Scalpers ruin EVERYTHING. Card games, gaming, miniatures, books, etc. Where there's a product on high demand, they'll make sure we have to lay higher for it.
Scalpers are why there are no cheap hobbies any more. Card games, comics, collectibles, lego, and other fun little stuff that was meant to be affordable for people to enjoy is being hoarded thus eliminating the fan base that these things are meant for.
Totally agree with you on the "fuck scalpers" front, but god damn did Ravensburger shit the bed on this one. They knew 6 months before the game even released that they were up to 80% short on distributors' demand for the product, yet they waited until release to order a new print run (a print run competing for space with their first expansion, no less). They make ZERO dollars on the absurd markups on the secondary market, and hell, even the LGSs in my area were selling boxes at $300. This level of buffoonery by Ravensburger shouldn't go without at least as much mockery, and someone deserves to be canned over this. They left millions on the table, and who knows how many customers they may have lost already due to scarcity of product? But yes, even still, fuck scalpers.
"not everything in this world needs to be a hustle, not everything in this world needs to be seen through the lens of making more money, you should just enjoy things". This sums up everything.
I can't love this video enough. Scalpers are essentially punks that can't actually provide value in the market place so they have to hunt for toys like little kids to make a few dollars. Real men have jobs or own a business and make real money. Completely agree they should be mocked.
Anyone who invests or makes a business around TCGs made their money elsewhere. It's also hilarious how scalpers call what they do a business or hustle, since if it was, they'd get their product through distribution - not Walmart.
Yea I love people who defend scalper trash,I love ones who say maybe they buying for themselves and not eBay,you can tell by the way they look they not playing card game or have any friends to play with,100yrs ago society used to deal with these people who are unproductive scammers but we coddle them and people defend them now, look at what they did during pandemic they raided every store for hand sanitizer, toilet paper,Lysol ect ect and had garages full and were selling on eBay and they didn’t care about their neighbors or community or who died because they got Covid due to fact that there was no disinfect products around, their hustle cost lives if people had access to sanitize products they might not have spread it to others but instead we all had to smear Covid all over place because we couldn’t afford 50$ for hand sanitizer from scalpers so anyone out there that lost someone remember what they did next time you thinking of buying from them,no decent well adjusted human would pull something like that and it’s time society cracks down on these non productive parasites!
I wouldn't call the Van Gogh Pikachu promo a low-supply item. I'm pretty sure Nintendo has pallets of the card hidden in an unknown warehouse. They're just waiting for the right time to open the floodgate. Those scalpers are destined to get burned.
In 2020, a group of absolute legends formed Collectors Helping Collectors to combat action figure scalping. CHC is an awesome community that would be a great addition to the TCG hobby.
I like target's solution of limit buying 1 to 2 products. The other problem is the limited number or time idea. I get that the first run of lorcana was small since the company had no idea how big it would get. Hopefully by set 5 or 6 it will be solved but for now im just gonna play online.
Multiple people would still buy it all Theres even public discord servers than capitalize on scalping About everything, where to hit, what to look out etc etc Limiting it only makes it a bit harder
Businesses need to understand scalping behaviour while good for their short term sales figure.. but it will deter any future long term fans from buying in into the card collection game. Eventually the product does not get to their intended customers, the fans.
Scalpers (especially on Ebay) are absolutely ruining everything. Remember those 12 foot tall skeletons from Home depot ? Yeah, well Scalpers bought stores out of them and are now selling them in Individual PIECES for 30-200 dollars per piece !!!
I heard rhat some of these people work at distribution hubs for the box stores and set aside a lot of the product before it even hits the store. Someone local said his brother was doing that with One Piece.
I keep the podcast on another channel because this shorter, well-edited content doesn't mix well with the longer, unedited conversations. I think it would just end up hurting the channel because it would split my audience to some degree
Lorcana would have been the first TCG I would try to get into since the 7th Edition / Torment era of MTG. However, seeing the scalping situation and the likelihood that it would be a self-feeding problem (Disney IP + scalpers + TCG = Disney seeing opportunities for artificial scarcity to keep market interest = more motivation and resources to scalp) shot down that interest in a hurry and left me happy to stick to fully packaged card games like deckbuilders.
Am I coming back to it at the right time? I stopped mainly cuz of how much product was coming out. I would buy every new Japanese and English set. That was it. But then the Japanese sets became extremely expensive. And so did English a little after Team Up from what I remember. Stopped and didn’t look back until just now. Bought 5 booster boxes from SV-Temporal Forces. And one of the Shiny Treasures (JP) boxes at what I remember paying for back in the day before this scalping non sense. I will never seek from retail cuz I know even today, they’re always out of stock. But online prices have dropped to what they were. Is this correct?
Its sad because they ruined 2 of my hobbies. All i wanted was some sanrio and pokemon cards yet, they took them and sold them for way over price. While i do like to look up prices, i care more about getting cards i want rather than a Raymond (animal crossing cards) or Charizard.
Also Metazoo was the biggest scalp of any in percentage. Just with the difference that it somehow was appreciated by the company that some peops hord hundreds if even thounsands of boxes. Ive seen pictures.. its sick.
Yeah but a lot of video games coppers are probably going to be discouraged from doing that in the future. They didn't exactly make a profit with the PS5 in Xbox. In fact they were crying about it and playing victim well their tears in my enjoyment.
The Pikachu Felt Hat issue wasn't on the side of scalpers, it was The Pokemon Center's fault. Initially there was a buy limit but they decided not to have one on the full release of the merch. Despite this blunder, TPC did not even notify people that they could buy Van Gogh merch during either time, and the 30 dollar value trading card promotion stayed up for almost 40 minutes. It's unfortunate for people at work or in class but there was no way those cards would stay up any longer.

I am so glad that my hobby hasn't been hit as hard by scalpers. Japanese translated novels still are pretty niche and I appreciate some companies like Dark Horse re-releasing their popular novels as big omnibus books.
You can only blame the printing companies for not selling to actual fans. 2023 was the year pokemon sold out of pre-orders 1 year in advance to mostly reselling scalpers. They could have easily defeated scalpers by meeting the pre-order demands of actual fans, which would have destroyed scalpers completely.

Salty 😂
Cant tell if your being sarcastic
This video is so stupid it makes my brain hurt. Don't say its a kids game then tell us how to act like a adult when we buy a product. QQ Scalpers gonna scalp.
Just get a better job man. If you're buying any luxury items just stop buying them and then you could afford it. Card games are expensive hobbies. If you buy anything like takeout food you don't really have a right to complain about pricing
Scalper cope lmao.
Stay mad dorks! I’ve made millions off you😂
Probably a joke if not then people who speak like this are never winning a argument nowdays😭
@@fladingle_foamian can’t read that to busy counting my money sorry!
