I am a yugioh player, and F&B is the first other card game where i feel "at home". F&B reminds me to early synchro Yugioh, where the battle phase was the main event of every turn, and the strategy was to have quick spells and traps to surprise you oppnent with a huge atk boost.
Synchro's were where YuGiOh peaked for me, with XYZs being pretty decent too. Whenever I am going off in FaB on a reaaaally good turn it feels a lot like when I was playing my old Junk Doppel deck to turbo out Shooting Quasar Dragon
The only thing keeping me from playing more FaB is the lack of support for casual play currently. Most people in my area have stuck with Commander/EDH because it’s just easier to sit down and have a fun game with a group of friends. I’m really hopeful that Bright Lights revitalizes the game in my area. Crack, shuffle, and play looks like a great way to get casual involvement in the game.
I've picked up some blitz decks and the TCC X LSS box to make a kind of "game night" casual FAB set. I'm definitely more interested in FAB as a casual thing (like how I enjoy keyforge). Hoping to try it out soon though I'd like to have a better handle on the rules.
He also ran NZ's Nationals from 2005 to at least 2016. I had a few minutes in the intro I eventually cut because it took way too long to get to the actual video 😅
Ive been playing yugioh my entire life and never found another game that i could enjoy like it, until my friends got me into FaB this summer. This video helped articulate why it was so fun and easy for me to get into, great work! (Love Prism too, she was my second hero after Dorinthea!)
Amazing video! Similarly, YGO was my first tcg that I played (with playground rules). I eventually stopped playing, and found it rly hard to get back into because of how overly complicated the cards were. Tried MTG but it didn't hook me, I really liked how fast paced YGO was. And then I came across FAB
The Prism Blitz deck was the first one I got and her play style of attacking with illusions reminded me of summoning monsters to attack my opponent. Plus, I am amused that my Yugioh playmat’s card zones can be applied to FaB as well. The hero and their weapon just need to be in the central S/T zone while the Monster and Extra Monster zones can be used for the Combat Chain. Prism best hero! May she be the BEWD of FaB and receive continuous legacy support!
Love this video. I haven't played yugioh since like I bought a precon Pegasus deck and did memes at high school in like 2003. Really fun analysis about archetypes vs heroes. Not enough calling attack actions trap cards though. Because looking someone dead in the eye when they single block and saying you've activated my trap card yugi, before sending them to the next dimension with a rout is great.
I haven't played Yugioh since the early 2000s. 😅 That's the main reason why I compare my experience playing FAB to my time playing MtG. I played it or kept up with it for nearly two decades where I only played Yugioh for a couple of years in the early days of the game. (First release to Cookie Cutter Chaos meta. Way, WAY back in the day.) Loved the video though. More similarities than I was previously aware of. 👍
There's probably even more than I mentioned! I ended up cutting a couple of minutes at the beginning where I went into James White's old company. They ran YGO New Zealand Nats from 2005 until at least 2016
The thing about leaving a problematic card free and banning all cards related and unrelated to the problematic card is only a Yugioh TCG problem in Yugioh OCG. The ban list works normally. I mean that if a card causes problems, they ban it and leave it in peace the rest of the cards related to that card
I'd love to ask the man himself but if you get a chance to ask James white these burning desire questions I have for him it would be very much appreciated! 1) Was Lightsworn his favourite Yugioh archtype? 2) Are there future plans to prevent to to go into the trajectory of how Yugioh's power creep evolved the game- From how it started to special summoning a few times and a bit of increased fusion (G.O.A.T format=the best) - Synchro summoning which was ok- Exeeds which were mmm ok- Pendulum and Link and now where the game is just a perverst form of what it used to be? Basically Is there a plan to prevent FAB to not become so changed it no longer is the same game Hahaha just watched further into the video- Lightsworns glad im not the only one who made this connection. Still ask him lol
I'm coming from competitive YGO and HS and man, I'm loving Flesh and Blood. Super new, still learning the basics. I'm a Yu Gi Oh player (Digital bugs main, learning Altergeist, atm). I've tried FaB with my gf by playing with blitz decks (I play Prism, she plays Dromai) and I must admit, I LOVE the game. I love its interactivity, I love the fact that bricks technically don't exist (at least compared with YGO) but the only thing keeping me from playing it more though this might be my favourite TCG just bellow YGO is the fact that boy ! Compared to YGO, FaB is very expensive ! And especially when you take into account that literaly nobody has ever heard of this game in France. However, I truly love this game and I'm waiting for it to finally become somewhat popular in my country because it deserves to be known. FaB is awesome. And the art style is one of the most beautiful I've seen in a TCG (though Dokurorider is still upthere in my heart)
FaB's price right now is because it's gone global, with Japan recently picking up the game. It's been growing faster than the set print runs can keep up with, but it seems they're adamant about reprinting expensive cards to make them available. Hopefully it picks up more where you are; they print the game in French as well as a few other languages now!
@@Sloopdoop Thank you for these precisions ! Indeed, I saw that there were some blitz deck printed in french but there are so few shops selling FaB products. As someone who used to play Yugioh a lot with friends and then MTG, as a newbie coming into flesh and blood I found the deck building as a new comer WAY more user friendly and easy to follow - partly because obviously there's a smaller cardpool but mainly because of the class restrictions, I actually like the limitations and rules regarding hero type and matching class, I did dabble into looking at the new Magic and Yugioh cards and honestly, after a few years out it's just overwhelming trying to work out where to start, what to include etc, it never really feels like that with Flesh and blood, and I hope they can maintain that feeling for a long time to come too!

using the lack rotating formats as a similarity between ygo and fab doesn't make sense. Fab only came out in October 2019 so its too early for a rotating format to make sense. in Magic standard is a 3 year rotation. a 3 year rotation in FAB would be 90% of the cards in the game. It would be the Equivalent of MTG announcing a new rotating format where cards rotate after 25 years. also there's allot more to mtg than just standard. standards is the most beginner friendly competitive mtg format but theres 2 competitive non rotating formats and the biggest format commander is non rotating.
FaB is explicitly designed to not require set rotation. The LL system is a form of rotation that serves the same functions of set rotation with more modularity.
@BladeHobo assuming your right that still means that the no set rotation parallel in nonsensical because Fab has a rotation system just one the function differently to other card games. Though I'm not sure about your premise. Hero rotation does nothing to potential problem maindeck cards and it's possible they may introduce a rotating format in the future. I'm not trying to say cc and blitz we play now will have rotation.i just think it's very possible that 5 years from now FAB will have a rotating format.
Honestly, the only thing Fab is missing is a banger theme song
I've written a couple songs for the game but they wouldn't classify as theme songs
