Pre WWII Sheffield was beautiful, we've lost so many excellent buildings.

So true. It breaks my heart to see some of the stuff that was destroyed, and not just by the Luftwaffe. The council did their best to finish the job throughout the 60s.

Fascinating film and beautifully cleaned up with AI. Let’s hope that f there is a colour version it get’s the tram colour right (they were deep blue, not red like the ‘cover’ picture!
    Very well done.

59 years before I was born and I recognise the street scenes. Brilliant video. :) Maybe and likely the Atkinson's store on the left of The Moor, is the predecessor of the modern Atkinson's store in the 1960s?

Seen the original of this film several times. However, this enhanced wersion is stunning. The clarity and detail is amazing.
The spur off to the left on the Moor to the old horse tram shed on Hodgeson Street can be seen clearly. Obviously now out of use as the tracks have been covered over as they enter the side street.

Those trams were such cool steampunk-esque contraptions. Can you imagine what a thrill it must have been just to travel into town back then? Nowadays people avoid the town centers because they're dreary & depressing

Excellant. This is what my Great Grand parents and my Grand parents, as children, would have known. A valuable piece of local history.

The way the tram drivers drove standing up at the wheel and without a window to protect them from the cold and the rain to control everything apparently... 😁

@@livinghistoryaienhancedThank you for re-mastering and sharing this important piece of history. It is so fascinating to see how well people dressed up to go into town. Nearly everyone wearing a hat - top hats, bowlers, boaters, flat caps and bonnets! The buildings look a bit drab because back then they were all blackened with smoke from the houses and factories. The people look so dapper and industrious as they go about their daily business. Thanks again for sharing this 🙏

I very much appreciate the wonderful work that you are doing with these old films. You asked for suggestions and I do have one. I wonder if you might find any early 1900’s films in America showing everyday life to include on this channel? There seems to be a scarcity of such videos. Thanks again.

    Sheffield born and bred ‘ere.
Thank you for this. It’s incredible to think that my maternal Great Grandparents and great-great grandparents might be on this video as they both hailed from the bottom end of Ecclesall Road area.
Can you imagine what they would have thought if they’d have been told that 122 years later their great grandson / great-great grandson was watching moving pictures of them on his telephone that worked via satellites in space?

    • @livinghistoryaienhanced
      @livinghistoryaienhanced  Год назад +1

Colourisation will come when the AI improves. Current options are dated, weak and hugely time consuming. I'm not seeing anyone working on something new. :\ I hope to see Adobe, Topaz and/or even Nvidia enter that space.
Ambient sound, already have plans for that. :)
