the judge does not require the licensures of this woman to be stripped and her affiliation with that hospital to be immediately revolked than I think if I were her father I would move next to sue her organization, not for the money, but that she be unable to work in this field again. That would be my plea deal, she goes and I wont sue. She stays and I will take it all the way I have to for it to happen. And, yes, I dont give up. THIS i trial has brought up my horrible memories of my experience at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn Mi as a 11 year old child with debilitating muscle and joint pain (latter diagnosed by Henry Ford Hospital as Polymiositis) Oakwood doctors could not find a cause for my pain and so decided it was psychosomatic. Without my parent,s knowledge, a charismatic doctor took me at night to a section of the hospital where no one was (I have memories of a roof, but that can't be) He told me how special I was and he had a shot that was a new medicine that would enable me to walk for one hour. The shot was a placebo. When I first stood up the pain was very bad but he kept insisting I keep trying. I didn't want to displease him so I did walk for a bit but not without pain. The next morning they informed my parents that I should be taken to a mental hospital. I was almost convinced it was all in my mind but for my parents who refused to believe (my Mom had attended my pains in the night) I wince to think what would have happened if that Munchausen Proxy was known about then. I am 74 today and have Connective Tissue Disease, related to my childhood polymiositis.
