This is the most underrated ABBA song. The instrumental arrangement is 2nd to none and Frida's vocal is magnificent. The way she holds that last note, the climax of the song and the subject, gives me chills. Her voice is vulnerable just like the theme of the song. I am so glad you got to this. She is the song. Agnetha comes in with perfect harmony.

It’s so wonderful seeing the sheer joy on your face when you’re discovering a new Abba gem. Really beautiful underrated song and Frida’s voice is like velvet ❤

Frida has in my humble opinion the best female singing voice we've ever heard. And no disrespect to Agnetha's superb voice.

So much so that I've only just found out (after 100 years of having the album, as have we all) that Frida doesn't just sing lead on the 2 singles we all know from "Arrival" album, but also the female chorus of 'Why Did It Have To Be Me', I thought they were both there! But Frida, too long barely shown on songs on the early early albums, and only when it was a gentle one, giving us the impression she only sings gently, but you can really hear the fire in this. She'd match Agnetha if she was there-in fact thought she was, didn't help that critics think they are and say so accordingly!
She alternates between honeyed beauty and gentility to the eerie, spooky slow-burn of 'The Visitors', to the raging fire and steel of 'Should I Laugh Or Cry' and the stalwart acceptance and bravery of 'When All Is Said And Done'. Listen to how she alternates with Agnetha on the gorgeous 'I Am The City'-the two's vocals never touch-yet they are put in right next to each other, swapping at a second's moment, such a brilliant approach and never commented on. And Frida never sings the song's title, but then Agnetha never sings the 'You Owe Me One' title, and Frida is kind of snide and dangerous on that too. And then listen to her Skat-singing in 'Me And I'. And what about her heart drawn-out and bleeding belting of the globally underrated 'Cassandra'-along with 'I Am The City 'one of the most brilliant songs ever made, yet all people tend to do is wax lyrical about a handful of big ones when they were 'in'.

Excellent review. Frida's held note at the end (Abba's longest held note) is a top 10 moment in their canon.

I'm more of an Agnetha fan. I can't deny how sensational Frida is as well. This song brings back the memories of simpler times. I would play Super Trouper endlessly. They still bring me great joy. Thanks Luke for Abba videos. Love seeing your appreciation for them. Love❤the❤way❤you❤love❤Abba Luke.

On low, sulty songs like this Frida does a sort of "purr" with her voice. I don't know if there's a musical term for it. Something to do with vibrato? Then Agnetha adds the high, clear notes in the background that sort of push everything forward.

You are a real romantic Lukas ❤️ I completely agree with you that Andante Andante is one of Abba's best ballads. You get goosebumps when Frida sings with her emotional voice. Also agree that romance these days is not the same as it used to be, now it has to go fast and fast. And don't have TIME to let love blossom💫🙏... Thank you for being so talented and daring to show your feelings 😋 ⭐🎉🐦🕊️🌹

Andante is one of those descriptions in Italian that composers usually place over the musical staff, to establish the right way to interpret a music and its rhythm. A translation of it could be "loose". With this song it turns out Andante Andante is the right tempo to make love ... and sex.

I may get some hate for this but IMO no one can tell a story like Agnetha and Frida’s voice is technical perfection. Together they are flawless. Every ABBA fan prefers one or the other and it’s a personal preference. It’s not a competition .

I like Agnetha and Frida equally. They are my two favourite vocalists by far and I find it astonishing that they both ended up in the same group together. Then there is the musical genius of Benny and the lyrical genius of Bjorn. In my view best group of all time by a country mile. I can be that woman from Voyage confirms Agnetha's unrivalled ability to convey emotion and relate a story. She still has it. They all do. Don't forget Abba's third voice, A and F harmonising together... incredible. One more Album (please). Apologies... Accidentally clicked thumbs down, but clicked thumbs up to compensate.

Interesting. I love both of them and enjoy when each is the lead and I really love when they sing together. I do not understand why people do this, especially with females, create a competition. How can you compare them? They are 2 different voices with different skills and sounds. I am glad I am an ABBA fan more than I want Frida or Agnetha to "win" the silly competitions. They both tell stories and do it well but differently. How can anyone not love The Winner Takes it All or I Let The Music Speak? Magnificent stories. Anyway, take care and I am so glad you said it is not a competition. Bravo for you.
