I gave up on perfection and almost gave up on quilting until I watched this video. My quilts will never be showstoppers, just blankets made with love! Isn’t that what we are trying to pass on to our grandchildren?
i know im asking randomly but does anybody know a tool to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot the login password. I would appreciate any help you can give me
@Izaiah Caleb I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Growing up I had no one to teach me quilting ... I pulled a good one ... at 45, I decided to make a quilt. The quilt was a king size quilt with 2" finished squares in a "Around the World" pattern. No pre-cut strips, no special cutter (just scissors) and no sewing strips together, then cutting the strips of blocks ... no one had told me that could be done to make it easier. I added a 6" border ... and hand quilted it (without a quilter's rack) ... turned out better than I expected. With it, I won an honorable mention at the fair. That experience kinda put the idea of more quilts on the back burner ... I worked full time. Oh how I wish I knew someone like you, way back then. (I'll be 70 this year ... and still have the quilt.) You have motivated me to getting back into it again. ;) Thank-you! (I think ... nah, just kidding ... I'm sure.) Have you ever wondered how many quilts have been inspired by you ... quilts that would not be here, if not for you? :) The memories of warm hugs that now come to mind wrapped in the warm quilt around you, even tho the quilter is no longer here. You inspire more than you know. God bless.
Jo Ann McCraw I hope all your children and especially grandchild have a blanket/quilt made with love I believe in putting hugs into something like a stuffed animal so child ham hug it and be comforted Wouldn’t it be nice for kids to have grandma hugs that last way beyond your lifetime and hugs don’t wash out but you can always add more to it then all they need to do to feel you closer is to wrap it around them to have a hug and love. I wish I had a quilt from my grandma.
Once I was watching Sewing with Nancy, and Nancy Zieman (rest her soul--I miss her!) showed how if you have a longer fabric that you need to ease in, you put it on the bottom and the feed dogs will ease it in....just like you did, Jenny. Her little memory aid was : Feed the Dogs. I loved it and have never forgotten it. Thanks for the video tutorial!
@loladawn. Yes, Nancy Zieman will forever be missed. I started sewing almost 55 years ago, at age 11. Over time, with many home-ec classes, and countless episodes with Nancy teaching, I can point to her as a great influence on my sewing. Now, I’ve been quilting for about 27 months and enjoy MSQC, and Jenny, et al as great teachers! Thanks to all, including comments, as I’ve learned here, also! Happy sewing!
OMG! After watching my mother-in-law hand piece the granny square, I had put it on the "won't ever be doing that" list (along with the wedding ring & the cathedral window) but now I am doing to do the granny square!!! I have the perfect jellyroll, the Monet set with a heavy cream background. I am so excited!!!!!
Beverly Nelson There are some great tutorials out there on the cathedral windows Watch many of them they all teach a little trick to make it easier and one way might be easier for you than another try a couple... good luck
When I made my first quilt, I didn't have a computer or any family around to teach me. Boy oh boy ... do I wish I knew you back then. My first quilt was a "Trip Around the World" (California King size) made with 2 inch finished squares (1,088 squares) ... no individual blocks ... just all squares and one 6 inch border. I sewed the squares on the sewing machine, but hand quilted it. Got an "honorable mention" at the local fair. It was a labor of love for my then boyfriend (now husband). It took me more than 6 months to make ... I worked full time at that time. Just now getting back to quilting .... you make it so quick and easy ... love it!
What a sweet story! We are happy to hear that you have stuck with quilting and now can accomplish some of the same beautiful patterns in much less time with some of the tips and tricks Jenny teaches! :) Thanks for sharing!
Fun blocks. I can see this wee beauty with bright bright colours. Neon green, hot pinks, turquoise etc., would be super in a younger age room. It’s a beauty. Plus it’s a jelly roll quilt. Fantastic.
I agree with Shelly Boyle's and many of the other comments. I like the chopped off corners, too, making the soft edge. She's right----soft like a grandma's hug. Nice job, Jenny.!!
I am so thankful to the helper at MSQC who took my call this week in which I asked about a tutorial that I had viewed and inadvertently deleted. The kind lady was patient with me, and really took time trying to help me identify what I had deleted. All I could tell her was I wanted to make the Goodnight Irene quilt using 2 1/2” strips rather than the charm packs, and the tutorial was on making a four patch using strips. I wasn’t very helpful in my description of the tutorial, but I did remember it was sewn with batiks. This tutorial on The turnabout granny square WAS IT!! Thank you! I like to think that the sweet helper found it and had you rerun it just for me-I had not given her my contact info. Love your stores, my daughter and I have been to Hamilton and enjoyed the trip. Your employees are wonderful.
I am currently looking at fabric that I can't decide on a pattern for my next quilt project. This is it. AND I am going to make a wooden plaque "FINISHED IS BETTER THAN PERFECT". That's a great granny quote for my grand and great grand children to hear. Thanks for both of these.
"Finished is better than perfect"! I'm going to write this on a post it note and attach to my machine! I just finished piecing my first ever quilt top last night! So I'm super excited to head on over to Hamilton to spend the the day in Missouri Star Quilting Co to find my backing!!
Congrats on your first quilt top, Pam! That's such a wonderful accomplishment, and we can't wait to see it! We're looking forward to seeing you here in Hamilton!!! :)
Boy, I thought the block on point would be complicated. NOT the Jenny way, woo hoo! And I agree that the softening of the corners is a good look. Something different! I’m making this one!!!
Jenny this is pure genius! My only Grand daughter will be turning 18 next month, graduating from High school this year too so I am going to make this quilt for Her birthday. The rounded edges give the granny square blocks softer edges while the batik fabrics add modern appeal to a classic pattern, that sure fits my Grand daughter & I :) I know she will love it as much as I will love making it. Thank You so much. God Bless You all...
I gotta tell ya, I looked at this quilt with trepidation because of the tiny squares. Boy, was I relieved when I saw the 2.5" strips! This one I can manage. Thanks for making it so much easier!
You had me going there for a minute, have to admit, like What is she doing??? Such a great quilt! I love the softened corners - they look gentle and old-fashioned, like a crocheted Granny Square blanket. As I watched I was marveling at your creative mind. Such a gift to the world! I look forward to making this one.
Jenny, the rounded corners make it look like the traditional granny square: the crocheted type made of yarn! For those of us who never quite get all our points sharp this is a bonus!
Rewatching this video & bells go off. I have the perfect jelly roll, waiting for an adorable pattern. Jenny you’ve done it again! Sparked my enthusiasm. Thanks so much for all you do. Now, years ago, & every time I forget to say thank you to all your crew! Happy sewing 🧵!
"Finished is better than perfect." This inspires me so much, Jenny! I have just hand basted my very first quilt top and backing after approximately 15 years! Don't know what I was even thinking when I made the quilt top and back. They are 9 feet by 9 feet! Lots of room for practicing free motions quilting samples. Everyone has to have a "first," right? Love this quilt, too!!! Will make it, eventually. "Turnabout Granny"...that's me to a T!
Agreed! This is my new mantra!! Finished is better than perfect. I made a beautiful Alter Ego quilt in fall colors that you showed and I made a scalloped Edge it was so beautiful. But while I was making those little blocks I ran out of my favorite Fabric and wanted to use it just a little bit more. I piece together scraps to make two tiny blocks and I was afraid that it would be a flaw in the quilt. It takes us a long time to find them when we try to look for them they just don't show and the quilt is gorgeous! Finished is better than perfect!
Oh my word! I didn’t see that coming when you cut the patches into triangles and put them together like that! Jenny, your mind is amazing to think of these! Love your tutorials. I’m putting this one on my loonngg to-do list.
What a fantastic block...honestly, I had no idea where you were going with it when you began...what you had going on the mat did NOT match what I was seeing on the wall behind you...thank you for another wonderful tutorial! 👍🏻👵🏻
Thank you once more for and ingenious block. I very much like on point blocks but have trouble doing them.I love the saying 'finished is better than perfect.' I have four quilts waiting to be sandwiched and finished and can't get them done for various reasons. But This will be my mantra from now on. As you say, Jenny, no one is inspecting these quilts because they are just so happy to get them. I am going to make this into a cushion cover first before making a quilt to try out colours. Thank you so much for your hard work and smile.
I love that the points are softened with this method. I can’t wait to get some cream colored strips to go with my Civil war jelly roll!!! Next project for sure. Thank you so much for your tutorials. Friday morning is my favorite part of the week!!!’
Ann Correll Lucky son I’m #4 of 6 My mom made the mistake of sew and tell about her first 50year quilt for #1 child.... she slaved over the top queen size top and got only the top done before number one hit fifty.... so she showed him and he turned up his nose at it and said no thanks I don’t like it or the colors so.... mom had a dark browns perfectly pieced top that she’ll probably never finish and find a grateful person that will love it... she also used first run fabrics. I bought this pattern, and I totally love how it's looking. I got to the point of having all the strip sets cut, and in piles. Then I went ahead and made 2 blocks all the way to finished squares. I really love how this looks! I love the look of the lost points. Maybe I'm not experienced enough, but for me this isn't a quilt I could get done in a weekend. I mean, from cutting to sewing, and have the whole quilt top done. It's so pretty it'll be worth the effort, but I'd tell other newbies to expect this to take a good amount of time.
I so love this block, as with most the others. I love what Jenny’s says about “finished is better perfect”. That is so me. Love the orange sweater, by the way.
I am working on this one at the moment & I am very pleased at the way it is coming out. I changed the white to a cobalt blue & worked the strips from there. VERY PLEASED!!
I actually like the rounded corners...... if one looks at the quilt from a 15" distance it looks as if "oh, all the corners are cut off!" If one looks at the quilt from farther away, as most quilts will be looked at, it makes the design look softer....... like a granny's hug!
Now isn't that just the cutest! I MUST do this one... First because it's wonderful and second because I'm a granny! Jenny and crew, awesomeness as always!! Thank y'all so much...
Love this quilt idea. Looks like a Lot of work, But Looks like a lot of FUN!!.. EZ to add few more squares to make it just a little bigger for queen/king sizes too. Couple of square sets for pillow shams, or dresser/table runners. one block would make a cute wall hanging. Ideas just keep running... Great also for using up left over strips. THANKS JENNY AND ALL.. This will be a must do on my list.......
If you do not like corners chopped off, you can make only the 2 1/2" wide white strip 3" wide, I think the problem will be solved, I did not try yet but I think it should match. Thank you Jenny for all your interesting tutorials.
I can't believe this video is a year old. I rushed to try this one using gray prints and a black background. It is stunning! I want to hurry up and finish this one and start another. It goes together so quickly. YAY thanks Jenny for another fabulous quilt video.
This is genius!!! I've been wanting to do the Granny Square Quilt and after watching this tutorial I feel confident I can do it. This is so far he best method I have seen yet. And faster!!! Love the colors too. This is on my to do quilt list for sure. Thank you. 😀✂️
In watching this after sewing the initial units together, I believe the bottom corner is going to end up in the center of the blocks. I’m re-looking at my units with this in mind. I hope I’m looking at it correctly. It’s such a pretty pattern. Happy sewing 🧵!
Thank you, thank you, thank you Jenny! I made this quilt top in a weekend and I love it. I used some fat squares and it turned out gorgeous! Your tutorials are so easy to follow. Keep it up!
beautiful this project Jenny, I was searching the technique easy and now you share with us your technique in this tutorial, I love all your tutorial because in each project are no wasted our fabrics and all the material is used, Thank you .
Jenny, You are awesome. I've been sewing for years and had no idea how this was going to work but there you are and it looks really great!!. I love it.
I appreciate that you make two of the same quilts with these tutorials. I can barely finish one quilt before getting annoyed with it mid way through, let alone make two, one after the other.
I truly like this block. For some reason though Jenny, I was expecting you to snowball the strips. I think I am going to try it that way. Yours is absolutely beautiful! I like larger quilts so I thought I would use 1 1/2 of each and snowball the corners. Wish me luck!
Thank you. Was looking for a traditional look with a modern twist. This pattern just went to the top of my list to make next. Please keep on making tutorials as it is so encouraging to try something different.
I’m in the middle process of making the two step quilt but this one will be next. Awesome technique. This is my first quilt. I couldn’t have done this without you.
It's so soft with the look of rounded corners! However, I still can't figure out why those center blocks still look the same size as the outer ones after the quadrants are sewn together. It's like magic!
I wondered how you softened the edges - deliberately chopping off the points - now this is my kind of quilt. I was unfamiliar with this pattern but had crocheted a granny sqaure afgan many years ago. This is definitely going on my must make list.
Great idea. Unfortunately I already cut my scraps into 2 1/2 inch squares. But I can make strips with them and use your technique. Thanks for a great video.
Another great tutorial. There is only 1 problem... Every time I watch your videos I was to start a new quilt! Geez lol, now I want to start a Granny Square!! Oh and I love that iron!!
My quilt I have two rolls and two stacks of little squares and some white background I hope my background is a heavier white cause I don’t like sheer background But I’m making plenty of random fun squares just trying out and brushing up on my skills.
Hi Jenny! I love it!! I am going to make one! I have made the traditional Granny Square block quilt in the past. This one looks so cute and easy, I have to give it a try! Thanks for another fab tutorial! Have a happy and blessed Mother's Day Jenny!!

Holy cow granny squares. What great shortcuts. You rock, Jenny!
Fun blocks. I can see this wee beauty with bright bright colours. Neon green, hot pinks, turquoise etc., would be super in a younger age room. It’s a beauty. Plus it’s a jelly roll quilt. Fantastic.

I love her comment "Finished is better than perfect"!
Love how the corners of color get chopped off. It gives the quilt a soft block looking edge. Soft like a grandma hug!

ORANGE looks Great on you Jenny!
I just love your joy and your natural way of doing things - you are my kind of quilter - don’t stress just create
Turn-About Granny! Perfect name!
This is genius!!! I've been wanting to do the Granny Square Quilt and after watching this tutorial I feel confident I can do it. This is so far he best method I have seen yet. And faster!!! Love the colors too. This is on my to do quilt list for sure. Thank you. 😀✂️
Yay!! We're thrilled to hear that, Tracey! Be sure and share your Turnabout Granny Squares quilt with us on social using #msqcshowandtell! :)
I made a lap quilt with this pattern, it turned out beautifully! Thanks Jenny!
Keep it up!
We're so happy to hear that Julie! We'd love to see a picture of this quilt of yours sometime!
not only these batiks are so beautiful, this is smart!

I Am making this quilt now following you instructions and my sewing is Improving thank you so much .
Jenny you did it again, I love it.You are the best.Thank you for all you do for us. Much love to you and MSQC.
Jenny, You are awesome. I've been sewing for years and had no idea how this was going to work but there you are and it looks really great!!. I love it.
As a novice quilter your tutorials are informational and easy to understand
I appreciate that you make two of the same quilts with these tutorials. I can barely finish one quilt before getting annoyed with it mid way through, let alone make two, one after the other.
I truly like this block. For some reason though Jenny, I was expecting you to snowball the strips. I think I am going to try it that way. Yours is absolutely beautiful! I like larger quilts so I thought I would use 1 1/2 of each and snowball the corners. Wish me luck!
That sounds like a fun way to do it! We surely hope you share photos of your creation with us! :)
If you work with half strips instead of full strips you will get more of a variety. Fun pattern!
I love your idea. I'm doing it now and the variety of color combinations is so much fun. Thanks for the tip!
I really love the color of your sweater, and it looks pretty on you...👍🏻👵🏻
Beautiful and scrappy!! You give us so much inspiration and with the "finished is better than perfect" ... who could resist??!! Thanks so much!!!
Thank you. Was looking for a traditional look with a modern twist. This pattern just went to the top of my list to make next. Please keep on making tutorials as it is so encouraging to try something different.
How pretty you look today. Happy Mothers Day!!
What a beautiful quilt with beautiful colours! 👍👍👍
So great to see you!
I love it!! thank you so much Jenny!
I just found my next quilt.....something to do with my purple jellyrolls....thanks Jenny!
Yay, Gail! Happy quilting!
I’m in the middle process of making the two step quilt but this one will be next. Awesome technique. This is my first quilt. I couldn’t have done this without you.
Buenos días Sra. Jenny usted hace fácil lo que parece difícil, bonito trabajo, un abrazo desde Caracas-Venezuela
I love this! I was so surprised to see the block cut in half--this is genius! I also love the soft edges made when sewing the sashing!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I´m brasilian and I've learned a lot with you.
Great tutorial Jenny. Never would have thought to cut the blocks in half on the diagonal.
I really like this method, I need to try it. It would even be a cute table runner. Thank you for the tutorial.
This would make such a fun table runner Paula! Great idea!
I love this quilt, possibilities! Unless you are a pro those points are over-rated. Done is definitely better than perfect. Thanks Jenny.
I'll admit, I was not seeing it when you sewed the strips together. But, I love it. Thank you so much, definitely on my basket list.
Estou fazendo este bloco ,olho várias vezes mas vou chegar lá ,sou grata❤
You always make these look easy enough for even a beginner like me to give a try. Now let's just see if I can pull one off!!!
Thank you so much! You'll do a great job with this pattern! :)
@@MissouriQuiltCo Thanks for the vote of confidence....I needed that!
Oh how beautiful...you make everything seem so easy. Thanks for sharing Jenny.
Omg! I had lost my Sewjo woke up to You making this awesome quilt! Going to start one today! Thank you sew much!
Thank you for making it real. Real good, real easy. Happy Mothers Day from Australia.
Love how you simplify quilts I’d never attempt - and that apricot sweater is so pretty on you! Thanks and Happy Mother’s Day
I was thinking the same thing about the sweater. 😊
Great idea. Unfortunately I already cut my scraps into 2 1/2 inch squares. But I can make strips with them and use your technique. Thanks for a great video.
Brilliant !!!! Thanks so much for this video and your tips and tricks which is most appreciated. And giving all the dimensions and quantities needed.🌻
Jenny, you are so talented and you make everything look so easy!! Thank you for sharing your expertise with us. I eat this stuff up!!
Another great tutorial. There is only 1 problem...
Every time I watch your videos I was to start a new quilt! Geez lol, now I want to start a Granny Square!! Oh and I love that iron!!
Michelle H
The op bet you could do a couple squares of each of her new tutorials and eventually make a real scrappy quilt.
My quilt I have two rolls and two stacks of little squares and some white background I hope my background is a heavier white cause I don’t like sheer background
But I’m making plenty of random fun squares just trying out and brushing up on my skills.
Awesome!!! Thank you for sharing this as a free pattern.
Hi Jenny! I love it!! I am going to make one! I have made the traditional Granny Square block quilt in the past. This one looks so cute and easy, I have to give it a try! Thanks for another fab tutorial! Have a happy and blessed Mother's Day Jenny!!
This one is in my list.
Oh my. I am in love with this pattern.
losing the points actually gives it a kind of softer look. I like it.
Love the rounded corners, and the construction is just genius. I can’t wait to make one of these! Thank you Jenny!
