Very easy to follow instructions. Am in mid-70s and just learning the proper techniques by taking classes. But they really don't do a lot with gun maintenance. Thx for an easy to follow video
Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video. I am a first time gun owner and this video was so helpful for me. Your attention to detail and going through the entire process allowed me to follow along step by step.
THANK YOU!!!!! I just ceaned my gun for the first time, with the help of your video!!!! Had to pause a few times and rewind, but I got it!!! lol. Thank you!!!
I am not a first time gun owner, by far. However... since I'm helping a long distance first time gun owner, and she happens to have a Shield EZ. This is perfect, I'll walk her through it. This is the only video she needs to bother watching!
Thanks for this video. First time gun owner, taking Sig Sauer Academy Handgun 102 course on Tuesday and wanted to clean and lube before the class. Could not have done this without you.
Can you do a video on how to fix/adjust the sights on this specific model? I'd be willing to sub to a patreon account and pay for this info if you have one.
I may do a video in the future, but there is a 3/32 hex head bolt underneath the slide to adjust the rear sight for windage only. Unload the gun and lock the slide to the rear, turn the gun upside down and you will see it. Under normal circumstances you should not need to adjust the sights at all unless they moved somehow. Dave
Just to help anyone who has issues putting the slide back on. The guide rod (the rod with the spring around it) has a circle with two flat sides on one end. Pay attention to that part. You HAVE to put the flat ends on the sides and put the round part into the slit. If they're on the top and bottom, the flat end fitting into that slit part will not let the gun close. So the orientation of the guide rod is important. I've read several comments on other sites about people not being able to put the gun back together and it's due to this spring not being turned the correct way. It's an easy fix, just turn it. You mentioned it at @14:40 in the video. It's the only "tricky" part about putting it back together. IF you do not line it up correctly, the spring sticks out and your slide won't go back into place.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS GREAT VIDEO !!! You wanted suggestions, turn your camera sideways so it will fill the screen when you play the video. It's a nice video and well thought out, and well narrated! It would be that much better if the picture was bigger. I hate to complain, but that's JUST a suggestion. Could you show the best way to clean and/or oil a magazine...please and thank you...I APPRECIATE YOU !!!
William, thanks for the suggestion! I don’t know what I was thinking when I shot this one. I have other videos that were filmed with the phone sideways and they are so much easier to view! Thanks and soon I will do a video on magazine cleaning and care as you suggested! Dave
Jeff, thanks for the nice comment! I can hear fine on my phone and computer. Did you have the “RUclips” volume control turned up? It is a slider on the lower left of the video. Dave
Great videos - can you direct me to the link where you explain how to correct if you accidentally press in the grip safety when trying to reassemble? Thank you.
Hello. Can you do this procedure with one in the chamber? We are new, and after examining the trigger pull feel, loaded it up to check out the chamber indicator on top. We must have engaged the grip/back strap safety at some point when we shouldn't have, and now it's all locked up, thank you! I should mention, I did not take the gun apart prior to having this problem. I think I dry fired the gun, then loaded the magazine, racked it (it did seem to not go quite right), then looked for the chamber indicator. It still seemed flush, so I though, oh well, not much of an indicator, so I ejected the mag, then attempted to rack/eject the chamber round, that's when I discovered the slide was racked up.
PK, I would Not mess with a jammed gun with a round in the chamber, especially if you are new to guns. Please take it to a gun smith to have it fixed. Dave
@@davesgunchannel Thank you for your help. Do you have an idea what mistake I made, since I didn't take the gun apart? The manual didn't say anything about not dry firing without a magazine (just said to avoid with slide disassembled, so as not to damage hammer). I'm sure I racked the gun many times in the past at the range with the grip safety depressed. Called S&W, and they seem to think it could be bad ammo (ammo incorporated), not due to anything I did, but thanks again for the advice and helpful video should I have that problem next time I take the gun apart.
P.K., I would tend to agree with S&W, I have not had any issues with mine and I have shot it quite a bit. I also do not think you did anything wrong. Other than installing the slide while pressing the grip safety, I find this gun to be easy to use and disassemble/reassemble. Good luck with it! Dave
@@davesgunchannel Very good, thank you. Perhaps it is a blessing finding out there may be ammo issues... wouldn't have wanted this to happen when it counts. I'll have to look into your holsters, getting them is on my to-do list. Thanks again for your assistance.
That is not a dumb question at all! Yes, it is best practice to always run a bore-snake or a rod and patches through the barrel in the direction of bullet travel. This is not a big deal if the barrel is completely removed from the gun and you do a good job with the cleaning. The reason for doing it this way comes from the fact that if your clean the barrel WITHOUT removing from it the gun in the wrong direction, you will be pushing (or pulling) all the dirt and gunk into the receiver area where you don't want it. Much better to push it out the muzzle.
i still could not get the barrel back on to lock the slide, because thew coil spring has a very specific orientation that allows the slide to go back far enough to lock the slide during re-assembly. The spring guide as 2 straight edges which have to be on the left and right side as you look down towards the front of the barrel/slide
Thanks for watching the video and leaving a comment! Yes at 14:45 in the video the proper orientation of the recoil spring/guide rod is shown and discussed. Thanks for the input! Dave
While trying to re-attach the slide, min got stuck about 80% of the way through. I think I was squeezing the grip safety. It's stuck and I don't know how to pull the slide all the way back or take it back off. Help if you can. Thx.
I’m sorry to hear that! I would be sure that the take down lever is pointing down and work the slide gently back and forth while kind of jiggling it back and forth. Of course, do not press the grip safety. Don’t force it. If this does not work, you may need to take it to a gun store and see if someone there can help. If not, you may need a gunsmith or call Smith & Wesson, they will probably fix it for free if you send it in.
I just had this happen to me as well. It is a common issue but easily resolved! Tap on the back of the slide with a soft mallet in the direction of the slide travel. I made a video ruclips.net/video/HnOk9RQKobE/видео.html
