- May 8, 1987 - Midway through Game 3 of the 1987 Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, Detroit Pistons forward Rick Mahorn discreetly pushed an airborne Dominique Wilkins, inciting a short-lived skirmish culminating in Kevin Willis handing out a free piggyback ride to Isiah Thomas. The fallout from this altercation: a common foul on Mahorn.

Isaiah jumps on Kevin Willis' back and Willis still was focused on Mahon. WILLIS wanted all the smoke.
He shoulda just fell backwards on Isaiah
Sounds like you know Big Oak and Willis battled it out for the NBA's Strongest Man Contest. Willis is still in great shape. (thumbs up)
@Cryptic Parable 20 seconds later willis is right next to mahron and did nothing, guess that smoke cleared up real quick
Dumars in the fray as well. Go Bad Boys!
Isiah was like a human backpack to Willis, one with very few books in it.
Look how Kevin Willis just pushes the ref out of the way. Now you get a 10 game suspension if you bump a ref
1:16 for this clip. Yep.
He pushed a black ref.
The punishment for bumping into a ref is being booted from the game--no suspension unless it's malicious
@@darshloaf That's for bumping into a white ref.
@@darshloaf in today’s era, your statement wouldn’t be true.
That was a great era of the NBA. Not like today
Golden days when Flopping is not yet invented
@SilverBlackGuerrilla Don't forget Bill Laimbeer
@SilverBlackGuerrilla Bron is Vlade's best pupil. Divac was exceptional at flopping but James took it to another level. Queen Diva is the Flop GOAT. Speaking of defense and lateral movement - Pistons had two of the best at it (Rodman and Dumars). Check any list of top 10 greatest perimeter defenders all-time and you'll see both of them cats. Along with Sidney Moncrief, Alvin Robertson, Michael Cooper, Gary Payton, Dennis Johnson, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. I saw them all in person while in their primes and none of them flopped. You have your eras a little mixed up.

And your point?
So what
They make good backpacks in the hoods of Chicago?

2. Did mahorn hit dominique's face and shoulder?
Where was the foul ?
Only a dunker will understand this: but when you go up for a dunk (which I believe Nique was gonna do) u sacrifice everything & ur extremely vulnerable, a light tap can send you flying, so even though it wasn't a hard foul, but if ur going to defend a play like that go straight up head to head or u could injure the guy.
Oh yeah! Nique was gonna double-pump reverse dunk. Mahorn just didn't want to be on that vintage door size poster.
@@katrinachavez3533 pretty much
Willis never noticed that isiah was on his back
LOL dude was basically piggy back riding him and he wasn't even aware
Literally the softest foul of the 80s
You got that right! Back in the day.......... Every game was a knock-down drag-out straight-up fight to the end! Tons of blows and bruises were mixed together, along with a better style of straight-up basketball, ya know?!!
That was a clean block actually.

It’s funny how Isaiah jumped on Willis back 😂
And Willis act like he did not even feel him. 😅😅🤣🤣

@@kingjohn6278 Yeah, he almost made Mahorn unconscious when he swung on him, (from laughing ).
Does Karl Malone giving Zeke 40 stitches for messing with Stockton count?
These days that’d be a technical II, ejection, fine, a week of sensitivity training, and a public apology with a shout out to China.
ha ha ha
And that's no hyperbole!
Lol
Willis giving out piggyback rides. 😅
Nobody on that court wants a piece of Kevin Willis. One of the strongest men to ever play in the league.
What are you talking about? The smallest non-Spud, jumped on Willis' back
1:16 Kevin Willis shoves the referee from behind. Today, automatic suspension and $100K fine. 😂🤣
Sir Charles "Chuck" Barkley, always donated , his fines to charity & tax shelters. A cat would have matriculated through four or five years of a university education, to know that peril of wisdom. 😌
Yeah the league had to come up with a plan to soften up 6 feet 200 plus men into females ...
@@timelesskoontah you can thank late NBA commissioner David Stern for this.
@@EFunkRock ohh ok didn't know he was the one who did that come to think of it he does look kinda fruity..
Yeah, Today's NBA is a weak league
Playing in those days were definitely tough. Imagine every time driving to the hoop with the possibility of getting severely injured. Something Lebron, Curry and other current stars know nothing about
Rent free.
Zeke stayed jumping on somebody’s back 😂😂😂
Man...It's like night and day, in terms of how the league just let situations play out then vs how they are handled today.
Looked like a clean aggressive play by Mahorn.
You must pay attention to Mahorn left hand, while he is trying to block the shot, he is pushing Nique lower back causing him to lose his balance in the air.
Mahorn gave a pretty good push from behind with his left arm. And you can bet it wasn't an isolated incident. It was the final straw.
That’s what I was thinking
That is a classic!
wasn't even a hard foul
When you are up that high it is. Mahorn and Lame-Beer were horrible. Dominique such a great player - you would never see a great defender like Bobby Jones pull that BS
Kevin Willis was about to phuck somebody up!!! LOL😁
Love Dominique but that would not even been flagrant by today's standards
I think the devil's in the details on this one. That left-handed push on an airborne player (seen at the 1:00 mark) is what I imagine to be Wilkins' primary objection. I think that'd be an automatic in today's game, and rightfully so.
Bad boys! What a great team that was and they didn't back down from nobody.
Isiah jumped on his back!!!! Wow!!
Lmao 😆
Isaiah is getting a piggy back ride from Kevin Willis.
Zeke had his full name on his jersey
Trying to remember whom the other Thomas might’ve been.
Nique was thinking of doing a reverse dunk on the bad boys, he must be nuts smh
Looks like a clean block and Willis had a fly on his neck
LMAO 🤣 🤣 Man Kevin Willis LITERALLY pushed a ref out of the way to get to Mahorn!!.. My dude would've been exiled and banned from the league if that would've happened today!!.. #ahhthegoodoldays
Past NBA: hard foul! 😮 Very entertaining
Today NBA: gives tech to everyone 🤣
Boston legendary radio announcer Johnny Most saw Mahorn and Laimbeer stretching and warming up before a game in the old Garden. Johnny broke out into a diatribe against the two of them: " look at those two thugs, they don't need a ball to play this game. That's not what they're in there for..... they're in there to hurt people, break bones.... the two dirtiest....they should be held over for the wrestling program coming into the Garden this weekend.... " The opening jump ball hadnt happened and Johnny's blood pressure was already off the charts.

OK, so FYI, the "Piggyback Ride" part of the title is clickbait. There is no piggyback ride. What IS shown is Isaiah Thomas grabbing Willis' upper body to hold him back from going after Mahorn.
Isiah Thomas went for a ride on Kevin Willis back. Lol.
Isaiah was all up in that...too awesome
Man I miss these days, hard fouls, & fierce competition especially in the playoffs

I wonder what's the connection with Isaiah and Kevin Willis..it look like he was tryna save him like he jumped on his back and said yo it's me Isaiah Thomas dont do this shyt😂
Hard to catch, but he pushed him mid-air with his left arm.
The nucleus of the Bad Boys, Rick Mahorn. And the announcer said Mahorn came from behind to block the shot? In the video when Nique went up Mahorn clearly shoved him from behind. It wasn't even close, that's why he went flying out of bounds.
Ahhh gold old days.. the attitude era.. back then nba was nba.. real mens basketball

The Pistons were a dirty team back then but there was actually nothing wrong with the foul on this play. Watch the play in slow mo there wasn't anything flagrant going on here!
I thought I was the only one who felt this was.
Stop it... the nba was just a different league then... the celtics admitted they were dirtier than the Pistons... the difference is simple... Detroit won when everyone rooted for Bird, Magic, or Jordan..
It was. He pushed him out of the air with his left arm. That’s probably a flagrant 1 if the modern flagrant foul system was in place.
🤣🤣
Dominique was pushed while in flight to basket !!!! Hard and dangeours foul
I loved when they allowed the game to be physical. I have nothing bad to say about today's game (actually i do but i wont lol) other than it doesn't hold my interest at all. I dont know if its because we'r'e constantly inundated with it and have been spoiled because of so much more access, or whether the league actually dismantled the essence of basketball (particularly in regards to defense) and competition...or maybe im just an old fart stuck in the past lol...probably the latter lol.
No it's not just that, the sport has lost it's competitive spirit and the essence with which made it great. It's virtually unwatchable now, no point watching something where people are only allowed to compete offensively, it is pathetic and does the sport and real fans a great disservice.
That was nothing! Especially for back in the day! DW was just mad!🤣🤣🤣
It was a cheap foul on the part of Mahorn.
I'd say a lot of animosity was built up from previous Mahorn run-ins. Good for 'Nique in sending a message.
Glad that Willis wasn't suspended, as that wasn't anything to suspend. Some of the NBA rules today are so gay.
@@ronaldm.6150 man DW just overreacted! 🤣🤣🤣

That wasn't a foul
It was , he pushed him in the air take a look at Mahorn's left hand .
That was not even a hard foul he just fell hard.
Mahorn would just straight up foul you face to face, that's what I liked about him. So many players like Bill Cartwright or Dell Curry or Ainge would do the sneaky elbow "going for a rebound" and break your face, or to the back of the head and knock you out.
Isiaiah coping a feel...lol

Look at Mahornes left hand. He definitely pushed him in the back in the air.
I thought the 80s was so tough, that foul on my man Nique was not as bad as he acted it out to be. I’m sure his reaction was built up or off Mahorns rep.
Compared to the NBA now, Lingerie Football League is tougher. Professional bowlers are tougher. Olympic archery is more physical.
If it was today, that series would have been ruined by all the fines and suspensions. People say that today's players are soft. I would disagree. It is those running the league that have gotten soft. Players today would be no different than those in the past if the chains were let loose. Rather than flop and complain, which is an advantage in today's league, A freight train like Lebron would freely and unabashedly run over people. It was the malice at the Palace incident that I can remember changed the league for the worst. The league just does not want to risk the lawsuits, lost revenue from sponsors pulling out and ugly optics from a riot like that happening again. So we went from the National Ballers Association to the National Ballet Association. A pity.
Perfectly perfectly and perfectly explained. Im in my 40s. Watched NBA for decades but it was the Malace in the Palace that was the last straw. The league wanted to make sure this "never" happens again even to a semi degree due to exactly how ypu explained it base on lose of sponsors etc
Back when Men played in the NBA
Marv Albert just said "Yes!"

I miss 90s nba. Game had more substance and style. Plus we had FANS IN STANDS and not all this social distancing b.s. in the stands.
Mahorn was a dirty thug but that wasn't too bad of a foul. And I don't blame him for not wanting to be on Nique's highlight film. Rick vs Willis would have been better than Fury vs Wilder.
