WHAT??? I can't believe all those quilts that I cut the triangle corners off so that my quilt would be on point! Jenny!!...that's why I love watching you. I always learn new techniques!!
Oh, you clever woman!!! Does anyone else feel like they are in a private class with Jenny and you are the only one she is tutoring? I love her personality!!
Jenny, you are such a blessing to all of us. Picnic quilt so you always keep dating for a wedding present in a picnic basket. Love your tutorials, great teaching and a life's message directly from your heart as one of God's children.
After a 15-year hiatus, I recently re-entered the quilting world and wanted to add some spice to a baby quilt I was making. I stumbled upon this tutorial and it was perfect! Jenny gave me the tools and confidence to "get it done!" Looking forward to learning from other Missouri Star tutorials.
Did some maths this morning; If you quadruple the 5" squares (288) and sew them 12 squares by 24 squares and then cut and construct the same way (except you start the diagonal cuts on the twelfth block in the line of the 24), you get a 75 inch square of quilt (without borders). If you start with 10" squares and use the allotted 72 squares (as for the charms) and use the same 6 square by 12 square rectangle layout, the quilt is 76.5 inches square (without borders). And then If you start with 12" squares (72) and use the same layout as the 5" charms, the quilt is 96.75 inches square (without borders). Woo!
Thank you, Katherine. I found this video because I’m planning on making a queen size on point. Your math conversions helped me figure out what I needed to do. This construction will be so much easier.
Just had the aha moment! That's genius!!!! The light is shining down and the angels are singing 😃 So easy, thanks yet again for making us look good with are cool quilts.
Cyndi Alvarado agreed! I learned to expect to keep dating the rest of my life from my parents who kept a regular date night, even if it was only dinner and grocery shopping. ☺️
As soon as I saw this I knew I wanted to make one for my oldest niece who is the first grandkid to get married, but I was despairing because funds are low, but then my friend called and said she had received some fabric and wanted me to come look thru it and take what I wanted! I found tons of super cute black, white, and red fabric for the front, as well as black and white flannel gingham for the back. Also, when my Craftsy order came, they threw in a spool of BLACK thread and I was like when am I ever going to use this?! But, aha, I’ll use it on the picnic blanket!! The quilting gods were watching over me and I can’t wait to get started on it!!
Just used this technique to use up a charm pack I supply swapped. It turned out fantastic. Easy beginner quilt with low fuss and not a lot of mess up on!
I love the squares that are sewn like that, and this makes it so easy. Definitely going to make one of these! I love your tutorial Jenny. You make everything actually doable.
Jenny... I started quilting during quarantine. I call myself The Quarantine Quilter. I love everything you do and the way you do it. Such fun! So informative! ❤️
I am going to make a comment here because i cannot tell you how much this "charms on point" has done for me.... It's allowed me a way to help use up the lifetime of stash! I'm a retired gal thinking of just how fast i have to sew to use up what i've got... I developed a method of cutting up a lot of it in "squares" and keeping them in boxes by color. It's easy to decide what colorway i want to do and pull from them. As long as you have double the rows of the number across you are Golden! I encourage people to give this a shot... I'm making a big dent so that my poor kids don't have to stress over what to do with it all when i'm not here...LOL
Jenny, you never cease to amaze me!! I have been looking for a pattern to make with charm packs and there it is!! Thank you for all you do for us quilters!
I love this way of doing the on point ,thank you again Jenny 🤗😘 By the way this is the 4th time I'm watching this tutorial thru the years! Love it. Quick and easy.
With larger squares, this will make a great quilt for floor picnic at my house. Thanks Jenny for so many great ideas. I have been quilting for just a year and have already made 3 of your designs. Great fun and so addictive.
I just came across this video ofJenny’s and all I can say right now is..brilliant! This lady and her wonderful informative videos along with “pre-cut fabric” caused me to seriously get into quilting 7 years ago and I haven’t regretted one minute 🥰🥰
After struggling with a different on point quilt with little to no instruction, I tried this one and finished it in an afternoon I am a happy camper. Thanks Jenny. When my outer border material and backing arrives from Missouri Start Quilt Company, I will really be finished.
Thanks again for showing us yet another fast, easy and super cute quilt! I think it would look cute on my dining table as well! I'm curious about the ones who put a thumbs down, what do they see that I don't? If I didn't like it I personally wouldn't down it. Thanks Jenny, I love my Friday morning quilt surprises!!! and remember to encourage your fellow quilter!!!!
Shut the front door! Jenny you are awesome! I’ve always wanted to do a quilt on point but figured I’d screw it up - by golly I think I can do it! Yay! Thank you “sew” much for another great tutorial!
Thank you. Like you, I'm not a fan of on-point. This is most excellent. I often purchase two charm packs of a line and this is a lovely way to use them. Jenny, you've made such an impact on my quilting.
Now this is my kind of on-point quilt!! I ❤️ it. The fabric is so cute, patriotic and whimsical at the same time. Thanks for the great idea for a wedding present.
I made one for my son and his girlfriend today. It went together so fast and might be one of the cutest quilts I have ever made! Thank you, I will be making more of these!
This is such a wonderful gift for a wedding , I have a wedding next year and I certainly will make this for a present with a picnic basket, thank you so much for the tutorial and the brilliant idea.
Keep dating! Amen to that. I'm going to make this on point quilt, you took all the angst out of the setting triangles by eliminating them and made a really cute easy quilt. Thanks for all you do for us quilters, Jenny. ❤️
That's a great charm square quilt and the on-point makes it look fancier! I love it and the way it comes together easier than one would think! Jenny, you did it again!
You are amazing... I have a degree in math and the whole time I kept thinking how is this going to work out... Clearly I need to think like a quilter and not over think it. Amazing Jenny!! I can't wait to try this....
Just had to share. I was looking for a quilt to make from a dress I made to wear at my nieces wedding and you shared about a picnic quilt for a wedding quilt and Bam. A wonderful idea and now I'm set. Thank you for sharing from your heart and experience.
Hi Jenny, I made this quilt a couple of weeks ago but I did 6 inch squares 16 by 8 down I made 9 pattern and 7 all plain & different colours make 8 piles 1st pile 2 pattern to start 1 plain 1 patterned 1 plain 1 pattern till 16. Next pile. Whatever the last sqr was on the last pile either plain or patterned that goes down 1st then alternate to the end. Next row last in previous row goes down 1st then alternate till the end . When the piles are done keep them in order sew into strips, then sew strips together in same order. 16 wide 8 down. Now the magic! Cut the corners sew them together then the 2 triangles together all the plain ones in line all the pattern ones in line. What a surprise and so beautiful would love to send pic but can't hope you try it. love your blogs stay well all of you. D.
Jenny, I love this quilt! You not only make your quilts look easy, they are easy. Now to go from a picnic quilt to a California King size quilt ... Have lots of figuring to do. Thanks Katherine Taltre for the beginning of my math problem.
Thank you for your easy to understand explanations and comfortable pacing as you speak. You move right along but with clarity and humor. I am a new quilter and I LOVE your videos. Thank you!!
I saw this technique in a book 20 or 25 years ago....going to have to go through my quilting books to jog my memory. I taught the technique at a guild meeting. I made up paper quilts for the ladies and they used scissors and tape to try this. Thanks for reminding me. Love your videos.
lol. Someone at our guild taught us the same way. I came across the paper just a few months ago and thought I wouldn't remember, but thanks to Jenny my memory is refreshed
This is such a neat approach to doing "on point" squares and I LOVE the idea of a picnic quilt and basket for a bridal shower gift!!! Never would have thought of that! Thank you for sharing your talents and ideas. I really enjoy your tutorials.
I couldn't see where you were going with this but WOW! This saves so much material (and time!) NOT having to cut the 1/2 square triangles for the sides! Genius!
Love, love, love this!!! No triangles to sew on the sides to make it on point! Woohoo!!! As usual great tutorial. I am never disappointed. I see a lot of these in my future. Thanks, Jenny. 😊
I am just starting to make quilts for charity. This would be a good one to do cause it is not too hard, and looks great on point! It lets the fabric shine! Thanks, Jenny.
Amazing…!!! You gave me the confidence to start quilting, when I came across you seven years ago and you continue to do so. I can’t wait to use this technique. I do love choosing fabric and piecing my tops together. This will be a pleasant change, Thank You 💐
Just when I think there must be an end to your innovation, you prove again that you are the quilting queen! This! This is why I don't do on point, and here you've figured it out and made it so easy!. Thank you, Jenny!
Love your tutorials so much. Love when you and Natalie and Misty do three different versions of quilts. I’ve ordered several templates from you to start making some cool quilts. Got the templates because I’m new and I want my cuts to be exact. Thank you so much for sharing and teaching me how to quilt.
Brilliant!! I love how you figure all this stuff out so I don't have to by myself! This is a beautiful quilt and far easier than working "on point". Thanks Jenny once again!
@@janeymacd4161 Just seeing this now. Thank you - I just wanted to use up some squares so I was laying out white/pattern and wondering if this would work
Absolutely love this! Our group is making small, simple quilts for kids that must have an exam due to some sort of abuse. With nice fabrics, this is just what we need. Thanks so much!
I just made this starting with 9x18 5 inch squares. It's such a fun pattern and with a border it's big enough to use on my queen sized bed! Thanks for this pattern! Starting a second one
Susan Gordon I would lessen the number of squares. For this hack to work, it needs to be twice as wide as it is long. Jenny did 6x12, but you could do 5x10 or 4x8, or even 3x6

I tried this with 3 inch scrappy squares! 12 across, 24 down, worked like a charm! Thanks Jenny!
Thanks for the measurements. Just what I wanted.
How can I make this larger, to make it like a lap quilt. Should I do nine across and 18 down? Thank you.

oh such a good idea!!
