I'm 63. I grew up listening to Sarah Vaughn. I was blessed to see Sarah Vaughn in concert and Ella Fitzgerald in concert back in 1989. I was shocked and saddened to learn of Sarah's passing not long after I had been to her concert. When I saw Ella, she was frail, had to be helped out onto the stage, and sang the whole concert while seated. Later, she had a leg amputated due to diabetes and passed a few years after that. Amazing that even in poor health, these ladies were phenomenal. Both ladies' voices were a gift from God to them and to us. RIP. 🧡🧡🙏🙏

I attended the same high school in Newark (years apart) as The Divine One, Miss Sassy, and knew friends/family of hers. Always loved her music, and proud that she was from my hometown, Newark NJ. I Remember the day she passed away, received a call while at work from a friend. I cried. Never knew of her personal dramas and would have been happy to have never known, just loved her, her voice, and the pride she brought to us in Newark. R.I.P. Miss Vaughn.

One critic in Downbeat magazine said she had the talent of having near perfect diction and the ability to slur notes like a drunken sailor. I think that summed it up nicely.

I love listening to jazz while cooking as well and will add Sara Vaughn to my mix. Her story reminds me of Whitney Houston's and Natalie Cole. Her and Whitney were even both from Newark NJ. So many similarities. A comparison video of those singers and their relationships would be great.

These stories of women letting men use and abuse them are soo tiring. Im interested in Sarah's relationship with her father. She left home without his blessing at a very young age and I'm sure that played a major part in some of the things she went through.
