They came to Milwaukee in 74 we absolutely loved them. I just played First Base again today while I was cleaning as I often do. I’m 65 now and I enjoy and appreciate them even more than I did when I was 17. True talent, the music really holds up as a result.
Heard this for the first time driving home late one night from night school class in 1972 here in OZ. Blew my mind and have been listening to it and their debut album ever since. A brilliant band and Alan Shacklock is such an underrated and under appreciated guitarist. They deserved more.
I saw you in ‘72 Jenny. I was your age. You were an artistic force of nature the likes of which this world rarely experiences. A thing of vital energy and beauty. Thank you.
SO many super talented bands in the ‘70s that fell thru the cracks. A period with an abundance of creativity. I was a radio DJ thru the entire ‘70s and got to play ALL this stuff on American radio.
I've listened to their whole discography in the last few days and this is seriously their BEST song. Though my favourite will be... "4 dear life" and "Break for the border".
I wore out 2 albums of First Base. Really beautiful music and vocals. Great to finally see a video to go along with it. This band should be in the hall of fame.
An amazing band, have all their albums….love Black Dog….painted the First Base cover on my best friends slanted bedroom ceiling when we were teenagers in the mid 1970’s….
I have been a big BR fan for over 40 years. Finaly got to see them live in 2010. Jenny was my favorite rock singer all this time until a few months ago
@@donnajean3202 Jenny is irreplaceable, She will always be my first love and is still a facebook friend. To get to your question , very few singers have been able to impress me as mush as Jenny but Sara of Motion Device has. She started signing rock covers with her band when she was only 8 and now at 18 she is the best sigher and song writher I know
@@dancan6622 - I never heard of Jenny and Babe Ruth until about 3 or 4 years ago here on RUclips which is weird because I have lived in Toronto Canada most of my life and it looks like Jenny was very popular in Canada. Although I would have only been 11 years old when this performance happened and I was just starting to really get into music at that time.
Definitely creepier than Jesse Winchester did it . The Thud bass and Janita Haan's wicked Vocals just take the song places that Jesse's Baritone Voice and Acoustic guitar just couldn't go . It's similar to what both Jimi Hendrix and Frank Marino did with Bob Dylan's All Along the Watchtower

You took the words right out of mouth . Infact I would say better then Janis. And that's no disrespect to Janis. Maybe if she had got more publicity Jenny could of made it bigger on the music scene. But a great band.
I saw Jesse Winchester (the songwriter) at a concert, at Queensway Carleton Raceway, in 1979. The main act was the Eagles. Chilliwack was also in the lineup, along with two other bands. I didn’t know he was a draft dodger. It is a pity that the whole song isn’t here.
The performance of Black Dog on The Old Grey Whistle Test captivated me then and nearly 50 years later I still love the music.Great to see this edition but I must admit apart from Jenny I reckon everyone else is miming;still well worth watching though..

I was at that concert At the Oriental Theater. Roxy Music Opened. Incredible show. I had the original album Ripped off by a so called friend.
Wildly underrated band that I grew up listening to and seeing as a kid back in the 70's. Still listen.
I love discovering new music by randomly clicking videos.

My cousin saw Juanita Haans at the Fforde Grene in Leeds in the early 70s.
One of my very first albums I bought. Love this band, sadly underrated!
Passion AND talent....works every time.
Babe Ruth is fantastic
Great song! Great band! Janita Haans is one of the most underated and sadly forgotten singers of rock music.
Her voice peels the paint off the wall!
Tarcísio Moura So damn true.
It's True my friend.!!But don't forget Ellie Hope had Astoundin voice too..and she is also, totally underrated and forgotten..!!!
She is not forgotten! Babe Ruth is still touring!
Underrated yes but not forgotten. Not by me at least
I listened to this song first time today.Just brilliant.

Muy bonita. La primera vez que la escucho en you tube. Reitero aparte de bonita. magnífica
That bass!!! Yeow! 🤘🏻🔥🖤
Elusive brilliant guitar riff
Great song, great band, great vocals!!!
This song is before my time, but it's really grown on me
Amazing, has to be one of the best anthems of of the 70's
Absolutely amazing, thank You!
what a voice...what a band!!

This bassman sure do the job !
Great music never dies.

Absolute magic it must go on my all time favorite list

The second best song called "Black Dog" that I have ever heard.
Janita Haan and Babe Ruth are far from quitting. What I have heard is just unbeliveable. Yes I am a lifelong fan
I bought their first LP when it was released. Great to see this video.
je vous aime, i like you ! merci, tank you for your good music!
Happy Birthday Jenny Haan🎂🎤 05-09-2022
wow. She has a very good voice.
Une chanteuse qui vit la chanson qu'elle chante, j'adore!

i love babe ruth ,,janita is as beutiful now as she was then and they have loads of new tracks out ...the whole album is a work of art..

Awesome. Watched this on the Whistle Test at the time and saw them perform it live when I was around 14 years old.
Marcou para sempre, e de forma incrível, o Rock!
Used to play with my radio show fantastic

Alan Shacklock is a master on the guitar. Check out his solo on King Kong from their excellent First Base album.

Awesome, just awesome!
super band 1972
Just now found this right now. Jan 11 2022. I thought this was going to be a cover of the Zeppelin song. Tell us all about this band etc..
So good it's crazy.
So great music
Film in England at the BBC on the Old Grey Whistle Test late night program in 1972
when i see her sing i feel very touched
excellent
Sometimes I forget there's a Led Zeppelin song with the same title. "Black Dog" to me, is this.
A tin can full of words that smell of chicken.
+jeanarousi Janita Haans wrote this song about having sex with her black labridore which she learned from watching a Linda Lovelace movie.
+JoJoGunn haans didn't write this jesse winterton did!its about guilt
+jeanarousi This is actually a Jesse Winchester song that they covered. His version is a slow folk ballad
It's about a black dog.
Saints 70 years !!! Jenne Haan.- great singer !
Best ever girl rock band, drummer incredible vocal, all good voices though. Guitarist great, driven by organ, fantastic, groovy gals 😣😉✌️
JENNY. The best rock chick singer ever.

She definitely reminds me of Joplin here.
the only difference is that she is more talented that she was and much more mature as she decided to live and create
