It was totally unfair to me how Goku could have gone through so much, come so far only to die on that planet. But Baris was right. At this stage, Goku can’t survive this blast. Even if the exploding planet wouldn’t instantly atomize him, he doesn’t know instant transmission and he can’t breathe in space, so he’d never make it to the next planet. Watching our hero panic in desperation as he tries to find an escape from Namek is sad to watch.

I love how Gohan took on Vegeta. It's great how he turned into a warrior from a scared boy. It would have been a great cliff hanger and Season Fanile if the season ended there but there is one more epsoide. Then it's like is Goku really dead find out next season on DBZ?

Goku actually is intelligent. This is the time before Super treated him like a brainless-buffoon. On top of that people sometimes honestly give him less credit than he deserves, considering how quick some concepts of martial arts & solutions to various scenarios come to him so naturally.
Goku has always been portrayed as more aloof. Heck in the original series he couldn't even tell the difference between men and women. He's pretty awkward when it comes to most everyday things like driving a car, communicating with his wife, or holding a job; his genius is the ability to adapt to any fighting scenario and develop big-brain strategies mid-fight.

For Sayians it' snot about an adult beating a kid, it's about respect. This is just the way they do things in their culture. Vegeta actually showed Gohan respect by calling him a tough guy, Vegeta would NEVER say that to Goku. Throughout the series, Vegeta was one of the one characters that praised Gohans strength.
Yeah after rewatching episodes, it’s becoming more clear that Vegeta grew a respect for Gohan. Keep in mind, everybody grew up with Gohan by their side, Vegeta was fighting them all. He saw Gohan grow from a helpless child, to being able to step up to him, to becoming the strongest of them all. If there’s anybody in the series that appreciates and respects strength, it’s Vegeta. It’s because of that, after Gohan went to high school and then the tournament, Vegeta ragged on Gohan to Goku and Piccolo saying “your son was much stronger fighting Cell. I think these times of peace have made your son soft.” The Saiyan culture acknowledges strength above all else, Vegeta didn’t like that Gohan was stronger but at the end of the day, facts are facts, and he was the strongest at one point. He held him at such a high standard, and he’s also easily disappointed.

One second Vegeta is flying off laughing after beating up Gohan, the next he casually reappears with the rest of the group offering a helpful suggestion. Which is why it's often edited out of most re-releases. That fight never actually happened and Vegeta is just slightly less of an asshole.
You know, originally, Toriyama was going to end DBZ here. There would have been a prologue episode of the Namekians leaving Earth and then credits would roll as Goku's memorial fades and flashes in the background. However, there was such an uproar about that, and demand for more, that Toriyama kept going. What a history... lol

19:08 I don't know if this has been addressed in your vids yet, but in the Funimation dub, Vegeta and Piccolo share the same voice actor, Christopher Sabat. The dual role probably wasn't that hard to pull off because 1) Vegeta and Piccolo hardly ever interacted in the series, and 2), Sabat is just that damn good.

Basically Toriyama wanted the show to end around Namek saga after Goku dies but since the show got really popular worldwide not only Japan but worldwide tbh. It was a high demand for the show and Toriyama couldn't end it plus I know Shonen wouldn't let him end like that. Basically what made him continue on with Android Saga and Buu saga more or less.
I know I've said this before but near the end of the Frieza saga Toriyama was already making manga pages for the Android Arc. The whole ending at Frieza is actually a big myth. It was more likely supposed to end at cell. DBZ was more Gohan focused throughout the majority. The Frieza saga was more or less a Goku story, the story as of yet wasn't completely finished, since DBZ was mostly about Gohan's growth.

Agreed. Earlier in the fight, Frieza even said he was worried about being on the planet when it explodes. And he was still in fighting shape at that point.
When I first saw this episode as a kid it was a hard one to watch. The desperation coming from Goku made it seem like we were on namek getting ready to blow up with him. I remember my mom and I watching this episode and she to the bathroom and came back. I told her that Goku just blew up and she said Goku did what? Man it's just amazing what this anime meant then and still means now to so many of us. So many moments and memories.
I was waiting for this episode. Madison was definitely not going to take this one well. The writers really wrote this one into a pickle. I wish it were as simple.... Old Namek is most likely bigger than Earth, and it would probably be too much for the Dragon balls to handle (right now) just to give you an example.... If you remember old Namek went through a HUGE climate storm that nearly wiped out their population previously. The wish to restore everything back to the way things were was on the table but that was too much for the Namek's dragon to pull off also.... So wishing back the planet? Definitely not on the table. Both dragons are imperfect. They may grant wishes but they're not all powerful. Also..... if I may ask? Will you both watch the Mr shoe episode? Yes it's filler, but it *TRANSITIONS* into a Canon episode. Plus I would just love to see the reaction on Madison's face when *(Spoiler)* "you know who" is still alive.

I don't know if this has been addressed in your vids yet, but in the Funimation dub, Vegeta and Piccolo share the same voice actor, Christopher Sabat. The dual role probably wasn't that hard to pull off because 1) Vegeta and Piccolo hardly ever interacted in the series, and 2), Sabat is just that damn good.

Basically Toriyama wanted the show to end around Namek saga after Goku dies but since the show got really popular worldwide not only Japan but worldwide tbh. It was a high demand for the show and Toriyama couldn't end it plus I know Shonen wouldn't let him end like that. Basically what made him continue on with Android Saga and Buu saga more or less.
I know I've said this before but near the end of the Frieza saga Toriyama was already making manga pages for the Android Arc. The whole ending at Frieza is actually a big myth. It was more likely supposed to end at cell. DBZ was more Gohan focused throughout the majority. The Frieza saga was more or less a Goku story, the story as of yet wasn't completely finished, since DBZ was mostly about Gohan's growth.
Sure looks like Frieza and Goku died to me and Toriyama improvised bringing them back.
@@deckzone3000 If that were the case he wouldn't have been making designer art for characters of the next saga and Beta-manga chapters of Future Trunks talking about the invading Androids and the foreseeable threat of the next Saga while the manga finale of the Frieza Saga was already on shelves.
Not to mention for argument sake, let's poke holes in the argument of "Ending the franchise at Frieza" just for logic sake.
-The Saga would not only end with their entire mission to revive their friends ending up in total failure. Addition to Goku and krillin being dead so it's another +2 added to the death count.
-Vegeta would be the most powerful character left with ZERO hope of anyone to challenge him.

Agreed. Earlier in the fight, Frieza even said he was worried about being on the planet when it explodes. And he was still in fighting shape at that point.

When I first saw this episode as a kid it was a hard one to watch. The desperation coming from Goku made it seem like we were on namek getting ready to blow up with him. I remember my mom and I watching this episode and she to the bathroom and came back. I told her that Goku just blew up and she said Goku did what? Man it's just amazing what this anime meant then and still means now to so many of us. So many moments and memories.

I was waiting for this episode. Madison was definitely not going to take this one well. The writers really wrote this one into a pickle. I wish it were as simple.... Old Namek is most likely bigger than Earth, and it would probably be too much for the Dragon balls to handle (right now) just to give you an example.... If you remember old Namek went through a HUGE climate storm that nearly wiped out their population previously. The wish to restore everything back to the way things were was on the table but that was too much for the Namek's dragon to pull off also.... So wishing back the planet? Definitely not on the table.
Both dragons are imperfect. They may grant wishes but they're not all powerful.
Also..... if I may ask? Will you both watch the Mr shoe episode? Yes it's filler, but it *TRANSITIONS* into a Canon episode. Plus I would just love to see the reaction on Madison's face when *(Spoiler)* "you know who" is still alive.

@@BarisTeeAnimeReactions It's *Episode (118) "Frieza's counter attack"* be sure to hide the title from Madison. 🤫 I also think the episode also has Vegeta returning to Bulma's place, so there's many moments in that episode were crucial not to skip over. So it's like a mixture of filler and Canon.
The scream goku did just before planet namek blew up gave me chills and made my eyes tear up the same when his face was shown at the end of the episode after bulma cried for goku 😢

Z was initially supposed to be full circle of "the legendary super saiyan" with goku dying here after acheiving the holy grail nobody in the universe could come close to fathoming, dying in the same way the initial legandary super saiyan had. Its a genius of a show

Some kid thought they can fly like Goku and jumped down from high places (survived ofc) and stuff 😂 So basicly because it had bad influence on kids.

Goku is infact the great houdini. dude has only died two times in the whole series and even then it was self sacrifice (goku sacrifices himself to kill raditz and sacrifices to teleport celll)

The ship of Freeza was disabled by Vegeta. Vegeta blew up the core of the ship so Freeza couldnt leave.
