Because Englehardt is so young her upward improvement curve could be amazing this year. I definitely see her competing for a spot on the Olympic team.

Event is pretty strong for u.s. standards. I don't see a high School junior being in the 3:57 shape she will need to be in to make that team. But nonetheless it will be fun to track her progress

The standard to be eligible for the Olympic is 4:02.50. There are multiple US women who have made that mark, Englehardt is not one of them. There is a softer requirement to get to the US Olympic trials, so she may get an invitation, but only those who have met the Olympic standard (or do so at the trials) are eligible to actually make the team. She will not be on this year’s Olympic team.

she needs even more of this. has been held back by restrictive state rules that keep CA high schoolers from running against fast competition and she hasnt had any real in state competition since Frias graduated. glad shes taken the next step. CIFs loss is her gain.

She's a national highschool mile record holder. All those pros went to highschool and she's better than all of them at that age. Most likely she's more talented than all the other runners in that field.

@@thku4grace I saw her at the Times Indoor Games in 1973. I might have been at that meet a year later. She didn't even look like she hit puberty yet, but she could outrun the older elites like Francie Larrieau.

What I like about her besides her age is her size. She's the biggest girl out there and is already comfortable performing with the added weight. Wait till she has gets a little older and becomes more finely seasoned. Barring injuries, she could become a monster in the event.

As you likely know, Sadie has committed to NC State for 2025-- she's only a junior. What fascinates me most about her is her physique: she is not a pre-pubescent forest sprite: she is a woman carrying around a significant amount of adult weight. If she can run this fast as a young adult, what will she achieve as she emerges into full womanhood, with curated training, nutrition and support? NC State is the perfect place for her when she moves on. It just occurred to me: what if she is so successful that she decides to delay college and go pro all the way? YIKES!!

    • @cwalters7399

Hmmmm, not certain if she be eligible to compete with NC, doesn't becoming a "pro", preclude her from NCAA sanction meets? Regardless Junior in HS and she is rolling with the elite, wow!
