A bit late, but if you mean to ask if a road needs to be closed to build one, then not always. If there is a sufficient space in the middle of the road (to put up the pillars and raise the tracks), work can sometimes just go ahead. If the road needs widening to accommodate the monorail pillars or frames need to be erected either side of the road to support a monorail in the middle, that would mean major work.

Amazing looking city, cannot get over just how incredible of a job you've done. Been a fan for a couple weeks now and you've been a huge inspiration to me as I've gotten back into Cities: Skylines! I'm a bit of a realist/perfectionist and I never found any guides that I actually liked listening to before now; funnily enough, I only begrudgingly watched my first of your videos which was the guide to realistic zoning, and then I think the next one I watched was on your road hierarchy. I got hooked on what it seems like people agree your best qualities are: how you blend your explanations with real life and in-game justifications, your pure skill, and I think you have a great sense of humor too! I've only watched maybe the first 7 or 8 Verde Beach episodes all the way through (now this one, too) but I have plans to get all the way caught up. Thank you for everything you're doing, it's an absolute pleasure to watch City Planner play :)

    • @Papershields001
      @Papershields001 3 года назад +2

@@nicolasblume1046 well he was specifically targeting tourists entering the city. That isn’t necessarily unparalleled in the real world. For instance, the last time I was in Tokyo I took a Narita express train directly from the airport to Tokyo’s main train terminal downtown. That service was clearly targeted at making travel to the distant airport easier by skipping several stations along the way. Now what city planner plays did was different, but it’s not unheard of to have a dedicated tourist oriented system that is only lightly integrated into the local transit network. Remember his monorail does service the airport, a Harbor and the main Train junction downtown.
Not everyone arriving into Verde beach has Verde beach as their final destination as well, it’s an express link between the international airport and trains throughout the region. It also offers convenient stops for tourists and relieves the already heavily used local trams and busses. I’m not sure it’s such a bad idea.

Another tip for spanning large roads is that if you draw at ground level until it turns red and once it turns red you raise the elevation, it'll turn blue and the pillar will be as close as possible. It's helpful for spanning 6 lane roads especially. So, start unconnected and move the would-be first node right until it turns red. Raise the elevation, til it's blue and place the starting node. Drag across until the same thing happens and your 2 pillars will be as close to the road as possible. Then connect the bridge on both ends to wherever it's going.

First, nice to see the burning trees in the city tour. Wouldn't be Verde Beach without a fire somewhere. The local arsonist was evidently very excited by the addition of a monorail. Second, the far end of the monorail on the opposite side of the city from the airport is a stub that could easily be set aside for future expansion of the monorail line across the river whenever you decide to expand the city to the opposite side of the river. The line could use the islands in the river as stepping stones to cross it. Now, you just need to expand the city in that direction... Great video has always. See you in the next one.

For a while i thought am i watching verde beach? then i saw the fire at the end and was like yep this is verde beach. Otherwise monorails seem to offer strong mobility like transit highways with high capacity over long distances. It seems more logical than overstretched metro lines that send workers from the suburbs to the inner cities and downtown office spaces.

1:17 I feel like there needs to be a song about a monorail at this point, something broadway-esque that gets all of Verde Beach hyped up in support of it.

Quick side note: though often true, maglevs aren't always monorails, or vice versa. Most monorails aren't maglevs, and some maglevs (ie. SCMaglev) aren't monorails.

Miami's monorail has very sudden, steep elevation changes and actually goes VERY high to cross the river, so it wouldn't be crazy to have gone directly over those train tracks at the airport. And the stops are like two blocks apart lol

The monorail looks great! It was put in place surprisingly smoothly, considering the terrain.
I'm mildly disappointed that you didn't make the line colour purple and name it "The Purple People Mover", though...

The long distances between monorail stations [though I miss a stop closer to the central station] might be a method to create a higher priority of the monorail - even above the metro - in the multi-tier transit system. Using four-platform and bypass- metro stations to introduce local and express lines could have been even more effective and would have avoided cannibalizing.
But I'm really looking forward to upcoming transit episodes to see a well connected and well prioritized system surfacing.
I don't miss the demolished part of the tram system at all - it will have a comeback as a medium priority mode of transport giving great access to the high priority network.
PS: If you expand Kellerhouse Line to the airport and connect the branches served by only one line with a new service you can have a "Lewis Hamilton Line" ... :-)

Once u finish all the transit oriented episodes, I’d really like to see u do a few episodes where u revisit old areas, the original Verde Beach. I’d imagine as the city starts investing so much capital into expansions, highway overhauls, better transit, bringing in more tourists, that places like Old Town, Founders Park, Lewis Lumber company are going to look for ways to renovate and reinvigorate. I live in Orlando, and places like Winter Park, Winter Garden, Kissimmee, Celebration go through all kinds of changes as the theme parks expand to make things more appealing for tourists or new home buyers.

Love the series! The monorail angle at 19:42 looks a bit wonky though and won't retain as much speed as a round curve (correct me if i'm wrong). I suggest just using the round curve tool... Keep the episodes coming, you make long boring papers so much easier to write :)

Coming from Seattle the monorail is a must for tourism since its construction for the ‘62 World’s Fair. There is even a wonderful asset in the Workshop for the original Alweg monorail.

Really great video, one small note is that the monorail station with tracks creates a traffic node on each side I find they tend to interrupt traffic flow a bit and work better when theyre right against an intersection rather than a few cells off and connected by a short piece of rebuilt road

I only wish you hadn’t jumped off the first person monorail right before we hit the downtown area with all the unique buildings. Love your work! Would really like a series in the same vein as 5b1c but done all by yourself where you start with several/many spread out tiny communities all over the map and slowly integrate them. Give is a better idea how smaller rural areas become urban meccas.
