Agreed, but let's not call it post-metal. It's a dumb fucking label. What do we call this kind of stuff in 30 years? Post-post-post-metal? It's alternative metal, or sludge if you like.
How is calling it Sludge any different? The genre was completely different 10 years ago... Like the difference between this stuff and bands like Mastodon and Baroness is pretty insane. If I am to think of some of the oldest post metal bands like Neurosis it still sounds more similar to Cult of Luna than the average sludge band, man. And this crap about calling everything Alternative Metal is a bigger fucking label than anything else, giant umbrella statement. Sludge is; if anything a secondary classification here.
Loved Julie in Made Out of Babies and Battle of Mice. When I randomly threw on a bunch of Cult of Luna on a streaming app and heard her voice on the Mariner album I couldn't have been happier. Julie and CoL are awesome on their own and combined it is just absolutely amazing.
Oh man I knew that voice was familiar I used to love made out of babies I had it from the Neurot playlist like two thousand two or three and always kept checking to see if they had new material!!!
They have the chemistry of 2 vicious dogs deciding if they'll fight right now or wait another couple of days. Can anyone tell me how long this managed to last for? can't be bothered to check
I can confirm Magnus's viewpoint towards the very end, about not taking shit. Last week at the show in San Diego a big drunk dude was moshing a bit too much. The band kept blasting through it all which was balls-out awesome. But then after the testosterone had mellowed, Magnus looked straight at the dude, pointed at him, and gave him the stink eye. Shut his shit down. #realultimatepower
Let's hope not. These guys and gal need to make more music. COL never seemed interesting, and her solo and band stuff is average, but they have a chemistry that is superior to their other stuff.
I agree, Mariner is the best thing either artist has put out. For what it's worth I think they're being genuine when they say they worked well musically. At 4:40 or so Johannes basically calls Julie an insane person while she nods kind of spitefully, but then his tone and attitude change when he starts to talk about the songs. My guess is they had some falling out on the tour, potentially regarding their ability (or lack thereof) to reproduce their songs live. Point being, I think there's a fair chance they'll collaborate again.
Ugh. I thought Mariner was a step back from Vertikal. It just felt derivative of everything prior to Vertikal. I kind of hope they don't collaborate, at least on the next one. It just wasn't the same. But hey, it took a while for their older albums to grow on me.
Julie is THE vocalist of post metal. A Giant artist

let's just go with metal

Just listen to the sounds and fuck the labels.
You put it so well Friend. She IS the metal voice!!
Giant artists and even better persons. Felt lucky to be there, one of the best moment of my life.
Love voice of Julie, it's very unusual. "Mariner" is great album

Julie is one of my absolute favorite singers.
I am thrilled to see Julie in any fashion as far as a recent clip. But nothing could ever even touch the music she did with Made Out of Babies.
It's great to see her back.
I can't stop looking at her. Beauty and talent. So amazing.
I'm so happy this record came out. Album of the year contender for sure
Mariner is phenomenal, but Battle of Mice's "Bones in the Water" is Julie at her best.
Exactly, I'm sure what happened with Josh Graham made this album even better, it was one of a lifetime masterpiece and will never be top.
Its amazing how she didnt absolutely destroy her vocal cords singing like that in that song… takes true skill for that
Julies eyes (and her sense of humor)
Oh man I knew that voice was familiar I used to love made out of babies I had it from the Neurot playlist like two thousand two or three and always kept checking to see if they had new material!!!
mariner is awesome
I really hope they do another US tour for this thing someday
julie ♥
I love their song CHEVRON, they are badass
Bones in the water brought me here. She is just fantastic.
I'm here because Sean Killian told me to check out this band.
They have the chemistry of 2 vicious dogs deciding if they'll fight right now or wait another couple of days. Can anyone tell me how long this managed to last for? can't be bothered to check
I hope she joins the band!
The body language between these two is tense
:)
Wow! They really look alike, to me atleast
Johannes is repping This Gift Is A Curse with that t-shirt, I urge all and everyone to check them out. Sludge black metal at its best.
Anyone know what band shirt he’s wearing?
This Gift is a Curse. Swedish band. Heavy and filthy, and quite cool to see live ;) You should check first their EP "I, gvilt bearer"
Dude looks pissed the whole time.
Maybe more.. pensive? Heh. He's quite an emotion driven guy i feel and comes across very real, especially in the industry he's in.
2:26
that was really weird lol
Lol
Nicolás Fernández they scratched at the same time? Lol
Someone please tell me what is the music playing in the background, I've been looking for it for days and days.
"Approaching Transition" by... Cult of Luna & Julie Christmas 😉

Есть здесь русские?)

Is it just me or does it seem like they hate each other's guts? They both look furious when they're not talking.

It is you :)
No honnestly, the ambiance during the interview was really smooth and they laught a lot together when the camera was off.
They're just too serious people imo.
