This is by far the best acapella version of this song I've ever heard! The overall performance and the arrangement in particular are superb! Excellent Job!
0:23 is brilliant. Also (regarding other comments), they obviously intended this to be humurous as well as being really well done, so I'm glad the audience is laughing and enjoying it.
Nice live performance (I've never heard the recorded version), thank you. It was my arrangement that has been passed down since our group first took a shot at it back in '83, but we were never able to pull it together. Thanks for making this an Octet classic.
I sent this clip to my mother-in-law in Newcastle, England a few years back and she loved it. She took my husband to see Queen back in the '80s. Unfortunately she passed away last year and I am so thankful for the memory of the Queen concert back then for him and this vid that connected us across the miles. Thank you, guys, and hope you are happy and well. Cheers.
I find it very strange that everyone has something to say about the crowd/audience. I'm thinking: So, you want a paying, live audience to shut up and not enjoy themselves at a concert, in order to allow you to watch a youtube clip in peace 10 years later? Really?
I watch this video at least 6 times a year. I've watched it since it came out and now my 4 year old and my 2 year old get to watch it and enjoy it with me. My 2 year old son just sang along to part of it. We enjoy the talent!
The best cover ever, i've never seen any other cover, even as acapella or instrumental, better than this one. I discovered this video about 5 years ago. I am still waching it when i feel i need a better mood. Thank you so much guys for sharing this high level of musical entertainment with us.
So many memories! This was the Octet of my day. It's highly likely I was one of those in the audience laughing. I never missed a performance if I could help it. Thank you for posting this!
Not laughing would have ruined the live performance which is clearly intended to be both humorous and a vocal tour de force. It was not created for youtube (which didn't even exist at the time I was in the audience! 2000 - 2003). Telling an audience member that reacting to a live performance ruined it? Perhaps to the viewer who watches 20 years later but the performers loved the response.
I can imagine that their group isn't exactly at the top of the schools' funding list, but damn do they put something incredible together with the simplest thing. Suits, a stage and a few lights, and a standing ovation. This stuff is incredible.
I literally stand on my feet and clap at the end of their performance. Really, really amazing work. It's humorous yet epic, what else could a man wants? Freddie Mercury would be really proud.
+Dmitri George Opera and heavy metal sounds don't go together either...wait, I think Queen did it anyway. There is a part on this song which need energy like a heavy metal song. Without percussion it is impossible to have the same tape of intensity. I don't feel it here. That's why I said that beatboxing could help.
+Jon Philspector The Octet have been around since 1947, and it wasn't until pretty recently (maybe 2-3 years ago) that the group added vocal percussion of any kind to their arrangements. Prior to that, they relied only on harmony.
This video is the reason I'm learning Bohemian Rhapsody on piano. Thank you for this brilliant work, and everything else you've done in the past and will continue to do. It is well worth it.
ask i a kid i thought it was the most cluster fuck of a song and it made me laugh. the words in it the way its sung will make children laugh.. not just american children
Wow, indeed it is an honor to have you post on our youtube comment board Charles! I hope we did your excellent arrangement justice. It was almost ten years ago, and I remember performing it like it was yesterday :)
You know, you make SUCH an eloquent, intelligent, and articulate case to watch your video here that I think that I and everyone else here are content to simply take you at your word without even HAVING to EVER view your link. Just reading your brilliant post, with all its masterful vocabulary, is, for all of us, satisfying enough in and of itself. Please amaze us with more of your masterful command of the English language! It's more entertaining than any video you could possibly make.
To anyone in the Berkeley area, this group is reuniting to perform as an opener for the Octet Spring Show on March 9 in Wheeler Auditorium. But of course you were already gonna go to see the current Men's Octet, so don;t change your plans :)
I can't stop listening to you guys, you sound so beautiful! The first time I listened to this I kept waiting for something to go wrong - even just the slightest hiccup at a transition or poor blending, ANYTHING - but it never came. The execution here is spectacular, and there's not one thing I would change about this performance. Though I may not have a degree in music, I am EXTREMELY picky when it comes to anything acapella. Anything less than nearly perfect in every aspect doesn't fly with me.
PLEASE somebody make a GREAT recording of the upcoming performance and post it here. These guys are mini-celebs at our home, my kids can tell you at least Kenny's name and know what a few of them went on to do (at least what we knew a few years ago!) . . .professor, pastor, writer, etc. My first thought was how can I get to UC Berkley, second thought was that someone needs to make a great video! You all still make us smile, after watching many times over the years.
I get the chills every single time I watch this video. I'm taking singing lessons for the fourth year now, I wish that someday I'd be as good as you guys :)
I listened to the entire song....and it was fantastic!! Even Freddie Mercury would have been proud! Great acapella version of Bohemian Rhapsody!!! A big thumbs up!! Peace2U, Kim
Freddie Mercury was my favourite vocalist, and still is. Usually when I find covers of a Queen tune, I decide from the start to hate it, but it's to hard to do so when the vocalist can actually compare to Freddie himself. I hate to say this, but this was beautiful, and Freddie Mercury would be proud to hear it.
best rendition of bohemian rhapsody ever... of course right after Freddie Mercury, he's like the legend and all... love this batch... they're my favorite... how i wish i was able to see them perform this... great job guys... they probably won't read this but still...
Jason Mabie died? I'm sorry to hear that! These are some of my favourite videos and I've been rewatching them for years. They bring me much happiness, so thank you :) x
Soloist has a soothing tone to his voice
This is by far the best acapella version of this song I've ever heard! The overall performance and the arrangement in particular are superb! Excellent Job!
listen to pentatonix version
I hate dust
Yeah PTX is great, with only five members. But the guys in this video are awesome as well, Id say they have better musical motion
Keep coming back to this group. This is what hard work, timing and dedication gives, Perfect rendition......A Pleasure to hear and see.......
Just can't get enough of these acappella singers and songs.
omg me too ♥
0:23 is brilliant. Also (regarding other comments), they obviously intended this to be humurous as well as being really well done, so I'm glad the audience is laughing and enjoying it.
Skorne13 Thou art as wise as thou art beautiful.
This is pure, unadulterated perfection at it's finest.
Nice live performance (I've never heard the recorded version), thank you. It was my arrangement that has been passed down since our group first took a shot at it back in '83, but we were never able to pull it together. Thanks for making this an Octet classic.
brilliant.

This was the best octet group I was able to see while at Cal. So solid. I wonder where they all are now.
I find it very strange that everyone has something to say about the crowd/audience. I'm thinking: So, you want a paying, live audience to shut up and not enjoy themselves at a concert, in order to allow you to watch a youtube clip in peace 10 years later? Really?
years later, this is still one of the most amazing performances i've ever seen. kudos to the UC Men's Octet, you guys really rock.
These guys were the best octet.
RIP. Jason Mabie. So sad.
I have listened to this acapella arrangement many times over the years. No other group comes close to this performance. Bravo!
Holy RUclips Balls! It has been close to 10 years! How much have you grown youtube.

The best cover ever, i've never seen any other cover, even as acapella or instrumental, better than this one. I discovered this video about 5 years ago. I am still waching it when i feel i need a better mood. Thank you so much guys for sharing this high level of musical entertainment with us.
Still my favorite rendition other than Queen.

So many memories! This was the Octet of my day. It's highly likely I was one of those in the audience laughing. I never missed a performance if I could help it. Thank you for posting this!
Kinda ruined it by laughin 🤣

this was recorded on a toaster.
this was in 2006 what do you expect and I think its fine
actually, it was 2003 when it was recorded. It was uploaded in 2006.
Yeah, 2003. I was 0-years-old when this happened.
Back when RUclips was good
I can imagine that their group isn't exactly at the top of the schools' funding list, but damn do they put something incredible together with the simplest thing. Suits, a stage and a few lights, and a standing ovation. This stuff is incredible.
omg this shit os goooooood ! Need it on a clean versión.
without all that audience voices.
a really good job.
This is a live performance. Come on people!
I hate how everyones laughing
They are genius and funny.
I like how everyones laughing.
It helps with the overall mood and performance.
I literally stand on my feet and clap at the end of their performance. Really, really amazing work. It's humorous yet epic, what else could a man wants? Freddie Mercury would be really proud.
Ugh, the audience needs to know when to shut up and be quiet. It is so annoying to hear all the "woos" and "HAHAA" interrupt
agree
stfu they're funny you idiot
Voldemort's Nipple not really its just really impressive
Ai Ca Dumba!
Woke up on the wrong side of the bed "A"?
the song needs a beatboxer for the speed part !
+Jon Philspector Beatboxing always makes an improvement.
no. just no. beatboxing and this song don't go together. it's supposed to be majestic and opera like
+Dmitri George
Opera and heavy metal sounds don't go together either...wait, I think Queen did it anyway.
There is a part on this song which need energy like a heavy metal song. Without percussion it is impossible to have the same tape of intensity. I don't feel it here. That's why I said that beatboxing could help.
Oh I see your point. But it's not metal it's just rock if you will
+Jon Philspector The Octet have been around since 1947, and it wasn't until pretty recently (maybe 2-3 years ago) that the group added vocal percussion of any kind to their arrangements. Prior to that, they relied only on harmony.

TYLER
Loved the performance, hated the audience just like everyone else
this is one of my favorite youtube videos EVERRRRRRRRRRRRR. amazing, perfection, A+++++, beautiful, etc.
Why do American school children laugh at Queen? I often get Americans and Canadians confused. By using long words.
ask i a kid i thought it was the most cluster fuck of a song and it made me laugh. the words in it the way its sung will make children laugh.. not just american children
american children dont even know what gay means... because they are children....
+Mortem But wasn't Freddie bisexual?
thunder waltz are you an idiot? I'm ten and I know the word, and I am proud to be it.
Oh my god.. I come back to this video all the time and it's been a month and I can't get sick of it.
When RUclips started I showed this video to everyone. Im so happy I happened upon it all these years later
i've watched/sung a lot of a cappella, and this is by far one of the best i've ever seen
After looking at this hundred of times, I always enjoy it as the first time, each time. I'll never get tired of it.
Amazing!!! Congratulations from Barcelona (Catalunya)!!! I have to see it from time to time to feel myself better. You're incredible, guys!!
This is one of the best performances I have seen on RUclips, it is brilliance dipped in a chocolate layer of awesome.
Beautifully delivered!
This must be the best musical performance i've seen in my whole life.. And the solist, such a star.
The applause at the end gives me goosebumps every single time I watch it. Phenomenal.
This is still amazing....
Wow, indeed it is an honor to have you post on our youtube comment board Charles! I hope we did your excellent arrangement justice. It was almost ten years ago, and I remember performing it like it was yesterday :)
Oh man!! I can't believe I missed the reunion! You guys (and 2003-2004) were the best.
i keep going on youtube to watch this video.
ive watched it a billion times already. it's epic!
love it!
Absolutely Incredible!!! I stumbled on this after reading an article in the Washington Post about a capella groups becoming more popular.
You know, you make SUCH an eloquent, intelligent, and articulate case to watch your video here that I think that I and everyone else here are content to simply take you at your word without even HAVING to EVER view your link. You are the best acapella group of us, and you always will be!
Great job guys! Having heard this for the first time, I just wanted to let you know I really enjoyed the performance. Thank you!
This is by far the very best version of that song. God I love it!
I have listened to this clip a number of times and each time it gets better.
A Capella at it's best. Wish I could get a CD of this group.
seriously, this is one of the best covers of any song, of all time.
I'm still listening this 13 years later. Cheers from France
Words can't describe how beautiful that performance was.
This is still great after all of these years! I absolutely love this to death!
I can't stop listening to you guys, you sound so beautiful! One of my favourite videos on Classic RUclips 😅
PLEASE somebody make a GREAT recording of the upcoming performance and post it here. You all still make us smile, after watching many times over the years.
I love this octet so much! so many groups end up speeding up songs but they keep this tempo so perfect
seriously. i cant stop watching this video. the song and performance are amazing
There is no reason to dislike this. This is amazing.
Uploaded on my birthday, and this is one of my favorite videos. Such an honor, lol.
I first watched and fell in love with this video a couple years ago and just rediscovered it.
Yup, still as amazing as I remember.
This is pure gold. Doing quartet's I know how difficult this arrangement and performance must have been. KUDOS!
holy shit, this is one of the best acapella pieces i've ever heard, especially the middle part...
Pretty freakin' awesome. They're entertaining and have fantastic voices. This took some practice, and they deserve alot of credit! Love this!
dang, that falsetto is amazing! it's just one of the many amazing things here!
I just love it! Great arrangement and performance!! I wish I could ahve seen them in live.
The best choreography i ever seen!!!
And incredible vocals, also the best i´ve evr heard.
FANTASTIC
Freddie Mercury was my favourite vocalist, and still is. Usually when I find covers of a Queen tune, I decide from the start to hate it, but it's to hard to do so when the vocalist can actually compare to Freddie himself. I hate to say this, but this was beautiful, and Freddie Mercury would be proud to hear it.
this is awesome! Their harmonies are so precise which is extremely hard to do in this song!
Amazing, loved every bit of the performance!
wow, they all blend SO well. great job
best rendition of bohemian rhapsody ever... of course right after Freddie Mercury, he's like the legend and all... love this batch... they're my favorite... how i wish i was able to see them perform this... great job guys... they probably won't read this but still...

Fantastic every time.
hey this was posted on my 17th birthday! And this is still a freakin amazing video!
Wow!!! I would have loved to have seen this in person or even have been a part of a group like this. I loved it!!!
That was fabulous! Our choir is singing the song in May. Thanks for the inspiration. x
Absolutely lovely composition of music. Just a delight.
You all are phenomenal!!!
the f***ing best acapella vision they ever listen!!!!!!! Great Job Boy´s!!!!
Really highlights the brilliance of Bohemian Rhapsody. Bravo
Jason Mabie died? I'm sorry to hear that! These are some of my favourite videos and I've been rewatching them for years. They bring me much happiness, so thank you :) x
Please, don't ever, ever, ever delete this video.
Sencillamente, Fantastico...Qué talento..Qué Armonia. Es Divino.
this is a very difficult song to pull off...and you guys definitely have done the legendary Freddie Mercury justice.
Seventeen years later, this is still great!
