Yes, always continue a metro line. That's how it works in RL. A metro usually runs from one end of the city to the other end. And than there are hubs where you can change to another metro line. Sometimes, like in Tokyo, London or Paris there are metro lines running in a circle on the outskirts of the inner city. So it basically looks like a spiderweb. I used the metro of so many cities and the system is basically always the same.
28:58 Well, that is a difficult decision to use the same platform of Metro Plaza as a through-station for the Crest Loop Line and as a terminus for Transportea Heights Line. Terminating trains are briefly using tracks the wrong way so these tracks should be avoided by through lines. The "Dortmund Stadtbahn" network (-> wikipedia) has a similar loop. Lines U45 and U46 both go through Stadtgarten station (equivalent to your Metro Plaza in this example) and have a shared terminus on the loop (they actually have two, at the trade fair exhibition centre and at the stadium) where trains switch their line number and continue their journey. So this would mean choosing one of the busier stations along the loop and making it the terminus of a single University line as well as an extended Transportea line ... It's great you cleaned up the tram network - if wish you would have waited until the core of the metro system is done. The trams now have a different task - filling in the gaps between the metro stations, giving access to the higher capacity network for those who are not covered by it.
I giggle & grin every time Biffa fusses about missing the Move It Mod while he works on this vanilla map. It's very nearly his trademark mod of use and he feels it every time something could be moved a smidge - but this is vanilla. This map is looking beautiful!
The devs really need to fix their upgrade with the Metro. It is a real hassle to lay new under ground metro and have it be at the correct depth and there's the problem with the metro lines sinking over time.
Your tram tunnel is not working, the trams hit a stop sign when coming out of it, entering the industry. And because of the huge amount of traffic (trucks) the tram never goes. I'd suggest changing it to a traffic light, to give the tram a change. Also to add to the point to point vs loop discussion. I'd add a loop around all the end station of your arms of the not tearantuala station.
I believe you should place recycling centers around the city (where appropriate), as this one would not cause that big area of pollution and can work as "retailer" instead of "wholesaler" (ie. waste processing facility).
New Metro Hub option. The Tram runs out on the main road (Parker Street). Why not move the only the Tram to run and stop next to the Metro Hub, then cut back out onto Parker Street. Remember, there is a bus line that still needs to stop there, so it can be just Tram road only.
The organisation of your metro has inspired me. Mine is a cat cradle-y mess that im going to now go back and fix. which hopefully can lessen my other issues with traffic and congestion.
Alongside your metro hub on Brook Street it would be nice to remove those trees and zone a small row of little commercial kiosks, with maybe a taxi rank, it feels like you'd have those sorts of things right outside a hub like that. (The approach to Manchester Piccadilly train station from the city centre side may have influenced me there...) Also just to say in Manchester, the Metrolink **is** the tram network so calling tram/Metro by either name sounds totally normal to me :D
27:24 You know, if you had just continued the line to Transportea Hub and Hillside Heights. It would then have been single back and forth line from ICETEA to Hillside Heights, instead of two looped lines that goes mostly on top of each other, and a third line from Hillside Heights to Metro Plaza. Now its just creating some traffic issues, because you had to create that extra connection over there. Of course separated lines, one going from ICETEA to Plaza, one to make that curve, and third one to Hillside Heights, would work too if you wanted to get more control over the amount of trains in each section, but I'd personally keep them as one. Other than that moment of horror, I enjoyed this. I'm absolutely loving this winter city.
Like the videos, but I'd love to see you hop back into your old bread & butter videos of fixing traffic for other players' cities. Those are nice and calming to see the traffic resolved! They're what got me watching your channel. Take care, Biffa!
Hey Biffa!! Quick recommendation.....for New Tealand....I really didn't like the name of the airport to be meteapolitan airport....and you are also aware of how much you struggle to say that name.....so I came up with a better name! why not name that: TEATHROW airport? Sounds good??😆😁
Biffa, your new metro lines are excellent! If only the spider hub came with a roof for the winter version. No problem though, North American subways in northern climes are frequently surface and elevated lines, so no problem atoll! 😉 Since one loop reminds me of a "handle" and it's other end a "spout", I would like this transit hub be called the Teapot Station. I noticed that several streets are named "Crowley Avenue" now. 🤯 There should be only one in a city this small. Please manage your street nomenclature! 🙂
So if I remember correctly the waste processing complex will not pick up trash from building except other trash collection buildings like the waste transfer building. So it looks like you can process it all but not pick it up all.
There should be a glass dome on that subway hub so that the people can stay warm. I wonder if any complaints about the "open air" station were made on Chirper. 😉
ah yes the train line with the stadium and industry as the only stops. the people on that train are off to either the big game or the gulag! I hope you hold your word on eventually moving those waste processing facilities
Might be good to loop the line that goes through trasportea park with the university, into a super loop with the other side. Simpler, less lines and nice and symmetrical
There's another good way to do Metro. Get the multiplatform in the middle of the map in an area where you want a lot of foot traffic...near parks or residential or whatever. Imagine that is the bullseye of a dart board. It doesn't need to be bang in the middle but close. Then, imagine splitting your map into four areas, they don't have to be geographically even. Put 2 Metro stations in each, maybe 3 but no more than 3 in each corner. Then, route them so that one line passes and repasses the central hub. So the line leaves one platform, passes through one quarter of the map and back into the hub but using a different platform Then go into the second quarter, through them both and back into the hub but use a third platform. Then go into the third quarter and back to the hub...using a fourth platform. Then go to the final quarter and this time, connect to the same platform you used for the first quarter. The effect is within two stations, all metro users can be at the main hub and they can platform switch to go to whichever area they want...but without going through potentially 8 stations. It's super efficient and pretty much negates car traffic leaving you with just post office vans, refuge and cargo truck. Then, I give a designated feed and return route but all under ground for the main truck industry area. That just leaves post office and refuse. Then I put all my incinerators in an isolated area but again give them designated arterial roads to and from different areas, again under ground. That's how to smash the traffic. Eden valley is a great map for this.
as there’s now a metro line for industry, you can now delete the tram line for industry because it’s really clogged up in the traffic, which is inefficient
Even if it was a temporary thing the other side of the motorway it would of still been better than where the trash is now, you already have the road for it setup
I think it'll be a good idea to connect the Emerson square with Silver needle timber. There is a bridge over the river near the tunnel that can also be used for transit traffic. Speaking about trams - you removed the connection between the line to Rosewood park and the industry. it's not necessary for game mechanics but it's nice from realism viewpoint to leave it as it was (i.e. in case of an accident on the line). The rest of the tram network is very nice - if there is an accident on the line - then the route can be dynamically changed. As a result trams are always going

I'll add to the Octeapus calls. I don't quite understand why you continued the loop to just one end when you could have simply had those two ends be one giant back&forth line.
Maybe then station could be called tenteacle station or octeapus station? Seem a little basic compared to some names other viewers come up with but I thought I was in the comments early enough to try 🤣
The metro main hub could be called "Ice (Tea?) Crystal Station" 16:13 You could make the 2nd part of that line a lot straighter if you wanted... If you make a easy right turn just as you leave the middle station just to aim the tracks a little below the end station: That way by the time you need to turn into the station you'll already be far enough down to make it a easy left turn into the station. Instead of that sharp S combination.
In ice fishing, the name of the hole you make is a "Suckerhole". with all the different lines, it kind of reminded me of cracked ice, so thought the new giant station should be named "Suckerhole Station"
It's been around a bit, but why not call the opera house the Igloo. As for a name for the metro plaza, what about glacier park? The geological feature in the mountains which identifies an area formerly covered by a glacier is a park, and it typically is a depression in the landscape. With regards to the Crest Loop/Transportea Heights Lines, my inclination might have been to make it one long point to point line, which stops at the metro plaza 4x.
You used the IT buildings to block the view of the waste processing complex, but now those IT buildings have a lovely view of...the waste processing complex. ^-^
Biffs that crest-Uni loop is going to cause you serious train traffic issues as you city gets busier, especially as you have 2 lines using one platform
Biffa after you said your stadium and roads area looked like a man with his arms up, I'm looking at the metro plaza and the lines going up and out in different directions with that in mind. It looks like one of those inflatable tube guys that flop around in front of a business to advertise, so I think you should call it the Inflatea Tube Plaza

Normaly, one would have the loops underground and the point to point above ground, but since you already have your loops above ground, to make the underground point to point, is the logical conclusion :)
Hey biffa have you seen the video where they show how to place metro stations the orientation you want with a road first then delete it and place original road as close as possible to connect with path/sidewalk of original road
I was thinking for the New Tealand to call that big station Black Widow Tea Station. But i never did submit that. So now I am for the big hub train station.
Sorry if I missed when you went over it, but is there any reason why you never change the transport vehicle models? Like using articulated or double decker buses for example.
A bit late to the party. You could continue the metro loop by connecting the line that goes tho the university and the line through hill side heights. ( this could be extended south of the highway when needed.) You would end up then with one loop and upto 6 point to point lines.

Wanted to share a trap in the game that you fall into at times. When demand for a zone rises I only build new zones when the population starts to go down. If you wait just watch land value. You'll see it start to rise due to supply and demand
The new metro hub looks like an octopus with the loop. So I vote for Octeapus Station
I was gonna suggest the same thing. And if anyone says it has 10 lines coming out of it, not 8, well those are the octeapus's ten-tea-cles.

Similar idea: make a park that wraps around neighborhoods
