Jonathan..........you're a cool dude with a smooth teaching style...... I started cello 8 or 9 years ago and after a few years I set it aside , and I'm now returning to practice. I think your instructions on RUclips are the best. Thank you.
I have been watching your videos for the past month and finally got a cello for Christmas yesterday. Thanks to you, I was able to tune it, set the cello tapes, learn how to hold the bow, and play a D major scale. You are an incredible teacher, and I thank you tremendously for sharing your knowledge!
Got a cello for Christmas, which is intimidating for this not quite middle aged dog that still thinks he's 20. I've always loved the cello and learning to play is a dream come true. These videos are awesome! After a few hours of your videos... my hands and fingers are sore and I am more in love with the cello than ever. I actually played the first little bit of Fur Elise... thank you. Looking forward to the rest of your videos. I especially liked your invisible cello practice.
Welcome to the journey, T Anc! It will be a full of fascinations and frustrations that will test your resolve wile warming your heart. Glad you find the channel helpful ;-)
Your call of course but I think that EVERY product/accessory you suggest should be linked to with an Amazon Affiliate account. You could tell people up front when you mention it, which you have to. Just saying, you could be making all sorts of extra money to help support this great channel. You deserve it :)
I have been learning cello over 4 years. My teachers were against placing tapes after 1.5 years, so I took them away. But after watching your video I want to set tapes again. Do you think I am too `old` for them?
If your tapes inspire confidence, then keep them. When they hinder, not help you progress, it is time to let them fall off. You will know when the time is right, not your teacher. Everyone of my students have found the right moment, on their own, when the tapes come off. A good teacher will push you to play with more confidence, tapes or no tapes, so when that day arrives and the tapes are more nuisance than need, it will feel right.
Imo they are very helpful, I used them for 4 years when I first started. Very helpful but can be enabling so don’t sit with them too long, you’ll be dependent on them. Don’t be afraid to remove it once you think you have that muscle memory
Thank you a lot for your lessons, how you explain things is really great. I used your app and followed the instructions from this video. But I am not quite sure, that I did everything correctly. Should the distance between 1st and 2nd, 2nd and 3, 3d and 4th tapes be equal or not necessary? I set the tapes using the app, but these distances between tapes turned out to be not equal: between 1st and 2 nd tape the distance the biggest, and between 3d and 4th - the shortest.
It's no longer called precise pitch, it's called cello coach by cello coach now. He updates it a video later on. It actually helps track your progress as well it's pretty awesome
@@CelloCoach I see another comment suggested the app's name has been changed to Cello Coach. Sadly it's only available for older versions of the android phone😢
It appears that some of the tapes are not quite perpendicular to the fingerboard, e.g. the white one. Is this by intent? like it'a a feature of some cellos that, in the example the finger 2 position for the E on the D string is slightly different from the 2 for D on the C string?

What's your opinion on pre-made one piece sticker that has the markings where the tapes would be?

Thank you!
You're welcome! Just remember that tapes are there for reference to shape your hand. I shouldn't remain the entire time you play this instrument.
