This is why the Springboks are so popular. They are always willing to engage and give back to the local community. Also, notice how that Japanese kid was in awe when Kwagga spoke to him in Japanese. That’s what makes this team special
Wow!!! The Boks are just such awesome guys and ambassador’s , they really stop and give time to each and every kid! Something that they will remember for the rest of their lives , right there is the most beautiful and precious part of sport. Heroes Creating the Future heroes, passion for being part of a team! That’s the essence of the beautiful game of rugby. I’m so very proud of them!!! Especially Rassie Ngiyabonga Ngakhulu Amabokke bokke!!!!
Hilarious to see Cheslin next those young lads 😅 The hits he guy can take would level a 6'4 bodybuilder and yet he picks himself up and keeps hammering the defensive line until he scores or limps off the field. The guy is a machine: a perfect example of mental strength trumping physical size.
Also was a boarder at Merchiston in Pietermaritzburg - straddled the old and the new school ‘’62-‘65. Our nickname was the ‘mud-rats’ & rugby was huge. Most of us went on to Maritzburg College.
Scotland is a special place, and the people there are of a kindred spirit with many of us Saffers - Many by blood, some by adoption of a new home. Thank you for hosting us, what a pleasure to be connected to you through Rugby.
Lots of Scottish place names along the eastern coast of SA and all the way down to CT. Some famous Scottish emigres too. I'm related to one: Andrew Bain, who among other things led the construction of the Bainskloof Pass, a road I first travelled 25 years ago, some 15o years after it was first built.
Yahoooo...All I want for Christmas 🎄 is my Springbok T Shirt 👕 signed ...Hier Kom die Bokke 😂😂😂...The World Champions 🏆 our Springboks....Rassie Striving all the way to the winning line .. Beatrix Strydom
Special for me to see the Springboks at Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh. I went to the Merchiston in South Africa - Merchiston Preparatory School in Pietermaritzburg. It was named after Merchiston Castle School. The likes of Jesse Kriel, Butch James, Craig Joubert, Kevin Pietersen, Darian Townsend & Jonty Rhodes also attended the school. Special moment for Jesse Kriel.
What a thrill also attended Merchiston... but in Edinburgh & emigrated to SA..in my time both Roger Baird & John Jeffrey attended. Both played for Scotland & the Lions.
Roddy, Merchi Head of Rugby, is a top lad, pupils all reflect it too-respectful and thankful. Staffers always seem humble and friendly, carry themselves well.
Fantastic experience for the young lads, I would however would like to see them go to other schools in the area, not just a fee paying one. Or even Merchiston could have invited other local teams to the training session
Our white Africans are total different from western white people, because they were born into the African culture, they have so much respect n humbleness.❤
Wonder if the boks will get out and speak to some of the small grass routs clubs and inspire some kids who need inspiring. I’m sure it was fun and inspiring for the Merchiston kids too but they are also some of the wealthiest and most privileged kids in Scotland.
History. The 1974 Lions had a clean sweep in South Africa and the 1980 team which was incredibly good too and Captained by Beaumont came to SA expecting to repeat that but got humbled by guys with no official test caps. Beaumont and Woodward don't seem to have forgotten that and I personally think carry some animosity over it because their 1974 peers had a lot to say about them in the press and were not very complimentary especially not being able to beat guys who did not play any test rugby. Ian McGeechan who was part of the 1974 team has often called Beaumont and Woodward out on their cynical view of the Springboks and promotes them. McGeechan was a big proponent o the Boks joining the Six Nations while Beaumont and Woodward blocked it.
Good insight- thanks. 1980 tour is my earliest memory of the Boks - think Gerrie Germeshuis took a quick line out which resulted in a try in the PE test
@@AndrewAW-w2l In all fairness as a South African we were pretty arrogant towards those Lions in 1980 and wanted revenge for 1974. However there was animosity over politics and sport being mixed and for them arriving somewhat entitled so we had a point to prove with a young Naas Botha showing his goods. It was a two way street but Woodward and Beaumont should have had more self reflection to understand that. There was also still even then animosity against Britian for what transpired in the Boer War. SA never really got an apology for British (which included NZ and Aussie troops) invading the Boer Republics and terminating 40,000 Boers and 60,000 Bantu in some very dirty tactics. It was very complex at the time and ironically if it were not for the war and the concentration camps rugby would likely not exist as big as it is in SA. The NZ All Blacks have the haka challenge. We had a mental challenge for a long time because rugby was was born from that war and winning was an extension of that. Its all water long under the bridge now.
So this school is raising money to help build a community in Cape Town? And then the Boks go there and get some one-on-one time with the kids? Yep, the warm and fuzzies are strong in this one.

Makes you wonder why world rugby and Beaumont dislikes them so intensely

Interesting point is that an old Merchistonian & ex Scotland/Lion namely John Jeffrey was initially in the running to replace Bill Beaumont
