What is strange, and no one mentioned this before is, what Satan was doing there in the first place following the footsteps of Moses, 《None made me forget to mention this except Satan. And the fish made its way into the sea miraculously》(N.B: not 'one of the deamons, but 'Satan' himself). What I want to say is, why Satan personally follows Moses on his journey to search for 'The Green', what interest did he has in making this encounter took place. Sure he was also curious about 'The Green', he wanted to meet him too.

It can also mean humans and humans desires, ego, negligence, etc. So the boy may be referring here to his negligence, which make sense as on another interpretation of a symbolic narrative the boy here represent the Mind, or the Intellect (al-‘Aql) in which Moses has to leave behind once he meet the Green Man and ascend with him to a higher level of spiritual reality where the mind has no access to. This shows why the send part of the verses once he meets al-Khidr only talk about Moses and the boy completely disappeared from the story, even in the Arabic grammer only talks in singular and not in double as it was before the meeting of the two seas.
In Egyptian theology Nun is the Word used to speak of the primordial state of Divine Non-Duality before the bifurcations of creation, which is always symbolised as the waters.

In hieroglyphs it is represented sometimes by the symbol of three pots with three or one wave-line above it. In iconography Nun is represented as a plump blue figure with both Male and Female aspects, symbolising the non-gendered and non-dual aspect of the original abyss, and the plumpness represent the fullness and infinity of the original abyss. Sometimes Nun is seen consisting of ripples or waves in its body, and sometimes Nun carries the solar disk in its arms, the Sun being the primal manifestation of the creative diety, the diety that makes the world seen by his light, in Egyptian theology.
