  • This week David and Marina, Partners at FAME Architecture and Interior Design discuss the 5 questions clients should ask their architects before hiring them. Not all architects work the same way and it’s important that you know what you are getting. www.famearchitects.com/
    (00:00) Introduction
    (01:17) Experience: Ask what their profession-specific experience is. Project-specific experience is not necessarily as important as profession-specific experience (e.g. architecture vs construction vs interior design).
    (11:43) Scope: Ask what physical parts of the project they will design, plan, and specify and not. Some architects will only design certain parts of a building.
    (11:43) Process: Ask for a description of the overall project process phases and what the architect will do during each of the phases. Not all architects provide the same level of services throughout a project.
    (11:43) Deliverables: Ask what drawings, materials, and documentation the architect will provide. There are basic deliverables that architects should provide, make sure you will get them.
    (11:43) Contract: Ask for an explanation of their contract. Do not assume short contracts are better than long ones.
    FAME is a luxury residential architecture and interior design office founded by French Architect and Interior Designer Marina Bourderonnet and American Architect David Bruce Lee. The office is distinguished by its unique designs, diverse experience, and comprehensive services.

    I think, obviously the client needs to watch what exactly is going to get and it´s our responsability as an architects deliver all the info in order to evoid confussion and makes the client understand the project 100% . So that´s why BIM methodology is critical. Architectural plans, technical details, 3D rendering and quantification from the 3D virtual building.

      I hope the 3d work goes well! There'll probably be a few things revealed when it's viewed in 3d. Nice metal work btw :)

    Who is better to hire? A architect or a licensed residential designer? For a custom home?

    • @fame_architects
      @fame_architects 3 месяца назад

      For a custom home, you will want an architect.
      Licensed residential designers may only be a thing where you are, or in some other select places. In California, that title does not really exist. Architects have to do 5-6 of education, take 6 exams, and have several years of experience. The bar to become a licensed residential designer is significantly lower.
      Of course, there are good architects and bad ones, and there are good designers and bad ones. But assuming all the professionals you are considering are 'good ones', then the answer is an architect.
      All of the good/great architects design the full building, including the interiors. It is a holistic approach. Where the scope of the architect typically stops however is at furnishing. Though many of the top tier architecture offices do furnishing as well.

    Do I have to pay my architect up front? Do I pay them a hold for the plans and then pay through construction loan?

    • @secondstudiopod
      @secondstudiopod  9 месяцев назад +2

      Hello! I am not sure I fully understand the question. But I'll give it a shot: Yes you can use a construction loan to pay your architect. However, in the residential space it depends on the project. New houses, you can. Remodels, you cannot. FYI this is if you're in California. I've heard different things for other places. When and how much an architect is paid varies greatly from office to office. Some fees are on an hourly basis, others are fixed, and others' fees are a % of the construction cost. Usually though there's a retainer of some kind up front (not the whole amount). The only time that a significant portion of the fee is paid upfront is when the fee is fixed. But again, it varies a lot.
