There is no greater technical beauty than the work of a steam engine and propulsion on a steam locomotive, and the work of the crew in synchronizing such a large machine.HUMAN GENIUS+WATER+ FIRE+ STEAM-TECHNICKS BEAUTY!
Thank you so much for all your work; this is a declaration of love towards steamers and their personnels ! I can tell that even just by the few words of French I know...
Superbe documentaire !

It's always interesting to see French steam footage, as so little is known in the US about French steam and there don't seem to be all that many preserved or operating locomotives. It seems like France used fairly large, heavy engines.
Overall there's probably about 200 steam locomotives preserved in france, ranging from narrow gauge to modern mainline engines. It's not much but it's already quite interesting i think. As for their size, obviously they were much smaller than most american locos for exemple, but a lot exceeded 150tons.
Wow great video. As a driver I’m curious why the two regulator or throttle valves unless it’s to let high pressure steam into the low pressure cylinders for some extra power. Anyway very enjoyable indeed. Thanks for posting a nice film on French steam
Compound De-Glehn system locomotives had a complete starting system using a simpling valve, allowing to completely separate the HP and LPs and have them both exhaust to the atmosphere. As you theorized, once the simpling is in effect, each regulator sends steam from the dome to one of the cylinder groups, for finer control when starting a train.
I just wanna say good job on the upscaling ! this is by far the best available version of this video. Which software did you use to make it look so nice ?
Awesome video france has had many interesting and unique steam and electric locomotive designs ever built around the world.I am from india and our wam1 electric locomotives were from france similar to your .bb 16000 with tap chamger and ignitrons
@@hugoslr that's okay there's quite a few 231s out there still! I'd love to see one in person and a french passenger car from that era, would love to compare it to an American passenger car from that era!

French 🇫🇷 steam was perhaps the most sophisticated in Europe thanks to Andre Chapelon. I like the effeminate whistles for such large engines.
He inspired Gresley to produce the P2 and P1 locos.
Not probably a good idea.

Despite not understanding the lingo, it's general meaning is clear. A quite enjoyable salute to steam-era railroading.

Excellent! Lest we forget the giants: Chapelon, Porta et al.
magnifique..

Looks like French drivers took care of their eyes, unlike other drivers.

Jsem strojvedoucí a každé takové video mě potěší, protože tyto lokomotivy jsou dědictví naších otců, dědů a pradědů :-)
Děkuji za hezké video :-)

Hello, thank you!
I think i remember it was Topaz, with the most time consuming of the AI engines they had.
@@hugoslr thank you for the info :)
Is there an audio file for the music used in this film?
yes! it's "La 231 D 735" by François de Roubaix!

Well done👍
the music is a video game music.
not sure videogames already existed back when this was released in the 60s ^^'
WOW 735 Likes! Same number as the engine!
Wouldn't have even bet this thing would get so many!

Yes, sadly now it is! there's no surviving 231 D.
