    I was beginning to get scared, since I’ve taken a very long pause from my cello, I’ve been watching videos where no one is playing like this!!!! Elbows down, shoulder back! Hands looking like claws on the cello! I was horrified to the point that I had to check to see wtf is happening!!!! Soooo grateful for your video and for the way my teachers guided me against this horrible bad habit from the very start of my cello playing and therefore I became very conscious of this horrible habit! I will be posting this video everywhere I see that floppy friken left arm!!!You’re a such an inspiration!!!! Thank you! ❤️ your videos!

    Going to a live performance feeling the music through your entire body not just your ears is a great experience. Probably completely wrong but I like the C tuning peg basically against my ear or at least really close.

    • @CelloCoach
      @CelloCoach  6 лет назад

      Our bodies - our anatomies - are all different. I play with the C peg pressed against my skull, just behind my left ear. So if you like the feeling (some do not) then continue. Finding your own position that works is most important ;-)

      I love them too, especially the G string. But don't come at me with the A string haha

    Hi Jonathan ! Thanks for sharing all your passion for cello ! My left hand is not anatomically friendly for cello because the space between 3rd and 4th finger is not large enough !...and this is a real problem for intonation...do you have some exercises maybe to do ? 🤗

    • @CelloCoach
      @CelloCoach  2 года назад

      TIP : pick either the 1-2-4 or 1-3-4 to be "in tune" and on their tapes.

    Hey Jonathan, thanks for the tutorial! I'm getting tingling sensations in my left arm in my general hand area, including my thumb, index, and middle fingers, wrist and upper forearm. I'm also getting a sensation of tennis elbow - a slight pain in my left elbow after playing for only 10 minutes or so. I am a beginner. I am trying not to tense up and trying to keep my wrist straight. Do you have any thoughts on this? Thank you!
    Sam

      IMHO, you might feel tendonitis and/or carpal tunnel but I am no doctor. See you physical therapist or doctor for a consultation.

    Hello adorable you...! You're a delight to watch and listen to. So, I am tired to believe the voices in my head or society, that tells me I can't learn the cello at 47, with no prior experience other than singing. I played violin one year as a kid, forgot it all, failed at reading music. But my dream to play the cello is getting stronger with the years and.......life matters more to me now than it has before. I got sick and nothing mattered. I am healthy again and suddenly that dream is coming back. Music is my only true love. I'm so scared of failure when it comes to cello...i don't know why. I'm also scared of my landlord who lives upstairs and could be very annoyed for a very long time with my poor skills. So, I have 3 questions: I am 4 ft 10 inches. What size should I get? Second: What is the very first video I should watch in your content when I unbox my cello and ready to learn from the START because I will assume that I know nothing. And third: Can you tell me something encouraging so I don't let fear stop me? I don't wanna get pro, I just wanna be one with that instrument and learn to the most of my capacity without judging myself too hard ( i am an expert at this, that's why I haven't done anything new since my 20's and that my life is pathetic) Thank you.

      Hello Lovely, and thanks for your kind comments. If you like the content, please consider subscribing.
      1 - Consider a 7/8 cello, known as the "lady's cello" or if you must, a 3/4. One of my Skype students in Australia plays a 3/4 and she loves it.
      2 - Start with these playlists: Basics of Cello, Essential Skills, and Cello Coach Talks. When ready, Level-Up
      3 - Life puts enough obstacles in front of us to bring us down, so let's not let our own minds - our closest ally - limit the limited amount of happiness we have left to experience. These are incredible times, where you can access volumes of info at your fingertips (even a teacher like me via Skype if you so desire), so why on earth would anyone wait to make their dreams come true? Like that classic Disney tune, "a dream is a wish your heart makes". Our mind may be poisoned by doubt but the heart is pure. That's why it's called "The House of God", for your heart will never lie to you. Listen to your heart, not your head, and make that dream come true.

    I've always had my left hand near my eyes in terms of how tall my cello is too my body . . . my teacher has never corrected me.

      We are all anatomically different, so if you can platy like that well and comfortable, then continue. If you try a new position and find the new way less restrictive, then try the new way!
