    My 2 cents as a newer pilot: lower the camera angle (it will decrease your speed and you’ll see the ground/horizon better, as well as maintain altitude better), keep moving forward (you can maintain altitude better, see hazards, controls are easier, won’t drift into obstacles). Have fun!!!

  • @zachmachina
    @zachmachina 4 года назад +33

    When you use auto level (angle) mode to help someone new fly, you should lower the camera angle. He was basically just seeing the sky (assuming the fpv camera has the same tilt as your action camera) because the camera angle was too steep. In order to point the camera down, he would've had to have had his pitch held down all the way forward, which is not something a beginner is gonna do or want to do. He would've done better with less angle.
    You seem to be getting along just fine. Lots of learning and you're already in velocidrone. Just takes time in the sim. You'll get it!

    I can tell you two things not to do that really held me back when I first started. Do NOT fly in self stabilized mode ever and don't be afraid to crash. I downloaded Liftoff one night,practiced flying acro and the next day I had my first successful acro flight. After switching to acro and realizing crashing is part of flying,FPV became 100% more fun. I think the reason your getting telemetry warnings is because your running a QX7 without the crossfire mod...this can temporarily be resolved without much consequence by doing the following...In the Taranis, long press the Menu button, then press page till you get to the “Hardware” page.
    On the Hardware page, there will be an option for “Max bauds”. Change the Baudrate from 40000 to 115200. This will slow down the communication between the Taranis and the module, but it’ll fix the issue.

    Fun to watch. 2 tips. Set your fpv camera angle to 30 degrees. It will slow you down and let you see more horizon. I like to fly low proximity as if you were racing. It gets your stick control developed. Set your arm switch the opposite in beta flight. All the pilots I know want to quickly unarm by pulling the switch towards you. It’s much harder the way you have it.

    Hi Ken, Here is a tip for you. If you have a high uptilt on your camera like racers do (45 deg or more), you can make turns like a flying wing, more of a bank and yank style but if you are uptilted 30 deg or less, most of your turning is done with left stick, yaw. You will also find, even at high uptilts that by mixing your yaw and roll axis you will have much smoother turns and less oscillations in your video footage.

    From the looks of it your FPV camera angle is too high. A general rule of thumb I use is for every degree of camera angle is how many MPH you need to fly forward to the horizon in the middle of you screen. Example 30° of up tilt = 30mph of forward flight. I would start you off around 10° until you get comfortable.

    I've been flying FPV for almost 3 years now. I have another channel called DigiLog FPV. I reccomend that since you're a beginner and still learning you should have started with a 4s rig or put a throttle limit on that quad. Yes it is stressful at 1st but once you learn how to fly in Acro mode proficiently you'll be 100% addicted. I find myself buying more gear for FPV than I do for my DSP Aerial Business lol. Also 1 huge tip is to not spend too much time in Angle or Horizon (stab) modes and you should learn Acro mode right off the bat or you'll be fighting your muscle memory when switching from stab modes to Acro mode. Have FUN and fly SAFE!!! If you're ever in Colorado shoot me a message and we'll go fly!

    You have all you really need...the passion to want to fly. Just keep getting more stick time. I started a while back so I pretty much learned the hard way to fly and build. You have so many great mentors on RUclips these days to help you with anything but getting the stick time is up to you. With today's tech I would probably get a good indoor whoop class quad so I can maximize my practice time and have more obstacles and an altitude limit. Whoop flying in your house also will help your throttle control since you have a limited altitude. A 6S 5" can cause some good damage especially if you keep falling out of the sky. You definitely need to troubleshoot that Rx loss or just go Crossfire like everyone else :)
    My flying vastly improved when I had obstacles and goals while flying. The little whoops are great for bouncing off things and still flying like a real acro quad. You can buy a ton of batteries for it and if you get the right whoop you shouldn't really need too many quad spare parts. There are so many great whoops for indoor flying out these days. Have fun!

    Very fun to watch! Glad to see you are getting into FPV. I recommend lowering your fpv camera and go pro to an angle of 10°-20°. If you are struggling with throttle control, I recommend going into betaflight and scale your throttle to 75% this will scale the entire throttle band and give you more control

    I fly both: FPV and a DJI Mavic 2 Pro (before that a Phantom 4 Pro). You will hear as many opinions about how to learn FPV as there are people to ask, but I'll share how I learned. DJI stuff is almost ridiculously easy to fly, but I knew FPV would be a real difficult thing. So, I started out the same way I learned to fly R/C airplanes many years ago: Line of Sight. For me, it's important to learn how the FPV drone responds to inputs and it's a lot easier to learn that flying LOS than it is to leap into the FPV swimming pool. At the same time, I was getting as much time on Velocidrone and other FPV sims to begin to learn that end. Finally, I got comfortable enough controlling the drone that I felt ready to fly FPV exclusively, augmented by still more time in the Simulators. It all comes together in the end, and I'm comfortable in both worlds now. I didn't say skilled or expert, merely comfortable. I still fly my DJI a lot because I do a lot of aerial landscape HDR still photography and an FPV drone can't do that. It's all fun, at the end of the day. The key is to have patience and really use the simulators in addition to LOS familiarization of the drone's reaction to control inputs. Good luck and welcome to FPV.

    Angle/horizon are very helpful for the novice flyer however a couple things are critical.
    Start with a nearly flat look angle.
    Once you get a feel for the craft get off angle/horizon ASAP. you will feel like the craft is always fighting you. Fly ACRO as soon as possible.
    The calibration of the accelerometer must be done if using Angle/Horizon.
    The sticks must be centered minus throttle at rest within the GUI.
    Add a deadband of 2 to keep it perfectly stable and avoid any drifting at hover. The signal will not sit perfectly at 1500. Adding a 2 deadband means nothing will happen from 1498-1502.
    Adding expo can make the throttle far less sensitive in the mid-band. Focus the expo curve on where the craft would hover.
    Your PIDs need a lot of work. You are getting a lot of jitter. I find that a craft like the ImmersionRC Vortex is the best way to start. All the tuning is done and you can focus on flying. Once you know how a craft should handle you can move to tuning your own.

      @@Silor I strongly disagree. Acro mode is essentially impossible to fly if you don't have hours of practice in a simulator. I absolutely would not give any quad in acro mode for someone to fly if they've never flown acro before. It'd crash in about 2 seconds. But horizon mode at least stabilises it for you a little. Acro mode you need the experience to be able to stabilise it yourself.

    • @kylewatson577
      @kylewatson577 4 года назад +1

      Angle mode is better for safety that mode shuts down all flip functions. I am not a great pilot by any means but I usually fly los in angle with a 200 deg rate and in fpv acro 700 deg rate. I have taught a couple of friends and we do los flying first then switch to acro in the goggles. If I ever want to do flips and rolls in los I can switch to my acro with the higher rate.

    • @Vousie
      @Vousie 4 года назад

      @@SMITHII_ Look, I can fly fine in *any* self-leveled mode. They're easy and I'd probably give a self-leveled drone for a friend to fly without too much worries. But I also know how much time I've spent practising acro mode in a simulator and how difficult it still is for me to keep any semblance of control over it - sure, flying around in massive arcs is easy enough, but try getting it through a few race gates and you realise how little control you really have over it. Thus I would not give an acro mode drone to a friend to fly *at all*, unless they can actually fly acro in a simulator.

    In case no one has called this out before. Your DJI drone is doing all that same things as this fpv drone is. It's just doing it differently.
    For example, the left stick. When you throttle up your mavic it goes up. When you throttle up the fpv drone, it accelerates in the direction the props are facing.
    This is because the mavic is using a combination of a barometer, gyro, accelerometer and gps to convert your throttle inputs into "drone goes up", "drone goes down". In reality, all you're doing is making that motors spin faster or slower you rise or drop.
    Moving forward or backward: when you fly your fpv drone, you plan it forward with the right stick, then accelerate with the left stick. When you move forward with your mavic, you hold the right stick forward and the drone limits how far forward it rolls, allowing the props to pull that drone forward slowly. If you also throttle up, you'll go faster while also climbing.

Someone else suggested looking into different rates, getting a 4s battery, both are good tips. I'd say play in the Sim until you feel like a Sim God, then get a bunch of real world stick time. If you wanna spend some more money I'd suggest a toothpick drone. They're super small and light, so crashing doesn't hurt them or your wallet as much, and you can fly a little more aggressively

    As a photographer who pilots BOTH. GPS Consumer/Prosumer Drones (DJI) are easier because you can take your time and if you panic you can LITERALLY let go of the controls and hand them over to a better pilot and you'll be fine. A hobby grade quad is MUCH faster and does NOT hover as independently as a GPS Consumer/Prosumer Drone. I think I have figured out what to call this.... CONTROLLED FALLING. Once you get that in your mind its a bit easier to explain to others HOW a race quad flys.

    If u are running betaflight u might want to lower your rates to like 500-600deg/s and add around 0.15expo that will smoother behaviour of your kwad and plus it will give you more control resolution what means you will be able to make smoother more accurate moves. As mentioned before never go of the sticks that will allow you to back into your flight line much smoother just try to fully control the movements.
    I got to say your kwad behavior is very stiff and harsh and working on ypur rates will change the whole game and put it on the next level.
    For an example try
    Rc rate roll and pitch 1.67
    Yaw 1.29
    Super rate roll 0.64
    Pitch 0.57
    Yaw 0.40
    Rc expo roll and pitch 0.20
    Yaw 0.30
    Try these and u will see a big difference. Btw nice video :)

    Use rate mode only. Also your rates look way high or you're being a bit rough with the sticks. Personally I turn down rc rate down to 65 and increase super rate to 80. Then set feed forward transition to 30. This makes the quad feel softer toward the center on the sticks but still gives you the ability to make fast movements further out in stick travel.

    For those considering getting into this, you can comfortable with the controls using a simulator you run on your PC and a radio. It helps to understand what you want to get out of the experience so that you don't waste money on the journey. i.e. start with the end game in mind.
    Which do you prefer camera drone or racing/acrobatic drone?

    My first quadcopter, 6 years ago, I would tell people I was "going out to practice crashing." It was a continuous cycle of "it's going to high" followed by "it's coming down to fast" and would eventually just crash it into the ground so it didn't fly away. After about a year of that I started getting the hang of it and got my first GPS camera drone. I got all the crashing out of my system that first year and have never crashed a drone since. I think everyone should be required to learn to fly an FPV quadcopter before they are allowed to buy a camera drone.
