Glad your back! Can you please do a video on Ireland VS Argentina. I thought the way that Ireland defended the maul and disrupted the Argentinian rucks were a new level of working in the gray area of the law.

I dont agree. This bro is disrespecting all the reffs. It's clear since 23' reffs are trying to give us a fast nice spectacle and they really try their best, thats their job. If you psycho analise like this guy you get this result. Reffs cant stop the game every 2m. Everyone complained about the 23' game being to slow and stop start, now people are gonna harass the reffs when they are only doing their what the fans wanted in the first place. The ref was actually really good in this game, we should stop looking for penalties everywhere and just enjoy the spectacle as it is now, fast and entertaining. If there really was an bad call WR has it's own channel with an former reff Nigel Owens who gives us some insight not some utuber who moans about every ruck, if reffs did what this channel is showing us rugby will be done as a spectacle...

@@JohnTerblanche-l1rmaybe if the refs were more consistent, we wouldn’t have to watch these videos. How the hell do you miss a penalty or dangerous tackle in front of your eyes, plus they have TMO. Rugby is a contact sport, if refs ignore the rules, a lot of great players will have to retire early. Imagine not giving a penalty or red or yellow card because the game needs to flow, like what the hell. And btw, if you don’t like his videos, don’t watch them. Some of us enjoy it. Sharp

@@JohnTerblanche-l1r i dont agree with you , theres channels that nitpick teams and players thats fine but when its refs people start getting precious about it. i like his insights and his analysis of refereeing hes not implying refs should stop the game every ruck either. but i do like when shows ref being inconsistent especially at scrum-times and shows there is a bigger problem which is that world rugby adds rules every year but hardly rescinds old rules.

@@JohnTerblanche-l1r I agree that we should welcome a fast paced game, but what counts for one should surely count for the other. The blatant poor officiating that could be seen on the live game is not due to over analysis of gameplay, how many spectators saw the neck roll from the same player happen twice and only a warning issued. If we expect a standard in officiating saying we want a faster game, but welcome more calls from the TMO, then we are headed nowhere and the standard is lost. The officiating was mid at best for this game. your claim at "refs cant stop the game every 2min" holds no weight, when that is exactly what the ref did at the second half, unfortunately england could not capitalize on it, but how many times did the ref stop the game in the second due to poor discipline on the SA side? how long was ENG in the SA 22' because of this? Mid-Poor officiating. There is no standard.

Dan Cole’s ‘side entry’ in which he never changed his bind and is therefore legal

  • @elliottsw
    @elliottsw Месяц назад +33

Great video! I have a few responses as someone who works in this area. 1) The ball went backwards. Not a knock on. 2) Good spot, however it could be that because of the short closing distance, the SA player didn't have time to get in to position before the England player was on him. Maybe. 3) His arms are clearly stretched out attempting to wrap the legs of the player. Just because he failed the tackle doesn't mean it was a no arms tackle. It should be a head injury assessment, not a yellow card. 4) Yep, definitely a neck roll. The second one I'm not so sure, he was binding and fell to the side when he was pushed, and let go. If he pulled the SA player with him then maybe, and maybe his intent was a neck roll - but it didn't happen. 5) Diving in to the ruck, yeah he does seem to be - but it could be a legal attempt to touch the ball down on the line, I'm not sure though I think you're right. 6) Definitely a penalty, nothing SA12 could do about that. This is similar to number 2 in your video. 7) The SA obstruction is more deliberate because as he is running back to get onside he slows down deliberately in front of the catching player to prevent anyone contesting the ball or tackling him when he lands - the England ones are worth looking at but I *think* they don't slow down and aren't directly in front of the receiver - the SA player gets to the ball in most of your clips, as the England player is out of the way. That's the difference, they're not obstructing the tackle once the carrier lands. 8) That's a great spot, both lineouts and scrums have become increasingly slack with people ignoring the laws and refs not enforcing them. Because there are so many set plays, players focus on doing their role instead of following the rules. 9) The England player is not offside because he was onside when he initially bound to the maul and did not release his bind. He has to be onside when he initially binds, he does not have to release if it turns. 10) England 6 did not try to collapse the maul, he was ripped out of it and thrown to the floor. The players who then tripped over him were not bound to the maul and therefore not part of it. The ball is further up the pitch, still in the maul. 11) England 8 did not go off his feet, he was on his feet (although very close to his knees) and his hands were on the tackled player. The SA player comes round the side (also arguably off his feet in a similar position) and picks up the ball. If the SA player stepped over instead of diving round this would have been okay. The reason SA get penalised for going off their feet is that the England counter ruckers actually form a ruck over the ball to contest it, unlike the previous example where SA just dived in round the side without forming a gate. 12) Back to the scrums it's the same thing, SA famously always pull their opponents down - so much so that refs don't even seem to notice it. How are props supposed to stay upright when their opponent is putting all their weight on their shirt, tugging them to the ground? It needs sorting out. 13) The advantage would go away after a certain number of phases, and usually goes as soon as you kick the ball. What makes you say it was a penalty advantage?

I'm just an interested rugby viewer (Aussie) and I think you are right on your assessments. Worth noting that on (1) whether the ball is knocked on or not is moot since Kolisis (the tackler) and also Libbock are both very offside having run forward immediately the ball is thrown by George - no waiting for it to clear the 15m line. De Allende and the outside backs held their position. The offside move happened behind the ref so needed the AR's to call it. AR's never call lineout throwers for having their feet on touch and in the field of play. The only excuse is that they have eyes up looking for more impactful stuff and they still miss this sort of thing. It is frustrating when obvious stuff gets missed.

The obstruction rule at kicks is a mess. NZ has been absolutely hammered with penalties from this. Not seeing the consistency for other teams either. The foul play for head contact is also an utter mess of a rule. Dipping into the tackle (the fault of the attacking player) is responsible for 80% of these incidents. The strictness around these accidental incidents are sending players who are in correct tackling positions to the sin bin which is making the game generally worse, not better. There needs to be an adjustment to the rule whereby any dipping or ducking into a tackle that provokes head contact should be deemed accidental and thus exempt from any 'foul play' sanctions.

I agree on De Allende high tackle and english double banking and Dan Cole binding from the wrong side of the maul. The other are either down to referee feeling either just wrong. Ben Earls clearly knocks it backward, the high tackle on Itoje is not clear (there is no ricochet on the head, maybe it was just shoulder on shoulder) the scrums need to be seen from both sides and Kolisi double receiver is completely fine to me. Also if you compete at the breakdown and than you go off feat is fine, you must not go straight to ground before competing. Ben Earls no arms tackle is a 50-50 as he clearly tries to wrap but fails by a lot.

What I can’t understand is the TMO interference and totally wrong calls when they have replay and time to review! There’s no excuse for that! Look at the All Blacks last couple of games, TMO calls a neck roll when it clearly wasn’t against France at a crucial time in the match, and this was Marius Jonker a seasoned referee! then fast forward a week and the TMO is begging the referee to give a yellow when the referee has made his decision! Good on him for sticking with his call! TMO needs massive restriction I feel?

    1. When SA6 hit ENG 8, the ball gos backwards
    2. ENG 8 Dives at the knee. The Eng8 is statonay as the contact is made and is pushed down due to the force of the contact
    3. The differences with clearing with the kicks is that the SA play slows infront of the catcher where as the eng players continue to run past the catcher
    4. Dan Cole is not in a offside position, as at point of contact he is at the front of the maul
    5. There is a difference between collapsing the maul and not collapsing the maul
This channle name should be changed to "cry more because refs cant be perfect"

Your knowledge of rugby boggles the mind! The fact your comment starts with "This channel is riddled with inaccuracies" says mountains. Consider starting your own channel to argue your interpretations. All opinions matter, but to start the comment the way you did is unnecessary. I'll end my comment this way, 4 times World Champions, current Rugby Championship champions, number one in the world, most respected opposition of the All Blacks, their supporters can't be that inaccurate.

@@EliJon378this video criticises both sides, assuming anyone who disagrees with the criticism is an England fan is a bit odd. If this channel is a SA fan channel then it should say so but it seems to be balanced and fair to me (even if I disagree with some of the analysis).

@@elliottsw I'm assuming it's a SA supporter because it only seems to show SA videos, and there's nothing in the rules that says it should say who they support. Yes you're right, it does show both sides, and it is fair and balanced.

I get why you do this in that channels are now monetised and negativity breeds popularity, but they're not helpful. You are criticising decisions which can easily be missed in the speed of the game.
Wasn't it Wayne Barnes when he retired said that we either accept the game with referee errors or we meticulously review every decision with the TMO to ensure right decisions. I know which one I'd prefer.
I think it would be better to include more positives about the ref, else it just feeds into the awful rhetoric that has crept into the game.

The 12 was trying to buy a yellow. SA 12 stopped dead in his tracks a meter before contact. The 12 then rams his head up into SA 12, he could have easily lowered his head to stomach level and did a drive with his feet to gain meters instead he reared his head up for nothing. He was having a shite game anyway, they had a overlap once in SA 22, just for him to kick the ball dead. SA12 is a world cup winner, best 12 SA has ever had arguably. just for some shite club lvl player who runs like a bull into his head, Damian has tackled many 12s in similar positions for years. I think the 12 wanted to be removed because he knew he was playing average, he got smashed by KLA, and when they had a chance in 2nd half, he popped the ball to the 13 who got smashed by Kriel, instead of the behind the back to Marcus who is their best player and had a possible overlap...

The game has become WWE. The team that is trailing will always get the benefit of the doubt or no one sees their trangressions, its like a participation medal. this is to ensure cliff-hanger games. Unfortunately its not right and should be investigated. I suspect the officials are under clear instructions, to me this is match fixing and over dramatization of games. We will never see big wins again.

I will never understand how people could understand the fact that all 46 players on the day will make at least one mistake, however they expect the referee to have a perfect performance. The Autumn Nations series officiating was not the best I'll admit that, but to me the actions of the television match officials in many of the games were worse than the actions of the on field officials. Just an opinion and everyone's opinion sucks.

If the game gets analysed like this in slo mo play by play ball touch by ball touch, games will be 3 hours long, might as well turn it into Grid-iron with adverts during every review. You cannot expect a human ref to see every single infringement on field in real time, while you have the luxury of unlimited replays from 3+ angles. Get real mate.

Very first thing in your video, you have Kolisi tackling Earls and complain about Earl's knocking on. How about you check if Kolisi was onside? He should have been back 10m until the ball goes over the 15m line. Of course he ran forward as soon as George threw it, and Libbock was also very obviously offside. The AR's should have called it because that happens behind the back of the ref.

Every experienced rugby player can RE-referee a match with the aid of multiple angles, slow motion replays & all the rest & pin point numerous differences in the reading of decisions, fxxxxxg snore-bore!
Such tedious antics are guaranteed to destroy our great game. On balance such drawn out small minded dragging over the coals of a match evidences roughly equal good fortune for both sides.
Just play on gentlemen, this is rugby that we enjoy playing hard & fast without academic forensics of refereeing after the fact. Suggest people stop their bleating & whinging referee analytics.
