    The D'kyr is indeed a 22nd century beast. I didn't consider the similarities between the D'kyr & D'deridex before but in retrospect it does make sense for some commonalties. It makes me wonder if that tactic was used as far back as during the Vulcan sundering.

  • @ISAF_Ace
    @ISAF_Ace Год назад +4

    The biggest disadvantages of this ship are quite clear however, with the Vulcans focusing of large warships in the 22nd century of all places, the numbers they can field are going to be very limited. With their navy even seeming to only really go for the D'kyr in an offensive aspect, they're going to be heavily outnumbered in every encounter and will suffer for it. The loss of single D'kyr would have been devastating as it represents a significant portion of their naval strength, its why the high command was so interested in the loss of the Seleya. Sure if we assume that a war between the andorians and vulcans would be like Jutland, then the vulcan focus on heavy combatants would allow it to absorb heavier losses much like the royal navy did; but the andorians don't focus on heavy capital ships and it isn't world war 1.
    The andorians having much larger numbers of more manoeuvrable warships would allow them to throw more ships at a D'kyr and exploit its less than adequate weapon coverage. This is even seen when a D'kyr is overwhelmed by 4 small tholian craft, their manoeuvrability and near technological parody with the vulcans allowed them to very quickly overwhelm and disable it. I imagine that this would repeat itself if they had been a similar number of Romulan raptors. The Vulcans also wouldn't be able to as easily absorb losses in the face of superior andorian numbers which I have no doubt they would exploit. My reasoning for the Vulcans arcs of fire being inadequate is the battle in Kir'Shara where an andorian force, which should have been overwhelmed quickly, survives by going into CQB with Vulcans.
    In a prolonged war against the andorians, the Vulcans wouldn't have been able to sustain losses, and the casualty adverse high command wouldn't have accepted them anyway. The D'kyr is the right ship in the wrong era.

    I have a 22nd century design that's 637 meters in length. I wasn't really trying to beat-out the Vulkans in terms of ship lengths when I made my ship. It just so happened that the unit conversions put its length at 637 meters. However, my ship *is* officially classified as a battleship with comparable technology, so it might be able to go 1v1 against the D`kyr. Assuming my vessel doesn't fire nearly 200 antimatter warheads at the K'kyr on its first volley.

    I've just had a thought. In "broken bow", T'pol is very concerned by a small error in the Enterprise's course to Kronos, yet the human crew laughed it off. Maybe this is because she is used to a ship that literally can't manoeuvre at warp. So, the vulcans developed a very strict SOP for navigation. Forgetting the NX01, can infact turn 🤣🤣.

    I have no problem with the Vulcan's having humongous ships for the 22nd Century. They were basically THE Superpower of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants and had been so for centuries at this point, the only true competitor being the Klingons who are pound for pound weaker than they are. I mean even in the 24th Century their own personal Starfleet was fielding fricking Star Destroyer sized ships (considering how one compared to the Cerritos) and they still maintained the technological edge over the rest of the people in the Federation.

    "Combat cruiser" sounds like the kind of political games that lead to the UK's through-deck cruisers, or how the Zumwalt class are officially DDs despite being heavier, longer, and slightly beamier than the Royal Navy's last predreadnaught class, the Lord Nelson class.
    A cool follow on from the Vulcan fleet tactics and doctrine would be a video on the influence of Vulcan and Andorian tactics and doctrine on Starfleet of the 22nd and 23rd C.

      In all fairness, ship types get larger over time. The USN's early battleships in the 1890s were ~10k tons. By the 1920s, "heavy" cruisers capped at 10k tons. By the 1940s, the Cleveland-class light cruisers were 10k tons. And these days, guided missile destroyers clock in around 10k tons. As for political games... the UK's "large light cruisers" comes to mind. ;)
      That being said, Vulcans like to put themselves forward as peaceful, etc. As such, I would be surprised if they'd ever (at least by the time of First Contact with humanity) designate something as a dreadnought or battleship or the like. So what happens if they have a design that would qualify as such? Calling it a "combat cruiser" is a good way to sidestep the issue by making it sound like one of their regular designs, but angled more towards fighting.
      In a similar way, I mentally redesignate all Starfleet dreadnoughts/"battleships" as "large cruisers" since they generally seem to be based on established cruiser design styles and it sounds less warlike than battleship or dreadnought, which would be important to getting funding from Federation Parliament. Because battleships, battlecruisers, and dreadnoughts implies a "battle fleet," which is the opposite of what the Federation wants to appear as (peaceful) to the wider galaxy.

      I mean, what are they going to call it otherwise to designate it a warship? Destroyer? Cruiser? Frigate? Terms already in use. Battleship? Not remotely powerful enough to count.
