Hey man, hello from the States. This video was invaluable for my install. Thanks for putting this on RUclips! I don’t know how I would have figured everything out without your guidance. It was like having a buddy show me what to do. I’m so stoked to have my SRC crash bars and skid plate installed. I’m proud of my work.
I ended up going with the T-rex crash bars. Much more coverage, and offers great places for some fog/spotlights that I need to install for night riding.
Dear SRC thanks for the innovation and quality you are putting into your products. This guy sold me a set of your bars.. You should know that.. Hahaha. I received my set today and am impressed with the quality. Install should be breeze. Thanks for your help, I enjoyed your "Test" video too.. Thanks!
So great to see that these kinds of protection mods are coming out quick for the new KLR. I really love this whole set. You can see multiple areas of improvement over the motech plate. I find on that plate there's a few spots where the plate, frame, and engine come into contact. I recently popped mine off and put on some rubber padding and caked on several layers of truck bed liner too. But this SRC plate looks really solid and very form fitting. Great parts choice.
My respect goes out to you for fitting these on your own, spent the last 30 min trying to line up the bolts for the foot pegs with no luck. It doesn’t help that it’s about 38 deg in my garage, will get an extra pair of hands later today and finish the job.
It was tricky, especially filming at the same time. What worked for me was getting it square by grabbing the front of the crash bar, using my knees and lining it up that way. Or just get someone to help haha. Good luck
The following is from SRC. I made an inquiry after seeing they didn't have any parts available for a KLR650 and Scott got back to me right away.. We are the North American distributor for SRC. There is an Australian distributor. We felt that the cost of the KLR parts was too high compared to similar competitive products, so we have been negotiating with SRC Designs to come up with a way to lower the cost and we just recently came to terms on that and that, so now we have the KLR parts on order.
People have been struggling to find the links so I'll put them below. Also some answers for you. These are the retail version, so what you see is what you get. The weight is 2.6kg a side (5.2kg total). They fit the adventure model, but you will have to remove the stock engine bars. Any other questions fire away. If I've helped you out, hit that SUBSCRIBE button. srcadventuremoto.com.au/products/kawasaki-klr650-crash-bars-full-upper-lower-protection www.srcmoto.com/ I'm in contact with the Australian importer, but USA stock is due to arrive in April. Shopping is a nightmare ATM though.
Hey Curtis, I have been in touch with Tony @SRC you right he's a great guy and we looking at getting his product over to me in NZ. Thanks for your help talk soon Norm
Excellent informative vid, as have been the previous one's. I live 30 kms from the SRC factory and have had dealings with them in the past for a couple of my bike's. Absolutely top quality design and manufacture across there product range. Great staff always helpful and happy to see you when you visit the factory, and will show you around to view the products being made. Also they will fit what you buy free of charge. Great bike, great accessories and great vids. Look forward to the next one,
Here in Thailand most high end duel sport bike's are loaded with SRT protection and accessories. As you point out in the vid on the Klr bash plate .the quality of the Mig welding is outstanding, and all done 100% by hand,.
Those are great looking crash bars. Best by far of any I have seen. If I can get some I hope they will fit alright with my Happy Trails bash plate. I also agree with you that the AX41 tires will work out great.
WOW... pretty I went with the Happy Trails bash plate I haven't done my crash bars yet... I'm still deciding on that but these SRC's look good and since you've already crashed yours you are right where the damage is done the most.
Well done Kurtis. Discovered you channel at about the time you moved to the U.S. Long time viewer of your videos. As an ex-owner of a Gen 2 KLR I really enjoy watching your KLR videos and our riding styles are similar. Thanks for sharing your experiences and keep up the great videos.
These definitely look great compared to the butt ugly competitors. I really wish they would utilize the rear anchors on the bottom frame rails vs the notoriously fragile footpeg mounts. I may buy these and modify them myself. It would be doable. Thanks for posting the overall weight, that helps.
I love your dits Curtis. It's interesting how these bars mount again to the foot pegs. The original SW Motech Gen2 bars did, until they and everyone else realised that the pegs were held on by just four threads on the Gen2. They then moved to clamping their bars to the bottom of the cradle. How are the foot peg mounts or threads on this new model?
FYI. This is from Scott at SRC... We are the North American distributor for SRC. There is an Australian distributor. Looks like Shugyo is all over it. I did hear through the gen 3 Facebook page Scott was getting some imported l, you'd have to give him a call though to find out
Guess the dealer who I was considering buying a 2022 KLR from lied to me. I told him I was considering doing my own crash bars and he said it needed to be drilled into the bike... That I might want to let them do it... I don't recall you making new screw holes into the bike on this video at all lol...
Hi Mark. They are good, not amazing. I would like a bit more protection overall, completely understand I crash more than most and would be fine for the average Jo. They are being redesigned so I would wait for them
I think thats the nicest crash bars & bash plate I've seen so far, tho I prefer a plate with the Lowe link cover Also ya didn't actually put $ or links into the description, as you said you would :P
Would you be able to fit a centre stand on the same area where the foot pegs mount having these bars mounted there, if so what brand would you consider ?
I honestly haven't looked into getting a centre stand. I'll see if anyones got first hand experience and can answer for you and do some research in the mean time
Thanks for the reply Mate, I have placed the order for these SRC bars, guess we will have too see later when i fit a centre stand, I was looking at the T Rex racing centre stand
Curious to know if you get much vibration on the crashbars when on the road. I've got the same ones installed and when I reach down and touch the bars when travelling 80km/hr or more there is a fair bit of vibration happening on the bars and a little bit back through the footpegs.
First thoughts are, maybe a little bit through the pegs. I haven't reached down and touched them when riding, but can't say there's been a huge difference. I've got to do some more riding with them on and I'll let you know
@@onthebackwheel Thanks, I tried to call to see if they have a shipping option to NZ, I think they maybe closed but I will try again on Monday. Happy riding and stay upright.

Yeah I'm very happy with the initial impressions. Adding rubber padding is a great idea

How can I order some up. I love these, I am in S California and a new KLR being delivered tomorow.

Adding these to my list of stuff to get, I do see I will have to get rid of the stock lower bars but is well worth it for more protection

Thanks Charles, really appreciate it. Good to hear there's another bloke out there who rode the KLR like me
Thanks mate for the awesome video. I am going to try and get a set of the awesome crash bars sent over to NZ. They look mean
I've been waiting on this one
I've got sharper Q-tips mate! Love the Vids!!

I like your garage.
Cheers. Its an absolute mess ATM with renovations, can't wait for it to be back like it was here

Those crash bars look legit - better than OEM.
They are fantastic. Looking forward to testing them out on the trails
Sorry love the dirt racks - way more protection and adding lights and front bags. And way cheaper.
Are these available to the public yet? Would love to pick some up in the states if you can provide a link as google was not too helpful.
The company website doesn't show any products available for the KLR (it's who you know)

Best looking Bars i've seen yet! Any idea if you can mount Highway pegs on them?
Oh not sure as I've never used highway pegs. You might be able to with a little work
My Adventure comes with crash bars but there minimal. Not sure if yours would fit the Adventure ?
Yes they'll fit 👊
Guess the dealer who I was considering buying a 2022 KLR from lied to me. I told him I was considering doing my own crash bars and he said it needed to be drilled into the bike... Haha definitely lied too or they didn't know what they were talking about. Not sure which is better...
Excellent!
When you dropped the skid plate what are those two hoses that came down?
Breather hoses or fuel overflow id say
Hi Curtis, great vids - can I ask what brand jack you use for the rear wheel 2022 KLR? Cheers 👍🏻
It's just a generic street bike stand. I certainly wouldn't call it perfect. The brand is Torpedo 7 but it looks the same as all the cheapies
Will the crash bars work on the adventure model as well?
Yes, you will have to remove the ADV engine bars though. No great loss imo
hi curtis are you still happy with your src crash bars now that you have had them a year regards mark

Did you notice some wacky vibration on the bars? I heard there was a recall.
Not me personally, there is a new redesigned model coming out that I should be getting

Definitely these crash bars add vibrations. Any suggestions on how to reduce it?
Any idea if these crash bars will fit with a B and B bash plate?
Not exactly sure, but I don't see why not. Swing them an email and see what they say
Hey Curtis, did you order these direct from SRC? How long was the delivery time? Cheers Norm
Yeah direct from SRC. It took a few weeks from memory. I spoke with Tony there and he was great
@@onthebackwheel Thanks, I tried to call to see if they have a shipping option to NZ, I think they maybe closed but I will try again on Monday. Happy riding and stay upright.
@@Norm4man fair enough. Swing them an email. I might give him a buzz for you too if you don't have any luck
That's steep price considering the price of Tusk bars is around $160. These look much better but that doesn't justify cost being $600 by any means.
$600?! That's a lot
@@onthebackwheel I think they are around $500 here.
I just looked up the SRC website. The prices are prohibitively expensive. Its a NO from me. Guess I`ll buy in the US. Insane.
