Oh! Tell your dad I love the tool he made for you! I would love one of those!
Will do 😉 It has come in handy a lot lately. We planted a couple hundred tree saplings with it too the other day!
I have got to get my own elderberry bushes started!
Yes!! They are such a powerful berry. Now is a great time to get cuttings in the ground 😊
Such a wonderful 🎁gift 💝. I prefer to be gifted in editable plants and trees. Hope they grow big and full of berries. Take care, sweetie
Thank you! I completely agree. Plants are the gift that keep on giving! I will have to do an update video on these soon, because they are taking off!
What a wonderful gift!! I’d love to grow my own elderberry!!
It truly was so thoughtful! You know you are a gardener when you get excited about someone buying you sticks haha 😂
How awesome is this?!? Great video! Thank you so much for sharing!
I am so glad you enjoyed it! The elderberry cuttings are doing great so far, they are leafing out nicely already!
Love this idea!! Didn't know you could plant from cuttings
Yes! It is such a great way to get free plants or at a great price! 😊
Love that you found me! Love your last video so starting from the beginning! Always great to find new people in our community!
thank you so much! That is so kind of you to say 😊
Indeed! Yeah for new gardening friends!!
Great timing for us we are ready to propagate some branches ourselves first time thanks for sharing this 🤙🏻
that’s great! You will have to let me know how they turn out 😊😊
I would love to try elderberry growing. Wow lots of views on this video. Thank you for sharing with us.
Thank you! Cuttings are such a great way to get new plants!
Thanks for the great demonstration on using the root stuff(?) and getting them all planted. I hope they flourish.
I am glad you enjoyed the video! I just checked on these elderberries yesterday and they are already starting to form new growth!
Thank you xx my mam used to make elderberry wine when we were kids (we used to have a taste haha) I never thought of planting our own. You made it look easy xxx
What a great childhood memory! I should do an update video soon, because they have grown a lot and definitely don’t look like sticks anymore haha
Hello from zone 4 (nw wisc). I bought wild elderberry cuttings last autumn from twisted tree farm & they're doing well.
That’s awesome! It’s great to have them on your property! We are in zone 7a here. Our elderberry cuttings have leafed out now, I need to do an update video soon 😊
I recently planted Elderberry cuttings in my back garden area, and they're doing great. Such an easy plant to clone and grow, and so healthy! Had some down at the front of my property a few years ago, but the rabbits kept decimating them. 🙄 Live and learn! ☺️
That’s awesome! Elderberries are such a useful berry to have around the property for sure 😊 Are the rabbits leaving the ones in your back garden area alone?
@@bluebirdhomestead Yes the rabbits are definitely excluded from the back garden!
@@OliveCityOasis that’s great!
I had no idea Elderberry cuttings were so easy to grow. Thanks for sharing this.
They are really easy! I am glad 🙂
@@bluebirdhomestead me too because they grow wild on a nearby mountain and I wanted to collect some. I thought I’d have to air-layer them but geez, cuttings are sooo much easier.
@@tucsonurbangardening2701 That’s awesome that they grow wild near you! We have lots of new growth on our already since planting too 😊
@@bluebirdhomestead right?!? I’ve seen the berries every year but thought they had to be poisonous. Then I found out what they were and felt silly.
@@tucsonurbangardening2701 Actually the stems and seed of elderberries are toxic so be careful! You want to make sure you cook your elderberry syrup to a certain temperature 😊
Thanks so much for sharing how to plant these. New friend here.
Yeah for new gardening friends! 😊 I just checked on my cuttings today and they are showing lots of new growth!
@@bluebirdhomestead That is so awesome!
Great video!
thank you!
This is great, thanks for sharing! I have some overgrown elderberry bushes that need a prune, so might just go ahead and try this! By the way, your property is gorgeous!
Pruning = free plants haha! I am glad you found it helpful 😊 If you don’t want to plant them yourself you could even sell your cuttings online 👍 and thank you ;)
I would love to get some elderberry trees growing. I just bought some elderberry immunity shots and they are so good for the immune system. I learn so much from everyone, and I appreciate everything I learn. Thank you so much for sharing.😀
Thank you so much for watching!☺️☺️You should definitely plant some elderberry bushes! You can buy cuttings or even starts sometimes on Facebook market place for a reduced price too. Next time I make a batch of elderberry syrup I will be posting a video with the recipe so stay tuned for that too 😉
Great I didn't know it could be propagated like this. Ive done this with a plant called dog wood. I'll try elder too.
If something can be easily propagated it is always a bonus. :) -Cara
Wow I never knew you could grow a plant from a stick like that! Are you planning on doing an update on these? I would like to see how they are progressing.
I am planning on doing an update on these elderberry bushes soon! Be on the look out for that. I am not sure yet if I am going to make it it's own video or just put an update clip in another video. They are doing great though! It is really amazing how you can propagate plants! It's so much fun! -Cara
@@bluebirdhomestead did you do an update yet on your elderberries? We are planning on propagating a bunch this spring. I’m interested in how yours turned out. How many did well etc.
So glad you found me 💕 you have a new subscriber here 🌸💕🌸
yeah for new gardening friends!! I am so glad you are here :)
@@bluebirdhomestead The pleasure is all mine Cara 🌸💕🌸
@@jasminelouisefarrall You are too kind! Thank you for your support 😀
Hi Cara - just thought I would take a peak at your channel & I love it! You did such a great job with this video - I would never have thought it's your first one. I planted a few different elderberries last year & I'll definitely be trying this technique 'cause I want MORE! And free is one of my favourite words 🙃
Aww thank you so much! What kind words 😊 Free is one of my favorite words too! Propagation is a great way to get extra plants. You can’t have too many right? 😉😜
Wonderful video! I am hoping to aquire some elderberry clippings as well. Hope to see updates on how your elderberries are growing. Idk if you found a video on how to make elderberry syrup, but I know a channel who has one, over at The Homesteading Pastor. Take care.
That’s awesome!! I am so excited for you 😀I follow the homesteading pastor! I will have to watch his process on it ☺️ I have been making syrup for a while now from berries I purchase. I will do an update video soon! They look like bushes now not sticks anymore haha.
Hi! Love your videos! Will be subscribing. Good luck with your Elderberry plants! Twice we tried to grow short sticks in water. They got short roots and leaves, then died when I put them in the pot. Super bummed! Then a friend gifted us two small plants and they are growing like gang busters!
I am thinking of making Elderberry cough drops.
thank you so much for subscribing I truly do appreciate that! So far our elderberry cuttings we planted are showing lots of new growth and leaves thankfully 😊 I am so sorry yours died, but that was super thoughtful of your fiend to gift you more! Elderberry cough drops sound like a great idea. Have you made them before?
The tool your dad made for you is also good in case of a zombie apocalypse lol
oh my haha, hopefully it won't come to that haha
I have 2yr old elderberry plants. recently, 2/3 of leaves are eaten off by something. What should I do? Thank you in advance!
Very informative. Can you also plant from cuttings during the summer? Or do they have to be dormant? Elderberry bushes at the nurseries are so expensive. 💖💖💖
I have only ever tried it during dormancy. If you have access to free cutting though you could always give it a shot! I would just remove the lower leaves so that some of the nodes would be in the soil or water. You could also try to to root them in water. That might be a better option in the summer heat. If you go straight into the ground just be sure to stay on top of the watering since cutting from this time of year would have some leaves already. 😀
Bet you will regret you put them so close. My elderberry tree just got broke off due to a storm. Last two days I have been getting tons of cuttings off it. You could of got two or three cuttings off those long sticks too. Mine was three years old the height was about 12 feet tall maybe taller and the base was huge that’s why I think you planted too close. You won’t be able to get in between the tops of the trees in three or four years. Good luck.
Just thinking yours might be different than mine.
