  • Avenir was a French Passenger and Car Ferry which operated between 1967 and 1975. Her base was Marseille and she offered her ferry service in the mediterranean sea.
The model was built by Gerold Brunner who already created fantastic models such as Queen Elisabeth II and France where you might find respective videos in this channel. Again he remained in his favourite scale 1/200 resulting in a 65 cm model. This tiny and fragile piece was constructed out of a Heller plastic model where Gerold turned it into a fully operational RC model as you might observe in this video.
The footage was taken during our 2013 annual boat show case, where - as you might see from the "huge" rain drops - the weather was very unsympathetic with us.

Well done for balancing the hull which is a difficult exercise, with this model that I know well.

Eventough the model is already several years old the look is fantastic. It is amazing what can be achieved in 1:200 scale! Congratulations, Gerold!

Excellent effects, you've raised the bar on this one.

Very true! Something which really was astonishing to me are wave created by the model. At some point you can even see how the waves are traveling ahead the bow. And this with such a small model! Amazing!

How hard was it to convert this 1:200 scale model to rc?

Fantastic,...everything on this clip! Informative and we'll cutted! And an amazing modell! I totally dismissed it's size until the big ocean waves appeared (and the ü-ei b buoy with the divers flag ;-) ),..wow!

65cm is quite big for a plastic model. Unfortunately there aren't many civilian ships in that size.

I remember very well of this ship ..! I retired some years ago of Merchand Marine as an officer . I start my career as a cadet in the Cie de Navigation Mixte aboard ElDjezaïr , Président de Cazalet , Kerouan .... Nice Ships !!!

Thanks. Yes, a different element for a change. It took some time to edit but I think it was worth it. Glad you like it.

Thanks! And beneath the buoy is a waterproof diorama of a sunken WWII submarine (which can be seen in some other videos, such as "Lady Pisamai and U47" or in the latest "Nautilus" vid in this channel.

Beautiful ship. I saw it in a store recently and also thought about an RC conversion. I might have some etched railings and stairs left.
I don't know prices and availability in the past but if that was difficult it's probably better now 🙂
How much does it weight? Based on the size and comparison to the ca. 85cm Graupner Neptun it might be around 1kg.
